This past week, my son and I were talking about books. He's dyslexic and not much of a reader but has read a couple of books that he really likes. One was about a panther and a couple of boys, maybe brothers. I think that it may have taken place in the winter but not for sure. He read it back in elementary school. He's 22 years old now but still remembers it as being one of his favorite books and wouldn't mind having it just for the sentimental value.

So, I thought I would ask my DIS friends if they might know what the name of the book might be?

Or where I could go to find out?

I'm probably going to check with the local library even though it was the school library that he got it from. I'd contact the school librarian but the one that was there when he was has retired. I may still try the current one though.

Possibly, he doesn't remember the title.

Was that a guess or a real book? He was possibly in the 4th or 5th grade when he read it over and over and over.........

OP, when I was young I remember reading a book about a boy pursuing a panther and it was one of my favorite books. I have Googled like crazy and I can't find it! I thought it had the the word "paw" or "foot" in the title (the panther had an injured paw and left an unusual print).

Of course, I am 2x the age of your DS so it may not be the same book. :lmao:

Thanks guys! I took Magic Mom's suggested title and found a book called Danger On Panther Peak by Bill Wallace on Barnes and Noble. When my son got home (he's heading back to school today :sad1:) and showed him the synopsis:

Stay off Panther Peak.

When Tom and his family move to his grandfather's ranch, Grandpa warns Tom to stay away from Panther Peak, even though there hasn't been a panther in the area for decades. But when Tom sees a large, black creature in the mountains near their ranch, and something starts killing off their livestock, he has to wonder — could Grandpa's tales about panthers be true?

One winter morning Tom sees a dark shape move silently through the fog, spooking the animals in the barn. Later that day Tom and his grandfather are home alone when a blizzard hits and Grandpa is injured in an accident. With the phone lines dead, Tom must take his horse and ride for help — by himself — through the panther's territory. Can he reach safety in time to save his grandfather before the panther strikes again?

he said "That's the book!".

Guess what's going to be in his Christmas stocking next year along with The Hatchet?
