Chicken Pox after vaccine?

My oldest daughter had the vaccination when she was a baby and still got the chicken pox at age 3 or 4. It was a bad case too! I was SO disappointed that the vaccination didn't work.

My other daughter had 2 vaccinations as a baby/child and she hasn't gotten the chicken pox at all. She is now 11 years old. I think it worked for her!

My neighbor's kid had the shot and has the CP right now. He has less than 20 pox on him though.

the person is contagious for the 2 wks before the spots appear. Once the spots are there they are not contagious anymore. Not to freak you out but, those that have had Chicken pox earlier in life as of toddler & baby yrs are more at risk to get Shingles which is much more painful. Chicken Pox is a childhood disease. Most of us had it when we were 5/6/7 ish. Those that actually catch CP are more immune to it and less likely to re-catch it.

My brother got it in Kindergarten and my mom told me "Go play with your brother".:lmao:And Yes then I had it too. I was 4.

My doctor revaccinated me before college for almost everything. drew a titer for ChPox. Was way high so no I didn't need that one. I have been exposed to lots of suff - chpox, pneumonia, TB, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff etc. I work in an ER. Who brings stuff home and gets me sick? My kids!

I know you are talking about your child but I am 31 and had the shots when I was in college (1998) since I never got cp as a child. I was exposed as a child numerous times. My mother would take me over to my friends if they had cp. I even took a bath with my sister when she had them. I never got them. When I became pregnant the doctor tested me to see if I was immune. The shots did not work and I am still able to get cp. Maybe you could have you daughter tested after the shot series if she doesn't get them this time. Good luck. Maybe she will be like me and never get them.

My boys both got the shot when they were 18 months (they're now 14 and 11). Back then they were only giving one shot. Both ended up with mild cases of chicken pox with a couple weeks of each other. I'm thinking they were 7 and 10 at the time. Last year when they went for their physicals, the doctor said they were now recommending a 2nd dose since the first didn't seem to give good protection for many kids. I told the doctor they'd both had chicken pox already so they didn't need the 2nd shot.

My son got spots after having the shot ... there were not that many I would say about 50 tops. Better than when I had it when i was 20 and was covered head to toe and had them inside my mouth and throat as well.

Just FYI- most states have exemption laws regarding vaccines. Almost all allow for a religious or medical exemption, and many states also have personal exemptions. Usually, kids without the vaccines must miss school if there is an outbreak of a vaccine-related illness.

We use an alternative/delayed vaccine schedule, and my kids do not get the chicken pox vaccine (though they may later on). They will still be able to enroll in school with no issues. I just wanted to let you know that the child's parents didn't somehow slip through the cracks--it is actually quite a process in most places!

My older two (12 & 13) had one shot as toddlers and both got chicken pox at 6 & 7 yrs old. The 13 yr old got a worse case, but it had been 1 year longer than the 12 yr old since he had had the shot.

At the time my Dr said they were seriously considering the 2nd booster because so many kids were still getting it. I even had to be interviewed by the county health department for their cases so they could be used in the research.

Now, the younger one had both shots and he's never had chicken pox. Statistically, with both shots it's probably more likely that it would be a very mild case. But as it was only 1 year ago, it's probably very unlikely that they would catch it at all

My kids had chicken pox this winter. Here was our experience...

DS1, almost 11, had shot as toddler and had the mildest case. Literally about a dozen spots

DS2, 9, had shot as a toddler and had a mild case

DS3, 7, had it the worst, and also had the shot as a toddler.

DS4, 4, has never had any immunizations, and is the one who brought it home from pre-school. He had a moderate case too, but not terrible. He did have the complication of an infected pock that went into blood poisoning.

DS5, 1, had a fairly mild case, and he hasn't had any immunizations either. He also had an infected pock.

My 3 oldest boys never got the booster, either.
