Chill Spa - 12 year old?

Ok I know the age thing has been a big topic for the clubs but I'm going to ask anyway. I just help a friend book their first Disney Dreams Cruise in 3 weeks. They are not really Disney people and don't know anything about Disney nor the spa. She will be taking her 12 year old daughter and have been talking about going to the spa knowing nothing about the age rules. Before I call her and tell her and let her know Chill Spa is for 13-17 I thought I would ask the dangerous question, will they allow a 12 year old in the Chill Spa?

I just don't want them to expect something that is not available to her 12 year old.

I have 2 DS and aren't spa people so please be be kind.

Please do not confuse this post as it is NOT a flame...but I have never understood why people think that if a rule says "13-17 years old" (or similar) that it means anything but that... I'm not a t-totaler, rule-following, "I'm going to call you out" fanatic, but there would be so many less misunderstandings if people just interpreted rules as THE RULES, you know?

I agree but since Disney did not follow their own guideline for so long it may be worth asking.

There wouldn't be an issue if people didn't question age limits, etc... I do "get" wanting to push ahead or extend an age limit...I almost barfed when we had to pay full airfare for our DD when she had just had her birthday less than a week before ...or when my DD couldn't participate in an excursion since she wasn't the stated age I'll admit that it can be frustrating if bending the rules was (until recently) accepted and now Disney is holding firm, but I still feel if people didn't constantly try to push the limits of stated rules that there would be A LOT fewer grumpier guests...

Hi. I spent 9 nights on the Dream last summer and the Chill Spa must not have been too busy because they were always trying to get me to bring my 11yo in for a treatment. While I am not adverse to splurging a bit on her, she had had a mani pedi before the trip so I said no thanks. I think it depends on demand. It never hurts to ask and I would tell your friends to tell this to their daughter. 12 is old enough to understand what maybe really means.

They have only recently switched to a hard line stance on age groups. Last summer it may have been okay. Now it is not.

Yes, but that hard stance is for the kids CLUBS... This is the Spa, which is NOT a club. The Spa is there to generate $$$. I would be willing to bet donuts to dollars that if they have too many openings, they very well may open up services to 12yo's. I don't know how young they would go. But the spa is there to generate income. The clubs are there as a source of entertainment. So I wouldn't completely bank on them shutting out a 12yo if business is slow. I think the previous poster who suggested the 'maybe' factor has the right idea.

thanks all for your replies. She did tell her daughter that she was not old enough and while disappointed it in no way affected their excitment of going on their first Disney Cruise. It just would have been an added bonus but all is well.

Just started wondering what the price differences would be between getting a mani/pedi (just as example) at home vs. on the cruise? Not trying to be challenging in any way here, I just never thought about how much the DCL would charge for their spa treatments!

Won't they do that manicure/pedicure stuff in the salon? Kids are allowed in the salon, right? I'd bet they have to have a parent with them though.

Ok --- just was on the Dream over the holidays with my daughter and her best friend (15 year olds) --- I hardly call a small room off a hallway leading to the health club and dressing room a "chill spa" -- each of them had a manicure the very next morning we were onboard, which was ok and they said it was very awkward in the room (which I had not seen yet) ....a day or so later I was in the salon and asked where the "chill spa" was --- they were two young girls (not twelve) -- maybe 9 yo max and they were sitting on these low cushion stools and getting a manicure or pedicure ??? it was really weird there was one CM in there and it was really a small room ... I had scheduled a massage for my daughter and her friend (facials were gone on the first day - even though I went the minute we got on the boat to the spa) - I asked about the massages (which my girls wanted to do b/c they never did anything like that) -- and the CM pointed to two doors and said there are individual rooms which looked like a pig shoot. I wanted to cancel but they had a cancellation and they got to have the "couples massage" in the adult area of the spa....I didn't love the spa on the Dream --- liked it alot better on the Magic and Wonder --- the only time I spa is on the boat so I don't think it is going to be a problem for a 12 year old to go to the chill spa (which I would avoid) --- and yes, I have brought my daughter with me to the adult spa for a mother/ daughter special.

Dream in December: My 10 year old daughter woke up with a terrible crick in her neck. I went to the spa...made her stand at the sign before the adult pool area to wait for me...and asked if they could please give me a warm towel or something to help relax the muscle while she worked out the crick. She was so miserable.

They said that they could not give me a warm towel or anything (I was hoping for a portable heating pad like those rice socks you can microwave.). However, they would be happy to schedule her for an $89 massage for kids the next day. I reiterated that she was only 10 and they said no problem, we'll do the massage but we're booked until tomorrow and kept trying to set the appointment.

We just went back to the room and used a hand towel with the water as hot as we could get it from the sink. Not what we were trying for, but after a motrin and some relaxation, she was much better by the next morning.

It was the only "Bizzaro World" experience we had on the Dream.

All that to say...they MAY offer your 12 year old a spa service, but I would not make it part of my regular plans.
