Child Swap Question

I am one who would take it to guest services while DW and DD moved on through our touring plan. My issue isn't that it should or shouldn't be allowed, it's that the policy should be clearly stated (it is on the website) and the decisions of CMs align with that policy. I bet I walk out of guest services with an anytime fastpass, but more importantly, if everyone does this when arbitrary enforcement affects them, I'd bet the CMs would get educated.

Done this - as mentioned above and I agree in principle but in theory the CM's even the leads have no idea what is printed on the website only what they are trained to do. Good luck but - I doubt you will be getting anytime fast passes.....

You left off the most important part of the quote here - where the parents take turns riding while the other stays with the 7yo!
Done this for years.....
That was edited in after I quoted. ;)

He edited to clarify what he meant, and I remarked in a later post that I agree with his clarified point.

Been refused rider swap for a "tall enough" who didn't/couldn't ride. And it was due to disability, which you'd think give me a break. No.

And honestly looking at the bigger picture they should refuse.

If they allowed the swap for Grandma doesn't want to ride, Grandpa is sick, Sally Sue can't wait here alone ............. everyone would be abusing it, doubling those FP+ and probably bringing along there non-rider to insure doubling.

OP wasn't even clear if the 7 year old is riding or not, it almost sounded like they wanted the pass so each parent got to ride with the child - that is not what it is for.

If there are two parents and one non-riding, then both parents get a FP+, it's not like they were riding with anyone anyway, so no need. Getting a FP+ in this situation is using the situation to double your FP+.

If there are more than the three of them and only one child is not riding, they can then ask .......... but if the child is big enough, they may refuse.

The website has changed multiple times regarding this and is consistently incompatible with operations at times.

The SAME page that was quoted as "policy" also says -

"At least one adult member of your party and the Guests who are not riding will be given a Ride Switch pass and asked to wait in a designated area (usually outside of the attraction)."

There are no desginated areas at the attractions. This was from many years ago even before FastPass. You couldn't wander or come back later. Everyone stayed put. I remember Splash Mtn you waited on the exit dock for the boat to come back.

Scroll down and look at the list of Attractions. 7DMT isn't even there. It's been open two years, and not updated. Sadly Disney does not keep the website updated.

Sure you can go to GR and make a scene and Disney will probably give you some FP+ ........

The CM at SDMT refused to give us a rider swap pass for my TWO year old that just met the height requirement. They did not care if he was scared and didn't want to ride. If two adults want to ride and the child doesn't want to, you don't need a rider swap anyway, if you both have a FP you just take turns. You'd be doing the same with the swap pass.

Two pages of posts and I'm still not sure it was clearly answered (although to be fair I'm not quite sure what the actual question was since it didn't specify who was waiting and who was riding).

But anyway - the age of the child mentioned by OP is irrelevant. Here's who needs fastpasses:
1. Anyone going through the queue in the first group of riders must have a FP
2. Children who are waiting and will never be riding the ride in question do not need a fastpass.
3. The 2nd group of riders (up to 3) who waited while the first group rode do not need a fastpass. If the waiting group is less than 3 people, some in the first group can ride again with the waiters since the pass admits 3 people.

And as others have mentioned - this is all dependent on being eligible to get a FP in the first place. If the child is tall enough but doesn't want to ride, you may or may not get one depending on the cast member working the line. You're not entitled to one but you'll hear endless anecdotes either way.

I would like some clarification about this also. My husband, myself, our 18 month old daughter and my parents (referred to as the grandparents in the 2 scenarios below) are going to Disney soon and I am somewhat confused about rider switch also. I have been to Disney many times but never with a small child. Would my husband and I be able to use Rider Switch on the bigger rides as my daughter obviously can't do them? We don't want to ride alone so could one of us:
1. Fast pass the rides (both of my parents would fast pass also) and ride as a group, then switch off with the parent who stayed back and grandparents ride again?
2. Fast pass the rides and only takes 1 grandparent and then switches off with the other parent and grandparent who stayed back?

I'm not worried about maximizing my fast passes, I'm just trying to figure out how rider switch vs fast passes for everyone works.

A. If the child is too short to ride, yes.
1. Yes.
2. Yes.
A single Rider Switch pass is good for up to 3 guests to ride using it.
