Child Leashes?

i may just be a teen but i think leashes are crule there little kids not pets and how will they ever learn to behave if they dont have the chance not to

We just bought a little backpack type one at Target. DS2 chose the bear version, and he just loves it! He held the box all the way home, and then insisted we get it out and put it on immediately. He asks several times a day to wear his 'pappack'. For $10, even if I never use it at DL because he never runs off, I will consider it money well spent for the peace of mind alone. And because he loves that soft squishy bear.

I'd never use a harness.

If using a harness was the only way we could go to WDW, I would put the trip off until my child was older.

Now before all the harness users get in an uproar, understand that this is just my opinion. All I did was answer the OPs questions.

I second this :thumbsup2

I HATE child harnesses. I really, really, really do. I have sworn to never use one. Now, with that being said, I plan on buying one of the backpack style ones and packing it for our upcoming trip-just in case. Our DS2 is well-behaved-when is is alone with us. However, we are travelling with a 3 and 4 year old that get him too worked up to pay attention really well! Hopefully we won't have to use it, but like others have said, I would rather keep my baby safe! :sunny:

My mother has use in only one arm, don't get me wrong she is a very able bodied woman, but when I was young she put me in a harness. I liked to walk and wander. I'm almost 41 years young and it did not have a negative effect on me.

I now have a 5yo DD and would have used one with her if it had been needed, but she loved her stroller so it was never necessary.

So, for parents out there thinking about a leash/harness...Do what works for you. :)

:rotfl: Oooooooh to be a teen again! Sorry I couldn't resist... :rotfl2:

I have 3 little ones. oldest being 6. Use em keep those kiddos safe! Its hard to "teach" a 13 month old NOT to run off... Sure when they are older you can start to teach them all about strangers but at that age everything is just one big game! I bought 2 of them wayyyy back when and I have never used them. We actually put them on my girls to "play" with them and get them use to them in the house and they laughed and laughed with them on. Its not like we are using cattle prods on them we are using a little fabric to keep them safe. I've been blessed with 3 lazy kids who really dont like to walk anywhere if we let her my oldest daughter would still be in a stroller.

comparing a child harness to walking a dog is IMHO like comparing a playpen or crib to caging an animal in the zoo.

They were the only way I could go for a walk with my toddler twins - otherwise, they would never have been able to get out of the stroller! They were a must for any event that would involve crowds. I had to stop using them when I lost one (we had the Elmo ones) because they LOVED them, and would fight over who got to wear it!

We have the Wal-Mart puppy one. DS2.5 LOVES IT! He wants to wear it at home even. Likes to carry his "puppy" around and wants you to put it on him. We've been to FL twice with it and all we've gotten was, "Wow, that's so cool! Where did you get that? I definitely need one of those for my child." Never gotten any dirty looks (at least that we saw ;) ).

I personally wouldn't go to WDW without our "puppy". My DS likes to go, go, go without or with Mommy and Daddy.
