Child as adult question

We are thinking of changing our deluxe dining plan, with 2 adults, 1 disney adult and 1 child, into the standard dining plan with 2 adults and 2 disney adults - my 8 year old son now prefers more adult type options for food but to list him as adult on the deluxe would cost us too much. So now I'm trying to number crunch... If we did switch to standard dining with all adults and wanted to pay out of pocket to a buffet/family style meal, would we need to pay the adult price for the child still? I just wasn't sure if it is linked to our account and they will determine what we pay based on how the reservation is listed (which would be as basically 4 adults even though he is only 8 )? I'm also worried because he looks much older than 8 (he's already 5'1" and will be taller by the time we go). Trying to maximize our savings!

I'm not sure if you would have to put him in as an adult in the package.

However why would you want to pay out of pocket for a buffet/family style meal? If you were going to pay out of pocket for anything you would want to pick the cheapest meal you were going to do to pay out of pocket for. This tends to be breakfast or lunch at a non buffet type meal. The buffets tend to cost more since they are all you can eat.

I need to run the numbers again for all of it - we usually do deluxe, so just trying to figure things out and decide if going down would be better since he now prefers more adult type meals. But in order for me to run numbers, I don't know if I would use adult prices or child prices for him at a buffet? He's technically a child, so I would think to use that; but if he's listed on our resort reservations as a 10 year old, will they just use that age (even though he's younger)?

When you compare prices, use the child prices for buffets and AYCTE restaurants. If you choose to pay out of pocket, he will still be a child.

The dining plan rarely saves money for adults. Almost all of the savings is in the kids plan. If you're upgrading to the full adult price, you'll most likely be better off without the plan at all.

Thanks, I will use child prices for my figures. I'm going to price everything out without the dining plan too, but with the spd special I think it may be an ok deal... We will see!
