This article is from my local paper. A guy from North Brunswick NJ who sings children's songs under the name "Mr. Ray" is suing Disney/Pixar for $10 million, for infringing on his name for the "Mr. Ray" character in Finding Nemo.

North Brunswick's Ray Yodlowsky, known to youngsters as the children's musician Mr. Ray, has filed a $10 million lawsuit citing trademark infringement in federal court in New York against Walt Disney Co. and Pixar Animation Studios.

See the link for more....

Yeah, I think 10 mil is a fair estimate for the amount of lost income Nemo is causing.

***recently performed at the Milltown Fourth of July celebration.***

That gig alone had to be worth half a mil.

That is the most idiotic lawsuit I've heard about in a long time.
The teacher (male teachers usually referred to as "Mr.") is a manta ray. I would think Mr. Ray would be a logical conclusion to the name of that fish teacher.

Does this person really think he holds the rights to the name Mr. Ray? Give me a break.... someone trying to get rich quick. I've certainly never heard of this singer.

I guess it might be different if it was someone who is REALLY making a lot of money off their name and stands to lose a lot by the name used another way or by someone else. A name that MANY people know and think of only one person when they hear it- such as Cher, etc. (okay my mind is a blank beyond Cher right now for some reason- but I'm sure given some time and 3 little ones not so hyper as they are right now I could think of a lot more examples. LOL) But come on... Ray? And Mr. is a common term for most men, and teachers. Give me a break...

Can you say frivolous lawsuit boys and girls ? ;)

I'd love to hear Scoops take on this...being the only law teacher I know :)

BTW How do you all feel about Spike Lee suing Viacom (CBS) over the proposed renaming of the TNN chanel to Spike TV?

Spike Lee's lawsuit is what inspired Mr. Ray's suit.

BTW I'm watching this case and waiting for a character, ANY character to be named Mr. Steve and I'm in business!

And Spike Lee ended up settling out of court because he knew he had no chance in court. Here comes the Spike TV!

Wow, that is right up there with the lawsuit filed in behave of the overweight teens who eat all of their meals at McDonalds! Just because "Mr. Ray's" name happens to appear in a movie, doesn't mean that anyone stole his identity or the right to his name. That is just stupidity. Anything to make a buck, I guess:rolleyes:
