My friends and I are interested in going on a short trip to Chicago (3 days). We want something within a reasonable price range and close to all the "touristy" stuff. Which hotels would be good for us? I have no clue about the whereabouts or quality of these. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I posted this same question myself a few months ago. We were going to go there over the holidays to visit my SIL and BIL.

Sheraton Hotel and Towers, House of Blues Hotel, Omni Suites Hotel, Palmer House Hilton, The Whitehall, Le Meridien-I was particularly fond of this one.

The Sheraton had some good deals and they were right by Navy Pier. SIL and BIL both work on the Odyssey cruise ship that is docked there.

Have fun and don't forget to do a trip report.:D

We spent a weekend at the Lenox House Suites and loved it. They usually offer weekend 'shopper's packages' for great prices. The hotel is only a block or so off of Michigan Ave, if memory serves it is on Ohio Street.

Im not sure if you do priceline or not but we went to Chicago last May and we got the Omni Suites for 79.00 a night and then we got the Knickerbocker for 79.00 also (we added a day late) Omni was great a little uppity for me and my kids but if it was just me and hubby it would have been fine. It was really close to shopping but we took our car to Navy Pier.

Hi Soccer Princess!

What a great weekend! I think it may help if you narrowed your touring area. If you want to do strictly shopping, stay near N. Michigan Ave. If you want to do the museum trek, you'll be a bit south of the shopping. If heights is your thing and you want to do the Sears Tower, you want to go a bit west.

Any of the hotels previously mentioned are nice hotels. If you stay with a known name, you'll be fine. Don't forget to ask around for packages! Whether it be shopping, museum, food or just get aways...deals can be found!

Have fun!:sunny:

Last time I did Chicago it was a girls only weekend. A friend used Expedia I think and got us rooms at the Westin on the river for $80 a night. Its a great location....by the river and across the street from the House of Blues. But like someone else mentioned if you're doing the museums and aquarium then stay farther south.

This would be pretty far south - could walk it - but the bus service in Chicago is great and if you go during the summer there is free trolley service - but the Marriott on Printer's Row is actually a very nice hotel. I stayed there last June and loved the room. The location is two or three blocks west of Michigan on Congress and Dearborn (I think that is the crossing street).

One hotel I won't recommend is the Congress - I just don't like it.

All the hotels that people mentioned are great. The Palmer House is also very nice but still south of the main North Michigan Ave stuff but again, the busses are great. There is also a Westin across from the John Hancock and very close to the North Michigan stuff.

Thanks so much for everyone's help! You guys are great! We were going to visit the museums, Navy Pier, and go shopping. I'm getting the impression these are not going to be close together, so would you recommend hotels by shopping or by the museums?
Thanks again!

DOUBLE POST..SORRY!!!

On Fathers Day, my DW surprised me with a train trip Chicago and we stayed at the Weston in a room that overlooked the River. It was a great location for sightseeing and she got a great deal on it through hotwire.com .

I hope you have as nice a time as we did .

Does anyone know anything about the Radisson? They are offering a stay 2 nights get the 3rd free special on Expedia.
Thanks

We can't use Priceline because none of us are 21. Would it be better to wait until close to our check-in date to get better deals (on Expedia for example)? We are going the second week of March. I found good rates for the Wyndham Chicago, Doubletree Guest Suites Chicago, Millenium Knickerbocker and the Best Western Inn of Chicago. Which of these do you recommend?
Thanks :D
