Chicken rice soup??

I make a chicken noodle soup with chicken breasts, carrots, celery, onions, spices and water that simmers for 3 hours and then you take the meat off the bones and add 1 cup of noodles for 10 minutes. The noodles cook in the broth. I need to know if I can change this recipe to chicken rice soup. Would I cook the rice and then add after the 3 hours or would I let the rice cook in the broth at the end? Noodles don't use up the broth to cook like rice would. Any suggestions?
 
Whenever I have made it, I just add the rice with everything else...I just let it all simmer together, it is great when it is done...:) I am sure others do it differently though! :) Chicken Rice Soup is one of my favorite things to make and I just made it the other day after cooking a Roaster for dinner!! :)
 
I've always used noodles and rice interchangeably in my soup & add either (uncooked) after the veggies are tender. Of course, I never really "measure" - just toss stuff in. You're right, the rice will use more of the broth - but it will taste a lot better if cooked in the broth. Usually, I just add water to the soup if it cooks down too much. You could always add a bit of bouillon if you think it tastes watered down.

Oh - and I only use converted rice, and never had any trouble.
