Just now training for 10k. I would so love to participate in the inaugural season of the C&D relay. Here's my question... I should be able to get my mileage up with proper training. If I wasn't able to hold up my end, would my relay partner still get their medal? I couldn't bear someone else working hard and not getting their "bling"

Both team members would have to complete their leg(in required time limit) to get medals.

Thanks, Ultra. I had a feeling that's how it went. I don't know if I'm ready for a half yet. May have to pass on the opportunity. Not fair to my partner.

You have plenty of time to get ready for the Half. You have over 4 months!

Trust quality and not quantity of miles you do!

Good luck :)

Just a FYI, at last year's W&D Relay, we were told that even if the first runner did not finish the first leg the second runner would be sent off and upon completion she/he would receive their medal.

Yeah, really...how could runner 1 finish and then NOT get a medal? Regardless of what runner 2 did?

I was considering a similar question. It says there is a race finish experience for both legs, wouldn't that include the other person getting their medal? I wouldn't think they could take it away if the first person gets to the transfer point in time, but you go too slow...there's always the option of the Donald for you, though. I am considering it as well, but I really like the medal for the Chip and Dale, lol.

I think if you complete your portion within the time limit the medal will be awarded. If your partner is a bit faster you might have ask them to start off the first leg of the event and maybe you would have some extra minutes to complete the second half.

You do have time to train and improve your pace. Most programs are just starting for this event. You do not have to run many of us will walk the event.

They relay is a team event. They don't offer an individual Half for each person so if the first person finsihed they get a medal and the second failed than that is ok. Or vice versa. The concept is 2 people both finishing. Doesn't seem hard to figure out :confused3

Otherwise just do the Half the day before :rolleyes1

I was going to suggest the same thing as Tiger Lily. Send your partner off on the first leg. If your partner can finish in, say, 2 1/2 hours, that gives you well over 4 1/2 hours to finish your half, over a 20:00 min/mile pace. Even if you have to walk most of the course, that should give you plenty of time, and a unique experience that most walkers don't get at Disney races. If your partner can get in an earlier corral, even better.

That being said, I'm sure your partner would still get their medal. I know that they are going to give runner #1 their medal at the halfway point as soon as they pass off to runner #2 and enter the finishing chute. And I imagine if runner #1 has to quit, they would have to let runner #2 go at some point, because they each paid their money to run the race.
