Was there ever a place you would vacation as a kid?

We, as a family, used to travel to the South West coast of England to a little fishing village called Salcombe, with beautiful waters, an estuary, a vibrant fishing community and an unspoiled landscape. There was a small appointment block where we would stay at the same time every year with 11 other families and it was the most fantastic time of my childhood :)

To paraphrase a famous person... There is nothing quite so much fun as just messing about in a boat :teeth:

Seven Springs - It was a ski resort in Pennsylvania, but we went in summer, the off season, when it was just a place to relax. My dad had been on a convention for work and fell in love with it, so he took the whole family back several times.

Every summer in the middle of July we drove to Florida for 2 weeks. We first started going to Pompano Beach, always stayed at the same place. When I got to grade school age my parents changed to Siesta Key instead. Always the same place. When they made the switch to the gulf coast, we would stop for a day at MK on the way down or we would take a day to drive up to MK.

The only place I ever went on vacation as a kid was to my grandparent's house in Michigan City, IN and my great aunt's cabin on the edge of the iron range in northern MN.

We did a lot of camping trips, tent camping not RV. One year we started in Albuquerque and drove west to southern Cal. up the coast and back through Nevada and back to Albuquerque. It was a month long trip. Mama, Daddy, 3 of my brothers and me (2 brothers didn't go, don't remember why). We had one huge tent with two "rooms" and my two oldest brother both used little pup tents. Such an epic trip. Back then you could camp anywhere, didn't have to be a park so we camped in the dessert, on the beach, and in some parks. Living in New Mexico there were tons of places we could go camping, Daddy worked for the state highway so he also had access to places that the public couldn't go to. Before we moved to NM, we would just take long weekend camping trips. I don't think I stayed in a hotel until I was a teenager and most of my brother's had moved out. We would just do day trips and explore whatever state we lived in.

No, unfortunately my parents never went anywhere or did anything on vacations. My first vacation was my honeymoon to WDW when I was 19.

Gatlinburg was a repeat destination for us. My mom want's to go back sometime later this summer as a bit of a nostalgia trip, but I think it's probably changed a lot.

I spent all of my childhood summers in Wildwood, New Jersey. My grandparents lived down there, and we'd stay with them. My Mom worked for the summer as a housekeeper at a motel with my grandmother and aunt-although in those days they were called 'chambermaids.' The motel was called the Gold Crest, and us kids (me, my sister, and two cousins) were allowed to use the pool anytime we wanted by the owners, so long as we didn't let on that we weren't guests of the motel. Good times!

It was all camping for vacations, and we never left Missouri so...yeah, the only real vacation we took was to Silver Dollar City in Branson. Other than that my first vacation was my honeymoon to Orlando. My brand new husband thought we'd never go back. He was mistaken :rotfl2:

We went to the Rocky Mountains a few years before WDW opened, which I don’t really remember, other than seeing the old photos. Once WDW opened, it was two weeks in Florida, with a Disney stop on the way to the beach, and if we were really good, we might get another stop at Disney on the way home.

Couple of Summers it was driving from Virginia to go camping in either North or South Carolina (I can't recall), South of the Border, and of course WDW. WDW was the highlight, not sure if you're familiar with the place.

Every single year growing up we spent a week in Daytona Beach and a week in Mississippi, driving from Philadelphia. Every single year.

Imagine my surprise to find out you can’t drive on all beaches.

Panama City Beach a few times when we lived in Georgia is all that comes to mind. My mother preferred to travel to new places even though we did go to New Orleans many times when I was an adult. We also visited Amsterdam often but that was basically our other home.

We went to France till me and my brother were about 10-11 years old. Because our main priority was a pool so we could swim.
When we got older we went to the UK, Scotland England, Wales. My parents love the UK and by then we were old enough to appreciate history and small villages more and do the stuff my parents were interested in.

My childhood vacations in Canada were extremely memorable and fun. I remember there were always lots of people around our house, especially when my aunt and uncle used to come to visit us from America. I used to sneak out of my room and visit them, but it was a tough task as my parents would always scold me for doing this. I used to do this in spite of several warnings by my parents. These vacations were really memorable and fun for me.

We went to Ocean City, MD every summer until I was almost out of high school. Williamsburg, VA was also a repeat destination but not as frequent.
