Child Free Flights ?

I had some guy with BO that sat spread eagled totally invading my space. In addition, he had his arm on my armrest the whole time so I couldn't listen to the radio. ;)
Two more issues to bring the FA into the mix on. In the latter case, after he refuses to change the channel for you.
behind me with his knees and laptop that he keeps banging into the seat trying to move
Does he have to move other than when getting up to use the rest room or to let the person next to him use the rest room when you too should move namely raise your seat back to let the person next to him climb out?

I love the sense of entitlement people feel just because they fly frequently

SO TRUE. To be perfectly honest, I've seen FAR worse behavior from the super-entitled feeling "road warriors" and frequent fliers than I have from most children.

I was actually going through security in St. Louis a few weeks ago, and the employee line and the "super elite triple platinum gold club" line were right next to each other. I got to the TSA podium at the same time as some guy in the elite line, and after flashing my crew badge the officer waved me through towards the checkpoint. The guy in the elite line starts tearing into the TSA guy, literally yelling at the top of his lungs for letting me go through before checking his ID and letting him go through. I was like, REALLY?!? Best part is, I was collecting my belongings on the other side of the checkpoint, and the guy was STILL arguing with the officer and a supervisor about how insulted he was and how valuable his time is. Some people REALLY need to get a life lol

Someone who probably should have been selected on the spot for extra screening (remember the SSSS from years ago?)

If you think crying babies are a problem? Let's hope they don't allow cell phone use in flight. The person complaining the most about noisy children would probably be the same person who would yak on their cell phone all the way from NY to LA. Some people have these things constantly glued to their ears and they always talk louder on the phone than to the person next to them. I was in a screening line at BWI once where a guy towards the front of the line didn't miss a beat as he put his stuff on the belt and took his shoes off while talking on the phone. He threw his phone in a bin as it was going into the scanner. When he got to the other side, he picked up the phone and started talking again (not even sure if he turned the thing off). Give me 15 minutes of an unruly child (yes, I will be annoyed, but will tolerate it) over 2 to 4 hours of a self-absorbed business person who is constantly on the phone.

Must have been a slow news week...

ETA - I saw the NYT piece when it came out and the link above actually treats the subject a lot more reasonably. But the idea is ridiculous. Give me "jerk free" zones or zones where the guy next to me is guaranteed to not remove his shoes and air his smelly feet the whole flight.

I thought shoe removal was required by TSA.

I am holding out for people-free flights.

Use the carrier this guy flew on . . .

Sounds like my dh. He is 6'4''. There is no way for him to sit normally and not have his knees resting against the back of the seat in front of him. While I understand how annoying it could be for the person in front of him, how about the woman who was seated in front of him and as soon as the plane reached cruising altitude, starting slamming her seat back on his knees?? She wanted to lie back and read the paper. Well, that seat wasn't going all the way back, but she kept trying. Now, this was just before my dh had a partial knee replacement so it didn't feel very nice on his knees. Did this woman ever turn around to see what the issue was? Nope. Well, after about 3 mins of this slamming, dh leaned around the seat, tapped her on the shoulder and told her that his knees weren't going anywhere and if she continued to slam the seat back on his knees he was going to feed the newspaper to her! Okay, so not a very nice response by him. I get it, and I was horrified when he did it. But, the woman did stop.

Been there, done that . . . avoid Spirit!
did he get points?

My own favorite was the guy on the flight from Beijing who kept opening and closing his laptop bag - the one with the velcro . . . That's a really annoying sound, and with people trying to sleep, loud too. I don't know what the FA said to him, but it ended quickly.

I've had a drunk girl fall asleep in my lap in first class - definitely would've preferred a child to that experience. (Or for one of my guy friends to have been on that flight instead of me since they might have enjoyed it!) The flight attendant was very apologetic and tried to roll her back into her own seat.

I thought shoe removal was required by TSA.

Only when going through security, on the ground, before going to your gate. After you take off your shoes, all metal objects, emptying your pockets and go through the xray, you put your shoes back on, gather all your belongings and go to your gate.

Once on the plane, you are free to remove your shoes. Please don't. :scared1: :rotfl: :thumbsup2

I fly once or twice a month for work. I always make it a point to see if a mom traveling with small children by herself could use a hand. Why? Because when I had 2 18 month old children on a trip by myself, I'll never forget a moment when a guy in a suit rescued me after countless others walked by, rolling their eyes. My double stroller needed to be collapsed, one daughter was sobbing. . .

I was so grateful and he said "I travel all the time, and I try to be the guy I'd want my wife to find if she needed help." Humbling for me and a valuable life lesson.

Now that I'm a parent, I'm so sorry for the eye rolling I did as a 20-something idiot who thought being a business traveler made me important.
