chipboard letters question

I bought a box of chipboard letters a while ago for my Disney scrapbook. However they are the plain cardboard looking kind. Is it okay to paint these with regular craft paint? Any other suggestions on decorating them would be great also!

Paint away! I've painted, inked, glittered and covered with paper (put glue on the letter, add paper and use craft knife to cut away)
