Children's Red Medical Records Books

I wondered if anyone knew what happens if these are lost or destroyed? I cannot find them anywhere and I have to take DS for the 2nd part of his MMR on Monday and I have no record book to go with him. DH and I have literally turned the house upside down looking for them to no avail, I can only think that they have been chucked out by mistake.

I wouldn't be overly concerned if I didn't think that he may have had this jab and that the records haven't been updated correctly (we have just recently switched GP) and I am worried about the consequences if he has already had it once. The Nurse seems to think that he hasn't had it according to their records, but I'm not so sure.

Any ideas?

From my experience the red book doesn't seem all that important to the practice nurse as she has all the info on the computer. I'm not sure what it's like where you are, but I know that my GP can access details of my hospital appointments etc from their computer system, so if it's the same the records seem pretty accurate, as the doctor/nurse have to detail every appointment they have, so they'll update your record at that time.

I lost my oldest DD's red book in a house move, I was really panicking about it, but when I told my practice nurse she wasn't worried at all, and posted us out a new one. I was really upset as all her weight and development details are lost, but I was assured that all the important stuff is on their electronic record.

I've even forgot to take the red book to an appointment and the nurse just says don't worry, they go by the computer these days anyway.

I would say that it s higly unlikely to be a mistae as immunisations are dealt with by a governing body! So the gps have to make a record of the child recieving it and they also have to send it to the medical board (I cant remember what the place is called !)

Query it with nurse just so they look properly at the computer records !
