I can't seem to find Children't bonine anywhere. Anyone have any idea.

From what I have been told Bonine is not recommened for children under 12. The only med that is allowed is children's dramamine which will make them drowsy. I am leaving in two days for the Wonder. I am going to try giving them the dramamine the night before we cruise and then giving them the meds at night on the cruise it it is needed. Hope that helps.

You need to order it directly from the pharmacy.

I was told Benadryl works for younger children.

Bonine is 12+. You will not be able to find or order a children's version. I personally don't recommend drama nine for patients because the drowsiness is so extreme. I agree with above comment -- especially is symptoms are not too bad, benadryl (or generic, since brand is recalled) works pretty well. It does cause drowsiness, but not quite the coma that Dramamine does! If symptoms are controlled, maybe try dropping dose after a day or two. Good luck!

I would get some SeaBands and try those first. No side effects. Our DD felt sick the first night of our cruise. I put on the SeaBands (which, frankly, I thought were a crock) and 20 minutes later that child was eating and feeling fine! Kept them on til bedtime and the next day she said she felt queasy again. Put the trusty bands back on and she had no problems. After that day, she took them off and didn't need them again...

There is a Bonine made for kids 6 years and older. I bought some at either Walgreens or CVS. I can't remember which. My dd does not like the taste of the kids Bonine (Berry Blast chewable) so we use the Seabands which we bought one set at Walgreens and another at Target.

This is kind of strange, but I found the Children's Bonine at The Christmas Tree Shoppe. I don't know if they have those by you. It's sort of discount everything for the home store (not just for Christmas stuff). They have a huge section of travel size stuff and they sold both Children's Bonine and the adult version.

I decided not to give it to my kids unless I thought they needed it. They were fine the whole cruise, even with really rough weather on some nights. The last night though, my DD got really sick so we gave her one and she was better quickly, though not sure if that was the work of the Bonine or just that she herself was just done being sick. DS was not sick at all, but we were going to use Benadryl for him if needed since he was only 3 at the time and we had already use Benadryl previously for his allergies.

Unfortunately, bonine for kids is NOT meclizine like the "original formula" and carries side effects similar to Dramamine. This is a bid of a marketing gimmick, but they are not equivalent. Sea bands are worth a try - some do great, others don't seem to respond.

There is a product called Bonine for Kids (for children 6 years), with the active ingredient Cyclizine HCl 25 mg: http://www.bonine.com/bonine_kids.php

The active ingredient in original Bonine (for adults and children 12 years of age and over) is Meclizine hydrochloride 25 mg: http://www.bonine.com/bonine.php

Both Bonine products have the advertising claim, "All day non-drowsy motion sickness relief" -- which is really odd considering that both include the following warnings:
  • drowsiness may occur
  • alcohol, sedatives and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness
  • be careful when driving a motor vehicle or operating machinery.

Meclizine hydrochloride makes me drowsy.

DRAMAMINE is a bit more honest. DRAMAMINE Less Drowsy Formula uses exactly the same active ingredient (Meclizine hydrochloride 25 mg) but does not claim to be "non-drowsy."

Our DD (5) takes Dram all the time for car trips and it doesn't make her tired at all.

I bought Bonine for Children here

I also could not find it anywhere local.

I ran it by our Pediatrician before our trip for my 4 & 6 year old and she okay'd it. I think for the 4 year old I cut it in half and the 6 year old took it whole. They took it once in the A.M and once in the P.M. Other than the taste, it worked well for them and there was no issues with sea sickness.

I get sea sick pretty bad. I take the Dramamine 24 hrs. less drowsy before bed and it worked great for me.
