Chile Mine Rescue, anyone else watching and sending pixie dust?

40 minutes to get the capsule down, then 20 minutes to bring it back up (empty), then another rescuer will go down. There's going to be quite a wait for the first rescued miner to come up.

There's 2 people going down before they start to bring up the miners right? Dh and I were a little confused on that point. If it is 2 and figuring the hour estimation is correct per round trip that makes between 12-1am before any of the miners actually make it all the way up.

I thought I heard they changed the order. The original plan was to send all rescuers down first. Then they changed it to sending the first rescuer down, the first miner up, and then another rescuer down.

Unless they changed the order again!

Can someone explain to me why it is so hot underground where they are? I thought that usually it is cooler below the surface? When we have visited caverns they are always very comfortable. Of course I know these guys are way further down than the caverns.

Ugh. My stomach just turned when they locked the paramedic into the capsule. What an incredibly brave thing to do!

And here we go!!!!!!

The last I heard was two rescuers down, but not sure what happens after that! I think they need to really check them out quite a bit before bringing anyone back up.

I can't imagine being that first rescuer going down, basically testing the whole process.

How warm is it? Maybe it's just relative to how cool it's gotten above, esp at night? :confused3

Oh, they just said it's 90 degrees down there. I don't know.

Thats what they just said they are doing....

The region where the mine is located has a lot of magmatic activity (i.e., lots of volcanoes), resulting in a steep geothermal gradient (it gets hotter quickly the deeper you go into the earth).

Lots of really nice hot springs in the area if you ever get a chance to visit!

They just said only 4 minutes until he reaches the bottom. That was fast! My heart has been beating so quickly!

Okay, now they are saying the man that was sent down was an 'expert on mines'. He will come right back up, and THEN they will send down the first medic.

They just said it again...two rescuers down before sending anyone up. I think. ;)

They said 90 and 80% humidity.

Thank you. That makes sense.

I am so nervous. I should go to bed but I agree that I think I need to see the first one come up, assuming no major delays. But I think I will go and watch from bed.

Our news said that the first guy down will stay there, and the capsule will come up empty, before sending the 2nd rescuer down.

Well, that puts some things in life in perspective, doesn't it. DH and I got stranded in Orlando in May for an extra night, while our luggage (with all our clothes) headed home on the plane, after a very sweaty day in the parks. We were gross, and boy did we whine to each other. :(

The rescuer is in the mine! Oh, this is just awesome!
