Hello,

Can anyone tell me what to expect to receive with a childrens meal with Virgin. Cullen has an allergy to eggs (not so much cooked in stuff but things like mayo), they bring him out in hives and he gets quite distressed and chickpeas and lentils which make him swell up, get hives etc. Obviously I would imagine that the chances of getting chickpeas and lentils in his meal is pretty slim but mayo normally gets spread on heaps of stuff.

I have looked on the meals on line and there is no selection for allergy meals, If there is a high chance he can eat nothing I will come well prepared but would rather not have to cart him meals in my carry on if I can avoid it.

Thanks Kirsten

We got macaroni on way out with veg i think. Also a fruit shoot, a frube, ginger bread man and raisins and apple slices i think. We were all sleeping on way back so don't know what it was then. It is only really the main course that differs on flights i think everything else is pretty standard on any virgin flight from uk

I would call the airline direct and speak to them.I am sure they will try and accomodate. It is very difficult with food on flights .The last person that sat behind me had a severe peanut allergy and even the smell of them could cause a reaction. As I work in AE it is not worth the risk with anything especially food. You have to do whats best for you and whether you trust these people to provided a meal for your son.I know it is a long flight to go without a hot meal. The last time we flew the kiddies meal was pasta shapes with mince bolognaise. They also got a chocci bar bag of sweets, yoghart a pudding and a drink.I know I was jealous of my daughters meal.:rotfl: Hope you manage to sort it out.

Were you on my flight home on 22nd sept we had someone with severe peanut allergy and we were all asked not to take anything with peanuts out of our bags

i would call the airline as well andspeack to special needs and they will be able to get a special meal done

Thanks Guys for the advice, I will give them a ring in the morning and see what we can sort out.

I would definately call them - last time we flew Virgin the sandwiches you get later on for your snack were cheese & onion HOWVER, it was more like a coleslaw type thing with cheese & onion in Mayo and there was no choice given - kids & adults all got the same so I would definately phone them & point it out.

That is definately the kind of thing I was worried about. Although on a positive note if he gets a reaction his meds make him sleep ;) I will ring them today when I get a moments peace.

Well I rang Virgin Special Assistance for all the good it did me, basically told me I should pack my own lunch.

So I will stick with the kids meal and have a couple of sandwichs that I know he can eat packed away as well just in case.

Thanks for everyones help.

I would suggest taking your own sandwiches as well. In july we were short of 2 kiddies meals going to WDW so on the way back we checked again at DTD and were still 1 kiddie meal short when we got on the plane.

On the last flight I was on last year the kids meal at the cold meal time was a jam sandwich rather than the chicken one they were offering everyone else.

Oh and just a note (not that for a second I think you would but....) if you do order the kids meal please don't change your mind and insist on the child having an adults meal as this happened to me on the last flight I took and I subsequently got no food as they wouldn't give me the kids meal! It wouldn't have been so bad if the family weren't sat in front of me at the time and the meal was actually snatched off my tray as the stewardess was passing it to me. I ended up eating an apple all flight.

This is terrible, how come they can supply first class with basically what ever they want but can't make sure they have enough meals for everyone in economy, I understand not always getting your first choice but no meal that is terrible.

I think speaking from past experience, I'd say take your own pack up!, my eldest DD had a special meal last year due to her allergies to egg and tree nuts, and she was less than impressed :snooty: , but then on our return trip they didn't have a meal for her, she was on their inventory but no meal :confused3 , she eventually ended up with a baked potato with chesse (her choice), which she then promptly threw up.....:rolleyes1

The opposite happened to us last year, we phoned and booked children's meals for two children going out and two children going home. Going out both children got their meal with no problem. Coming back both ended up with adults meals as the flight attendants just automatically gave children's meals to those children in front whether they had been booked or not.

sorry i cant help you with your food question, but i just wanted to say that you are the first person i have heard of with a son called cullen.

my son cullen will be 15 next month

he was named after his grandads surname, how about yours?

Hi, finally another one.......

He was suppose to be called James Henry, then he was born and he looked nothing like a James so we were stuck, we were looking through the baby name book and came across it.

NOBODY ever says it right, I am a New Zealander so it may be my accent but even when I spell it they still say it wrong. It is easier in New Zealand as we have a famous rugby player with Cullen as his last name.

I love it, obviously or I wouldn't have named him that. Glad there is another one out there.

I didn't understand it either. I complained when I got back and got some free miles but I still feel that this was unfair.
