Child or Adult ticket???

Hi all,

We are planning an upcoming trip and my son turns 10 mid trip. I am going to buy a 7 day park hopper; does he require an adult ticket or can I get away with the child?

I believe, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, that as long as he is 9 on your first day, he only needs a child ticket for the remainder of the trip.

Buy the ticket based on your son's age on the day you check in. Disney will consider him to be in that age group for the length of your stay, even if he has a birthday while you're there.

Am I correct in assuming the same rules would apply to the dining plan as well?

They are whatever age they are at check in. So if they are 2 when you check in they are free the whole trip. So 9 at check in... 9 for the trip. Now that includes dining. I see people say they are 10 to get adult meals...but you pay the adult tickets as well.

During free dining a lot of people up their 9 year olds to 10 for the better food options on the DDP. If you are not going during free dining it's not worth the extra cost of the ticket and the increase price of the dining plan. Just pay OOP for a few more snacks or side items to fill him up.

It's not really child and adult, but guest 3-9 and guest 10+. And like someone else said, it all depends on his age when he checks into the hotel or first uses the ticket.
