Child Leashes. Your thoughts?

In the video it was around his neck which was absolutely disgusting. Even more disgusting is that no one stopped that mother.

i think the kid got twisted up in it. i don't think the harness was meant to be on his neck.

oh im sorry....i didnt click the link cuz i dont want to get viruses :/

In some places, like a theme park or such, they can be useful. As long as they aren't hurting the child.

Kids don't need leashes
They need discipline.

This thread reminds me of a conversation some guys were having in my English calss last year.

Guy 1: I hate child leashes. They mess the kid up.
Guy 2: My parents used one on me.
Guy 1: Which proves my point.

Anyways, I see nothing wrong with them.

The whole idea is stupid. Why don't you just hold their hand?

Kids are human beings not animals!!! I totally understand that kids can easily run away from their parents but if the parents can't handle it then strap them in a stroller which is totally normal and not humiliating or don't bring your kid to public places where they can run away. As for the story that is horrible for a child with that kind of disability to be pulled around on a leash is horrible!! What is wrong with people these days!!:scared1:

People are just too lazy. They don't want to have to push or carry them all day so they use it to keep them close, but still make them walk.

Wow, have you ever even been around a child? 'Holding their hand' does not work! They wiggle out of it and run off.

You're a kid, so where do you come off judging other people's parenting skills? You have NO idea what you're talking about.

People who use child harnesses are not lazy, they just love their child and don't want him/her to get lost.

This thread, and everyone's ridiculous judgements, are bewildering to me.

I think it really depends in like a busy place like the Zoo or Disney World I think it's fine but in the grocery unless it's like a huge busy Wal-Mart I don't like the idea
But if your child's known to wander off I could understand why someone would use it...

The woman on Utube deserves to lose custody of da kid. no kid deserves that. they simply are not ready to go on long outings. god forbid , da parent is gonna wait six months until da kid is ready. this kind of thing disgusts me. to qoute another PP, kids are not animals. what are some folks thinking ? thinking of their own convenience sure not da kids.

I think they're disgusting, but for some people they're needed. I understand why people need them, I just don't like the terminology. "Leash" makes it sound like your child is an animal. "Restraint", because that's what it is, probably sounds less animalistic.

Oh well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. You need one, that's fine. I just hope I never have to use one on my children.

I can completely understand why people dissagree with them after watching the video. that was a terrible use for something that is so usefull. When my oldest was 2 and I had another baby, I had to have one for her as she was a wanderer and would go to anyone. I was always terriffied of losing her. It was a wonderfull way to keep track of her and was only needed in very crowded places for a year or so until she understood about staying with mom.

I would have to agree. It's not easy to hold a child's hand when they're completely lost in something across the store and want to get to it. We take my cousins and one is too young so they sit in the seat of the cart. When we put the other in the basket they end up trying to climb out and almost falling, therefore we let them walk.

If I was alone I'd have no problem using a leash to keep them near me. I'm not lazy, I'm trying to shop, watch one kid and keep the other one close by all at the same time. Even if I had one child, sometimes there's so many things going on you can't concentrate on it all. If I was lazy I wouldn't have brought them in the first place! And sometimes parents have to bring their children, maybe their babysitter is sick and nobody is around to watch the kids, you can't just leave them at home. :confused3

If you think that holding their hand seems like a bad idea just gps track them. Then nobody will stare at you like the child leash. Kids are people, not pets.

if you feel the need to use them on your child, fine, whatever.
but i think that they are wrong, and i would never use one on my own children.

It has nothing to do with laziness.

Also? I sincerely hope you're joking with that last post. You GPS track criminals, cars, and pets. Not children.
