Trip Report – Day 7 – July 31, 2005

Cast:
Me 31
DH 35
DS 2
DD 1
My parents (I’ll refer to as M&D for Mom and Dad)
My grandmother (MM for MomMom – that’s what my kids call her)
My aunt (AK for Aunt Karen)
My in-laws (ILS)

The titles for this installment are “Today I got to ride Soarin’ twice!!!” and “I Met Two DISers at ‘Ohana!!!”

I started the day at Epcot with DH, DS, DD and AK. We high tailed it straight to The Land and got FastPasses for Soarin’. J While we waited for our time to roll around (we had about an hour) we went on “Living With the Land.” There was no wait for this, and I really enjoyed this boat ride. It was a lot better than I had remembered it. It was very interesting and informative. It was a nice way to begin the day. After the ride, we grabbed a quick breakfast at Seasons. DD and I shared a yogurt, plus I had a croissant, DH shared a blueberry muffin with DS and AK had a croissant and coffee. A word about the muffin – it was WAY better than Main Street Bakery’s, and I thought theirs was tough to beat! I know I said it already, but I really like what they’ve done with Seasons. We ate there twice on this trip and it was very good both times!

So it was now Soarin’ time! AK rode first while DH and I stayed with the kids. Because we couldn’t bring the stroller inside, we both needed to stay with them. DH and I did get a special pass for the child swap thing. This pass is good for up to 3 people, so we saved it to use later. It did take AK about 20 minutes to get through the FP queue and get back to us. Then I rode solo while AK waited with DH and the kids. By the time I returned from my trip on Soarin’, my parents and grandmother had made it to Epcot. They rode Spaceship Earth and then met us by the exit of Soarin’.

So since we had that special pass we had gotten for the child swap, we took my mom on Soarin’. So me, DH and my mom got back into the FP line with no problems and I got to ride again! J Yeah, maybe we cheated the system a little, but basically they gave us the pass to do it with.

Soarin’ was awesome! I had been on it at Disney’s California Adventure in 2001 and it was even better than I remembered. It is a must-do attraction, but you really have to get there early to get a FP. The regular queue is unbelievably long. I bet it’s almost ½ a mile! Really!

After Soarin’ we headed to WS. This time we started by Mexico. We stopped and got some slushie drinks. They have these kiosks that sell these all around WS. The mocha one is so yummy! I had about 3 of these on this trip and can’t wait to have another in October.

So we sat with our slushies for a bit while my dad took some pictures. We noticed the sky getting cloudy, so we made our way to the Mexico pavilion. I took DD in her stroller inside. I figured if it were a problem a CM would let me know. Well no one said anything and I am so glad I did this. While we were inside the pavilion, it rained something fierce. See? We had great timing in terms of avoiding the rain on this trip! Everyone rode El Rio del Tiempo. DS liked it because it reminded him of It’s a Small World. DD and I hung out by the little chochkies and I gave her a tambourine to play and tried a sombrero on her.

DS found a penny press machine and we added another penny to his collection (which we started on this trip on Day 4. I know I never mentioned it, but that’s because I was getting all the pennies up to this point. He really started getting into it himself in Mexico). There was also this electronic postcard machine that you could send to someone. So DS took our pictures and sent them to my BIL and SIL and niece. I also sent one to DH at his work so that he’d have a cute souvenir upon his return to the daily grind.

When the rain stopped (about 20 minutes) we headed back out to WS and stopped in China, Italy and Morocco. In China they have an exhibit on Hong Kong Disneyland and we looked around there for a while. Someday DH and I are going to do a “Disney Around the World” trip and visit all the Disney parks in the world. Of course we’ll have to win the lottery or wait until we retire to do this, but it’s on our list!

We got some cute pictures of DS in these countries. I’m going to do a page in the scrapbook called “Chase Around the World” and include the pictures. They’re so cute!

It was reaching 2.30pm at this time, so my mom and grandmom went ahead back to the resort. We were meeting my mom’s brother and SIL for dinner at ‘Ohana and my grandmother wanted to rest and change before dinner. So we stayed in WS a little longer. We stopped in Morocco for a quick snack of hummus and pita and a little taste of baklava. All I can say is, delish! I’m putting Tangierine Café on my must-do list for our next trip.

On our way out of Epcot, we walked by Innoventions West and DS made a bee-line for those computers! DH had to run after him and literally scoop him up. DS was cracking up but also screaming to let him go so he could play the Haunted Mansion game! It was so funny!

We hopped the monorail with the computer game junkie in tow and made it back to the Polynesian with enough time for a quick shower before dinner. Did I mention just how darn hot it is at Epcot in the middle of the day?

DH, DS, DD and I meet up with everyone on the second floor of the GCH at about 5.05pm and they are waiting to seat us. We’re brought around to the left side of the restaurant to two tables. One is right near the window and has an amazing view of the castle and the Grand Floridian, two of my favorite things in all of WDW! As we are getting settled, I notice a young woman having dinner alone and I ask her “Do you do solo trips often?” We spoke briefly and she mentioned she was in town to see a concert and that she was going to Jellyrolls later that night. Little did I know whom she REALLY was and who she was REALLY there to see! ;)

So our cousin, Joe, was very nice and brought out our drinks in short order. Then the lazy susan arrived with my favorite things – WONTONS! Attention Disney big wigs: why did you have to take these away? Many guests will be so sad about this. Please bring back the wontons!!!

Now I have to mention that my DH and DS were dressed alike that evening. They both had on Mickey Tiki shirts that I ordered from Disney Direct especially for our dinner at ‘Ohana. (Yes I theme my family’s clothes to the places we’re going). DD had on a hawaiin print dress that I got at Gymboree and I had a Mickey and Minnie hawaiin themed shirt on.

Now mind you DS has not taken a nap at all today and is showing signs of over-tiredness. He played his gameboy for a little while then got very cranky, so my DH picked him up and that was all it took for DS to fall asleep. It was such a cute sight that my friend from earlier suggested we take a picture. She offered to take the picture for me since she was sitting at the perfect angle. When I handed her my camera I realized her shirt said the DIS on it. I had to keep myself calm here. This was the first time I had ever met a DISer face to face! I asked her if she was a DISer and she told me she was Tlinden16. I totally recognized her “name” and knew she had Scotty’s picture in her siggy, especially when she told me she was a moderator. (So it was Scotty you came to WDW to see all along, right Karen? ;)). She then tells me that ANOTHER DISer is at the table on the other side of mine. Mackie’s Mommy (sorry if that’s not spelled right)!!! What are the chances of three DISers being placed at tables right next to one another at the same time on the same night?! Pretty slim, but it was so cool! Like our own spontaneous little DIS meet. Both Karen and Ginnie took pictures of the three of us and I think it’s floating around on the community board somewhere.

Hi Karen! Hi Ginnie! It was great meeting you both at ‘Ohana!!!

I was talking about our little DIS meet for the next few days. I just couldn’t get over the coincidence!

After dinner we got the kids all settle in for the evening then DH and I went to Downtown Disney. Our only purpose going there was to replace my Disney Dream Rewards card from my Disney Visa. Again the wait for the bus was a short one and we thought we’d be at Downtown in no time. But it was like we boarded the Twilight Zone Bus of Terror! All I can think of was that the driver was new and was not familiar with the lay of the land. But it took over 40 minutes to get from the Polynesian to DTD. Other people on the bus were commenting on the length of trip as well. We actually drove through OKW to get to DTD, which I thought was really unusual.
So we’re there, but it was already 9.45pm and the stores all close at 11pm, so we had to try and get some stuff done. We went to the Art of Disney store and the store with all the scrapping supplies first. We lingered in there for a while before stopping in Goofy’s Candy Kitchen. I did the make your own treat thing. I got the pretzels. I had them dipped in milk chocolate then coated with Reese’s peanut butter cups. It was good, but a little much. Next time I’m doing pretzels in dark chocolate with a white chocolate drizzle.

We then went into Once Upon a Toy. Again DH and I debated about getting the monorail play set. I think we’re going to order it through WDW merchandise for the holidays. My DS loves trains and this would make a great addition to his train sets in the basement.

We then realized we were getting short on time, so we went and got my Dreams Rewards card replaced, then we went into World of Disney. We always get lost in this store, and this time was no exception. We scheduled a meeting place and caught up with each other there when the store closed.

We didn’t get back to the Polynesian until a little past midnight. I could tell my mom was annoyed, but I tried to just say to myself that she was only tired. I mean after all, she DID volunteer to watch the kids while we went out. She volunteered to do this before we ever left for the trip. But maybe she didn’t really mean it? More on that on Day 8!

We literally fell into bed with exhaustion. I’m not quite the girl I used to be. Commando style park hopping is NOT my thing anymore! We got great nights sleep, which, again, was much needed!

:Pinkbounc Another great day. I love your pictures. I can't show my DS your son's Buzz T-Shirt as all I will here is 'Mummy I want one of those' :rotfl:
Look forward to reading the next instalment

I chat with TLinden-Karen in the chat room. She is also a moderator for the chat room when they are discussing Resorts. She seems really nice-I'd love to meet her. I wish I could find your picture on the CB.

Thanks for posting-I hope you finish your report.

Another fun day! I'm glad I got to be part of it. The picture of Chase and your DH is adorable :)

OhMari, thanks for your kind comments. Hopefully our paths will cross someday :)
