I think that alot of people have this tradition. A friend of mine has worked at a Chinese restaurant for years. She said that NYE is by far their busiest night of the year for both eat-in and take-out. She took in almost $800 in tips from NYE last year!!!
We just had our Chinese food a little while ago. Seems only right, Chinese food and New Year's eve, now if we get the urge to snack, I have Cowboy Caviar and crackers, and our traditional pepperoni and cheese. What better thing on a snowy new year's eve.
EVERYONE gets Chinese food around these parts... so much so that we can't because we tried 2 yrs ago and ended up waiting 4 hours in the restaurant for our take-out order!!!! You have to place your order by noon for a 7pm "ish" pick-up time in any chinese restaurant around here... we're doing pizza tonight!
I had never heard of such a thing until we spent several NYE's in Boston with DH's family. Apparently EVERYONE does it up there. And I do mean everyone! In their suburb you can't even place your order on NYE -- it has to be placed the day before or you are SOL!
I was about to say the same thing. You cannot really get CF in Ma on NYE. The lines are so long and the food has been made up earlier in the day to keep up with the demand. My husband got it yesterday and we too are having pizza and coconut shrimp from Trader Joe's
