Child ID's

Another easy thing to do is just take the tag of your suitcase and lace it through the child's shoes. Doesn't cost any extra and you already have your info on it.

I ordered one of the bracelets off of spiritbands.com on Sunday and I got it in the mail today....granted, it shipped from Sacramento, so it only had to go 300 miles, but still!!

$5 for one and they sent me 2 - very cool....

they have tons of colors and my son is wearing one of them as we speak....

Wow great idea thanks for posting. We have the little beepers that go on the shoes and sound a beep on the parents transmiter if the chil wanders more then 10 feet from it but I am always afraid at disney what if you don't hear it. Stuff like that hapens so fast. I am going to order these also.

The disney luggage tag (or any luggage tag) looped through a belt loop works great too.

My kids were extremely shy when they were young and it worried me that they would not speak to a CM if they were lost. I hooked a luggage tag onto their belt loops. I had written on the tag, "I'm lost. Please call my dad at 555-555-5555" which was our cell number. Thank goodness, they never had to use them, but they both said that it made them feel a lot better.

Another tip, although a bit off topic, is to take a pic of your child EVERY morning...if your child goes missing it's hard to remember what they were wearing that day.

Be sure to TALK to your child about what to do if you get seperated. Show them what a CM is and what to say if they find themselves alone.

I USUALLY have my son attached to me like glue, but a year ago I went one way in AK and he went the other. Worst and the longest 15 seconds of my life. Yep- I was one of those moms that was frantically calling for her child. I spotted his head just as he was going around a stand. When I arrived at the stand he was calm as could be and I was a mess.

Prior to our trip I had made a "special" Disney only bracelet. That had his last name on it and our cell #. He was showing the CM his bracelet and told her he couldnt find his Mom.

I hugged him and told him I was sorry for losing him (not the other way around) I also told him how proud I was of him for knowing just what to do.

I was shook up and obviously felt TERRIBLE. I think our little talk prior to the trip and having the bracelet was more for me than for him! :rotfl2: As well as giving him the confidence that he is not "lost" I was just a phone call away.

From traveling with my son so much, he knows my name (not just MOM) and he knows his full name and where he lives (City, State)

I just ordered a dog tag for my niece's kid. $6.99 (got the form from the vet - it's truly a dog tag).
I included:

her first and last name
her mommy's first and last name
their home address
her mommy's cell #
her daddy's cell #

plan on using the ring to tie it onto her shoelace (provided she wears sneakers of course). Ordered it in pink (her fav color) and with a pix of a dog (they also had mice, cats, hearts, circles, bones, etc).

We used Who's Shoes ID tags for DS's shoes when we went last May. He was just barely over 2 and spoke well, but wouldn't really speak to strangers out of shyness. The ID tags gave me a little piece of mind and were very secure on his shoes. The only way to see his name and info was to take the tag off and look closely, so there was little chance of someone luring him away by name just from seeing it on the tag. The tag would most likely be noticed quickly by whoever finds the child and could alert the parents sooner causing less anxiety. BTW, DS3 learned to spell my first and last name (30 letters total, both very unusual names) just by hearing me spell it on the phone and at the pharmacy (he can spell his name as well), so now we're working on his phone number. It's amazing how much little kids can pick up when you aren't even trying to teach them.

We bought those caribaner (SP?) clipped keychains, the ones with the cute little messages inside. You can get them for about $1.00 at walmart, or sometimes they come with portrait packages at Sears/Penneys. We popped them open, printed out their names, our names, and cell #'s on them, laminated them and popped the key chains back closed. We can clip them on their belt loops and if they don't have them, just on their waistband. They wear crocs some days, so the whosshoes aren't always workable. We talk to them about showing a cast member if we all get separated. We've been 4 times and we haven't had to use them, thank goodness. Since they are laminated we even use them at Blizzard Beach.

That's an awful lot of personal info should the tag fall off of the child. In the hands of a "criminal mind" the person has your child's name, parent's name (to coherse the child into going with them) and home address. I may just be way paranoid, but sounds a little risky in today's messed-up world. :scared1:

Oh, we went with the neoprene bracelets for our trip last year. We ended up not having to use them {sigh of relief} but felt much safer having them. It had our child's name and my cell phone number. We went over ahead of time with them about finding a CM if they get separated and showing them their bracelet so that they could contact us on our cell in the park. We'll be using them again this year - but hope to not need them of course. :goodvibes
