China Adventure questions

I’m doing my first ever ABD going to China with a group of 6 others. We (I) are stressing about the need to do laundry. I saw a post or 2 about the expense of the hotel laundry services and wondered if a local laundry service (in Beijing) would be feasible. We stay 3 nights in the Beijing Rosewood and I’m wondering if anyone has tried to send their laundry out to a local laundry?
I’m hoping a recent traveler will be able to help with this question.

I am also curious about this! We are doing this ABD in 2026 and as a family of 4 plus the limited luggage we can bring I am going to need to do a lot of laundry. :)

I'm sorry I can't help you with the laundry question. I do know that on some of the ABDs, people have reported that the Adventure Guides were able to help out with arranging to send laundry out, but you really won't be able to know/count on that until you're there and can ask them.

I *DO* want to say that I'm so glad to hear that they are back in the Rosewood in Beijing now (although I guess, now that I look, that it's only for the one October 13, 2024 Adults Only departure). Granted, my experience is from 2017, so pre-Covid, and anything might have changed since then, but when we were there it was a *fabulous*, absolutely gorgeous hotel. Honestly, the rooms there were so fabulous we all agreed that all you'd need to do is add a kitchenette to the room, and you could live in it as an apartment. Make SURE that you check out the Rosewood's Country Kitchen restaurant for one of your OYO dinners. It was AMAZING! Everyone who went raved about it. (And some people even went twice!) It's mostly noodle dishes, and they were just magnificent.

ENJOY! It's a really spectacular trip!

I am one who went twice to the country kitchen, and I couldn't agree more! The Rosewood is an amazing hotel, and was second (a very close second) to the Tokyo Peninsula (Japan trip), which is my favorite hotel of all time. I loved the Shanghai Peninsula as well, but there was something special about the Rosewood. Can't help on the laundry. We took lots of dry-fit type of shirts (capelene by Patagonia are my favorite), which can be reworn--even with the high temps and humidity we hit in Hong Kong. I don't think I've ever been that hot.

What time of year did you go? We will be there Oct 9

Oh! I forgot to say, be sure and make a reservation (or two!) for the Country Kitchen when you arrive at the Rosewood, as it did get really busy there. Ask the Adventure Guides for timing for reservations.

I'm SO sad to see that they no longer go to the Tokyo Peninsula on the Japan ABD!! It's definitely in my all-time top 3 hotels (closely tied with the Beijing Rosewood and the Park Hyatt in Auckland.)

We were there in early June. October should be much more civilized :)
Except maybe for Hong Kong. I hear it's ALWAYS hot & humid there!

I did laundry on the ABD China trip. When we were at the Peninsula in Shanghai I had a laundry service pickup the laundry from the concierge in the morning and it was in our room that night. I had done research in advance and made arrangements with the company; it was very easy and much less expensive than using the hotel’s service.
