Children on scooters....

To the OP, I would not go there expecting to be able to have your three kids ride on the scooter with you. I would make alternate plans in case your are told "no".

On your own personally owned ECV, I would not worry about it.
I saw tons of people on every trip with kids riding on PARK RENTED ONE and the CMs including members of MANAGEMENT were doing absolutely nothing about it!!!! The straw that broke the camel's back for me was the woman whizzing through the pouring rain with an INFANT on her lap that looked like she was going to slide off any second!! I went and asked a member of mgt if the policy had changed for the rental ECVs. They did go and talk to that lady. But in general, they don't do anything. I see it all the time.

The rental contract for park rental ECVs and all the off-site companies I am aware of forbid passengers. Most also specify it can't be operated by anyone under 18 (Randy's will sometimes make exceptions for older teens).

Disney can stop people from doing something that is causing a dangerous situation for themselves or others. It would not matter where the ECV ís from.
I think though it has become so prevalent that little can be done about it. I have seen CMs stop someone from having their child ride on both park rental and other ECVs; the people would often stop just long enough for the CM to get out of sight.

ECV accidents would normally be covered by the owner's homeowner's insurance. Since the owner's manuals warn against having passengers, it's possible the insurance could refuse to cover an accident with a passenger.

I was told by a CM at OKW in Bell Services in April that it was still forbidden, but front line CMs had been told you contact Security and let them handle it.
First of all, so that there would be a report and second because guests had increasingly been getting nasty when told their kids could not ride.
In the case at OKW, we saw a woman (probably a Grandma) getting on the buses and using an ECV in the parks. At the resort though, 3 preteen girls we had seen with her would take turns riding it at high speed - usually 2 at a time, but we saw them several times with all 3.
The Bell Services CM saw them almost run into me, which was what started the conversation. He said Security had already talked to them before.

Situations with children on scooters are so dangerous, and make me very nervous. I just wish Disney would either enforce 'rules' they make, or don't have them at all - just hate them being 'wishy-washy' - not fair to anyone, and could be a terrible mishap just waiting to happen. :worried:

I agree. I don't agree with all of Disney's rules (this one I absolutely do!), but at least be consistent so people know what to expect.

In this situation, especially since we're talking about a whole herd of kids on this EVC, I'd absolutely not plan on it being okay.

And to be blunt, if anyone with a child riding on their lap using an EVC ends up bumping, running over, and clipping any member of my family they'll be in for a rough day. I'm not putting up with that. And to seriously say that the government can't stop someone from being a parent because they're disabled because they've made a by law against multiple EVC riders is laughable. It's obvious from some posts on the board that sometimes people need to be saved from themselves.

We've never personally had any problems with anyone on EVC's on any of our trips, but the horror stories and the amount of people doing ridiculously crazy stunts with their vehicles have increased dramatically over the past month it feels like :faint:

And, I think this is a good point to close this thread.
