These look like the pet options we have now, they have dog hammocks for the car and harnesses.
Maybe they found an old factory full of them and just put them in new packaging

My inlaws had the harness for my husband when he was a kid. Didn't stop him from climbing on the trunk of the convertible, while it was moving...

My moms car not only didn’t have seatbelts, but the front passenger door would fly open if not locked. Friends weren’t allowed to sit there, but my sister and I flew out a few times.

Anybody remember the little booster seat that simply hooked over the front seat? Had it's own little steering wheel. It was perfectly safe. Any little bump and the mom arm automatically extended to hold back any movement. Moms back then didn't need a gym to tone arms, to busy flinging arms left and right holding kids from flying up in the air.

I was 3 1/2 years old when my sister was born.

After my parents came to pick me up from my grandparents' house (where I stayed while my mom was in the hospital w/ my sister), I rode home in the front seat of the car - sitting in between mom & dad. My mom was in the passenger seat, & she held my baby sister in her arms for the car ride home.

Looking down at my sister in my mom's arms while we drove home is one of my earliest memories.

I remember this. Hooked over the seat with a steering wheel. So safe. LOL

Fatalities per mile traveled has gone steadily down. I remember my parents had a 70s era driver side seat belt that buzzed. They just buckled it and sat over it. I of course sat on my mom’s lap in the front seat. And yes kids like me would get launched into windshields.

Got to remember that back in the sixties there were much fewer cars, and they didn't zip down 6 lane highways at 80 MPH.

My parents had a Pinto wagon when I was young, I used to ride in the hatch completely unrestrained.

Remember, Subaru used to sell a car here that had seats in the open pick up bed...the Brat.

I still think they're super cool, but would never let anyone ride back there.
