I've also posted to the trip reports board - but also wanted to share it here with everyone who helped the planning process. Thanks.

The cast:
Me: 34, 2nd trip to WDW (last time was 2001 – but we only did MK 1 day – does that count?)
DW: 36 also her 2nd / 1st real trip
DS: 5, ditto for him;

Some background…DW and myself get Disney. We really do. We know way too many people who look at us like we’re from Mars when we talk about going to WDW and how we can’t wait etc, and it’s at least a year and a half before our trip! (Did I mention we’ve only been to the Mk, and only for one day?) But we really are Disney people. Ds has grown up surrounded by enough McDonald’s happy meal Disney toys, Disney videos and DVD’s to last a lifetime – we bought them waaaay before we got married – ‘cuz we’re still both kids at heart, so he’ll be primed to go.

I’m the trip planner and logistics expert in the family. DW is very content to let me spend hours at the computer exploring, pricing, reading every trip report written in case there’s something I may have missed and might want to include in our trip. I’ll read the guide books and attraction descriptions and she trusts me to make the right decisions and plan the most amazing vacation I can. Is she nuts?

I’ve planned and researched this trip since last November (’02) and have joined the DC, for the discounts and incredible Disney magazine and updates they send out, and decide to purchase an AP for myself for a healthy room discount at ASSp and 4DPHP’s for DW and DS. I picked up tickets for MVMCP for the 9th, and as a surprise anniversary present for DW in July, got Tier 2 seats for Cirque on the 6th, as the rest of the days are dark days during our stay. She can’t believe I spent that much on three seats for Cirque (did I mention we’re from Canada – and our dollar, let’s just say, isn’t exactly at par with the US greenback?) But hey, she’s worth it!

Karen’s best friend since grade 7 has come to spend the weekend with us in mid November (’03) and we seem to spend the entire weekend discussing our upcoming trip and how we’re looking forward to it, and what attractions we’d like to see and do, and generally hogging all the talk time, but amazingly Krista doesn’t seem to mind at all! She’s loved Disney since she was a kid too (the Jungle Book was her favorite – it gave her a love of jazz), but has never been in a position, or thought of herself as the type of person to go to WDW. Sure, she dreamed of going as a child – but being Canadian it was always too far and/or too expensive to go. She so excited for us.

Now it has to be said upfront that Krista has a sense of humour – some might say it’s an acquired sense of humor – but she cracks us up. She quick with a joke, and is an absolute delight to spend time with. We always have a blast when she stops in; and DS adores her too – always sad when Auntie has to leave. She’s really a part of the family. She’s just a hoot!

So on a whim I ask her if she’d like to come with us.

You’d have thought I shot her.

She can’t believe I’ve asked her. She can’t believe she’s got the opportunity (less than a month away) to go! “Are you guys sure you want me to come with you? I don’t want to be no third wheel or anything like that! Are you sure? Really? No jokes now, I couldn’t take that. Really”

We’re sure! We’ve already booked the hotel – one more adult won’t hurt; the rental car is looked after – all she needs is airfare and her tickets! While we’d enjoy this as a family vacation for just the three of us, we both know that the added element of having Auntie Krista with us will make the trip unforgettable, and that much more magical. DS loves Auntie Krista – so she’s making sure its okay with him too. We’re all sure!

Auntie spends the rest of the day in a fog, and heads home after a whirlwind weekend that she never expected. Monday, I’ve already booked her tickets for MVMCP, Cirque, and her 4DPH before she’s even said she’ll come – I just know she will!

Right as rain, she calls at lunchtime to say she’d spent the morning asking everyone at work if she’d be crazy to go? And they look at her and say “What? You’d be crazy not to!” Her boss tells her to go – don’t worry about the time - she’s got plenty of vacation days – WDW doesn’t come everyday! She’s talked to her mom who Krista thought for sure would be the voice of reason – but she couldn’t believe Krista hadn’t already booked a flight! So Krista’s seen the travel agent and booked her flights to match ours, but she’d like me to look after everything else. Told ya! The poor kid’s a mess now! She won’t be able to sleep for the next three weeks!

This is going to be magical…

This is great. I can't wait to read how excited she will be when she finally gets there. Really nice of you to include DW's friend.

Can't wait to read part 2 ... That was really nice of you to invite DW's friend :) I wish more of my friends loved Disney as much as I do... then I could invite one of them.
