I was very disappointed to read some of the selections they have for childrens menu at many of the restaurants/counter service places. Not sure my 9 year old is going to want to eat PBJ, chicken nuggets and macaroni & cheese for lunch and dinner every day. I'm thinking about bumping him up to an adult price for our stay so he can have more of a variety.......or am I crazy and should just share my meal with him instead? :confused3

Are there better selections for the childrens menu's than what I'm seeing?

I know how you feel about the childrens menus, most of the table service menus are fine for my two, but the counter service ones stink. If they staet seperating adult and child credits then i will buy an extra CS meal out of pocket for the kids to share and save their credits for use at breakfast or something.

I have heard that WDW restaurants are quite good at providing something else though if there is nothing your child likes.

I've felt the same way reading the children's menus, at least for the CS. I have a 3.5 year old who on some days eats like a bird and other days can eat me under the table. I'm hoping he'll be in one of his eat like a bird phases and then I'll just order one CS meal for us both from the adult menu for us to share for two of our meals during the day. If that doesn't work, I might even see if there's something I like on the children's menu and eat that and let him him an adult meal.

The other tough thing is that he has 3 older brothers (2 teenagers) and a 10 year old brother. I thought of them possibly sharing their food, but the teenagers are out of the question since they eat everything off their plate and start eyeing mine if I don't finish before them. I might have a better chance with the 10 year old sharing, but he finally gets to order off the adult menu and now has to share it, so I sense there will be a lot of grief at the table........ :rotfl: I guess I'll just have him share on planning where were going to eat and let him know what is on the menu before hand.

By upgrading him to an adult you probably would have to pay the increase for the ticket too. You might be looking at not only $25 more a day for DDP but $40 more for the ticket. If he's not happy with the selections you might want to just buy him something else and use the credit for breakfast as someone else suggested.

Put Concourse Steakhouse on your list of ADRs they offer steaks on the kids meals. Plus from the sound of it some Buffets might be in your favor too. Another idea is to let the youngest order one of the appetizers for himself. If there are 5 "adults according to Disney" (am I the only one that hates having my 12DD referred to as an adult). Thats going to be 5 appetizers per TS meal. Seems like more than enough food.

LOL I keep thinking of things to add. Another good place to share at is ESPNa at BW. Their Appys are Buffalo wings, Nachos (very good) and Dingers(breaded chicken tenderloins, very good better than the wings IMHO) Probably 3 credits would be enough for 5-6 people to share. Would just have to pay for beverages. Not a problem for me since my adult cocktail is not incuded on DDP. One of the appys was my meal so I just had the waitress bring it with the regular entrees. :sunny:

Last Fall we ran into the same problem with DD9. We found that at CS restaurants, they were not as strict when ordering. I would just order 2 adults meal when DD did not want the child's selection. The only CS restaurant that made us order the child meal was the mexican CS in Epcott. Of course the TS restaurants were no problem, we had made AR's according to what they offered for children. Mostly, we went to buffets so DD ate what we did. She loved Ohana's :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the your ideas.......and glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks that the children's menu could use a little work!

If I'm remembering correctly, I think that Spoodles, Rose and Crown, Teppanyaki, Sci Fi and 50's Prime Time (and I'm sure others) all have steaks or grilled chicken on the kids menus, and at buffets they can always eat from the adult side. There are probably other places too, so at least if they are doing the typical stuff for cs they can at least eat something different at ts.

We recently returned and used the dining plan with my 9 year old son. I too, had the same concerns you stated before we left. However, it all worked out really, really well. The table service dinners allowed him to have grilled shrimp, nice steaks, california rolls (Wolfgang puck), grilled chicken breasts, and a few others. There was never an issue with any of the table service resturants we selected. As for the counter service, there was never anything he wanted from the childrens menu. We solved this problem by sharing an "adult" meal with him or being honest with the CM at the register and she would allow him to get something else. They never really seemed to care about the "type" of credits that were stated on our card. Not trying to open the can of worms about adult vs. child credit, but we were up front about our situation and it was never a problem.

My son ate quite well during the trip and still raves about some of the meals he enjoyed. I am sure if you look at the menus before making your ADR's and talk to your cashier at counter service, you should be just fine.
