CHILDREN OF THE 80S...help me remember this purse!

Mine must've been something else, because it wasn't rounded, like those Bermuda bags. We had to send away for the nameplate, and it had sticky on the back to adhere to the spot on the handle for it. All the girls here had them.

:confused3 Must've been a Kentucky thing, I guess.

As for Tretorns, they weren't exactly made for wide feet -- I always had "blow outs" on the side, which would drive my mom nuts. A month or two after wearing them, and I'd have a hole in the side of them.

We also had Eastlands in late-middle to early high school with the shoestrings all curlied up (I never knew how to do that). You wore them with TWO pairs of socks in different colors layered over-top of one another with your tight-rolled jeans and t-shirts with t-shirt clips on them. HOT! I always had pants that were too long on me because I was petite and my tight-rolls were HUGE.

If I 'm thinking of the same purse we called them Papagallo purses. But I think that's because the store we bought them at was "Papagallo's".

That's what we called them too.

I don't remember those purses with the wooden handles at all. :confused3

I did have the barretts with ribbons, twisty beaded necklaces, Tretorns (three different colors of them!) and a few Liz Claiborne purses.

What about friendship pins? We used to put beads on safety pins and pin them to our shoelaces. :teeth:

I loved those bags! I loved being able to change the covers. I also had so many of those ribbon barrettes, I used to love making them. Yes, I'm a dweeb.

Let's see....I was in high school from 79-83 and did not have any of those things. I was not a prep.

I had bell bottoms and Dr. Scholl's. Heck...I don't remember what purse I had.:lmao: Oh wait....I know! I had the huge drawstring bag so we could sneak beer into the movies.:rotfl:

Wow I can't believe the craze these things caused! During the 80's my Dad and step-mom owned a "boutique" store that carried these, they also did monogramming. I swear to you I had every color bag for this purse with my initials on it imaginable, for advertising of course. There were also many different style handles. My favorite was a dark molded plastic that snapped together to open and close. At the time I could have cared less because I was "forced" to use/wear all of these things (including those braided ribbon barretts). If I only knew I was so stylish!

Well speak of the devil....

Yesterday I was just talking to my mom about those bags, and she said she would get my old one out of the cedar chest. Mine was pink. Plaid on one side, solid on the other. I loooooved it!!

I called it my "clack, clack" pocketbook because of the sound the handles made. :goodvibes

I remember those purses, except I don't remember the initial part.
I also remember spending hours making those ribbon barrettes with the long tails. Anyone else do that?

OMG, I still have my purse. I just couldn't bear to get rid of it. I'd love it if they'd come back into style!!

As for the ribbon barrettes, I made so many. I had forgotten about those

Julia (who was in HS '76-'80)

The other day, ex comes by to do work around the house and spend time with DD, he had a green neon shirt on like I remember from the 80's and I told him the 80's called and wanted it's shirt back. I remember girls dressing up like Madonna, then the flourescent colors and L.A. Gear shoes. I loved the 80's. 85 mustang GT with t tops alot of guys had those or the mazda rx7. I am having flashbacks. What is funny is that the guy I am seeing I met in the 80's, so the 80's were very very good to me.

I didn't have a purse like that, my friends did. Once a week I felt compelled to wear something black, even had a black and white bathroom, not gothic, just odd. :rotfl2:

Flashback to Flashdance!

Did anyone else cut up their sweatshirts? I did  My mom used to get so mad when one side would fall off my shoulder, revealing, GASP, more shoulder!

I was sooo skinny as a teenager, I probably looked like a popsicle stick with a fluffy, cut up sweatshirt just barely hangin' on :rotfl:

I graduated in '87 and I don't remember those bags but I remember these horrible bags we had. They were kind of envelope shaped and they had raised polka dots on them. All one color, mine was light gray with raised gray spots. I think they were made of plastic :rotfl: They were awful. Anyone remember? Maybe it was just a Long Island thing :rotfl2:
