Child DDP - Appetizer?

Does the child's DDP come with appetizer? If it's not available under kids' menu, does the kid order from the adult menu for the appetizer portion of the DDP?

Yes, kids get an appetizer, but pretty much ALL restaurants have kids appetizers on the menus. In my last two trips I did not see one that did not. They are pretty much the same at EVERY restaurant-salad with ranch dressing, chicken noodle soup, veggies and dip. Sometimes my kids just passed. They were so sick of chicken noodle soup by the end of the trip.

When the dining plan first came out most restaurants did NOT have kids appetizers. That probably changed when tons of people ordered adult appetizers for their 4 year olds! Let's face it, many adult appetizers are in the $10 range and that's what the child plan costs per day.

If the child orders one of the set meals the whole meal comes at one time and the yogurt/apples are technically the dessert.

If they order one of the mix and match meals they all have appetizer choices--none of which appealed to my kids. They ate a few carrots here and there but not happily

Alfredo would not give our son an appetizer in Dec. They said his meal only had dessert on DDP. I know that they should have options, but I never try to get servers upset before I get my meal...

The only place we went to that did not have a child's "appetizer" was Wolfgang Pucks. They stated that our DD was not allowed an appetizer since they did not have a child's one. Some of the so-called "appetizers" that were listed for children I really wouldn't consider appetizers. I wish I could remember what they were, but I really can't.

Note that both of these instances were non-Disney-owned restaurants. It makes me think we might be better off avoiding non-Disney-owned restaurants while on the Dining Plan.
