So it looks like they have added a Chick-Fil-A to my own personal Disney World (Cedar Point).

My question here is do you patronise Chick-Fil-A?

Personally I have never been, I'm realy uneasy with their corporate culture.

Anyone else choose not to patronise this chain?

What is it about their corporate culture makes you hesitate? We don't have Chik-fil-a in the city so it's not an option, but I'd like to know in case I come across one in my travels whether it's something I should be concerned with.

Rick, the chain is operated by a very fundamental religious person. All the restaurants are closed on Sundays. They openly support fundamentalist causes, and are rumored to be quite uhh..."picky" in their hiring practices.

I do avoid them whenever possible, but on the few occasions where everyone in the office where I was working wanted to eat there, the food has been very tasty.

I really loved them growing up...we had one at the local mall. Although it always made me mad that they were closed on Sunday and that is usually the day my parents would let me go to the mall. Now they make me angry for more than that reason.



So no, we do not eat at any of their locations.

When I first heard they weren’t open Sunday’s a Red Flag went up in my mind. Or should I say pride flag? Anyway, I stopped going there based on that. A little closed minded of me?

Well, I love Chick-fil-A! They do alot for the communities they are in. They give to the homeless, help low income families, and support nonprofits. They do many more things for the community. I have experience working with them because I work for a nonprofit. I work in a prevention program for child abuse and they have done a lot of giving to our families.

Well this is disstressing. I am a HUGE CFA fan and while I knew of their Christian ties I didn't know it went into discrimination. It also sucks because food wise its the best thing to happen to Cedar Point. All the rest of the food there is blech.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, guys. I am another who does not believe that being Christian and choosing to close on Sundays is a bad thing, nor have I ever heard of any sort of gay bias in their hiring. As a matter of fact I can specifically recall at least a couple of people at my local restaurant who are gay.

Also, that they used some family values-type books from any organization in a promotion does not relate to being fanatical endorsers of everyone and everything of that organization. If someone has a smoking gun showing otherwise, I'm open to revising my opinion, but I think it is a good company

They have the best fast food, IMHO. AND their take out service is amazing -- they never have gotten an order of mine wrong and they are unbelievable fast. My favorite fast food place, for sure.

S. Truett Cathy, the founder and chief of Chick-Fil-A also has received awards from the "Family Research Council", and he hosts seminars and retreats for his traditionally married employees annually.

On a side note, who needs Chicken at Cedar Point when you have those great French Fries!

I think what really set me over the edge was the 5th anniversary of 9-11. President Bush had asked everyone to lower their flags to half staff in honor of the occasion for a week. Well I made it my personal mission to go to every local business with a flag who was not complying to ask them to lower their flag. (I know...get a life....but I take these things seriously sometimes) At THREE separate Chick-Fil-A locations (and mind you this chain is famous for flying HUGE American Flags at each location) the managers basically told me they would have to get out a ladder to lower the flag for the week.

I have also read reports of them firing people who are not Christian.

For the record, them being closed on Sundays has no impact on my opinion. I think it would be great if every business closed one day a week and forced us to spend some quality family time with each other....

Chick-Fil-A is just weird. I don't get it. There's just something about many companies that appeal mainly to people in middle America that is different from those who do business in the major metro areas. I have experienced Chick-Fil-A in Arizona and Colorado. The strangest experience came in Parker, CO (in Denver metro). It was a family-run business. Now on the out-side, this would not be a problem.

Dad was working the drive-thru, mom was cooking, DS (about 15) was working one bagging food, while DS (about 9) was taking orders and working the register. I'm sorry, but having your nine year old son working a cash register in your fast food franchise just rubs me the wrong way.

And there's nothing impressive about the food at all. Unless you like dry chicken. Sure, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for. That's what I can't figure out about some of these mid-America chains. Places like Chick-Fil-A, Whataburger, Dairy Queen, Sonic, Hardees, White Castle, etc. They are nothing close to the bigger fast food chains. Not that the big guys are much better.

I am going to risk getting flamed for this, but it just seems to me that many of these places appeal to a lower audience. I can't help but equate their patrons to the NASCAR crowd. They are a large part of the population, yet very different. Of course I guess I am probably different to them too.

I work very hard for my money. I choose to spend it very carefully. I will not knowingly support any company or organization that discriminates against any group of people.

Never been to a Chik... and never will. My choice. My decision.

But then I don't support any fast food enterprises as a general rule.
