We are coming into town July 2 through the July 4. I know it is suppose to be a busy weekend with the Taste of Chicago in town. We were thinking about doing one of the Firework cruises on July 2 at the Navy Pier. However I wondering if it is safe to walk from the Omni on Michigan Ave. (we recently changed hotels. We were staying at the sutton) at night? I'll have myself, my husband, kids age 6 and 8 plus my mother who is in average health. She is 50+. It appears the walk is about a mile long from some of the websites I've seen. I've looked to see but the water taxi is not running that late from what I can tell and there is no trolley that late. So we were going to try to hoof it. :goodvibes

You will be perfectly safe walking to Navy Pier. There will be a lot of extra police in the area due to the holiday. Just exercise the same precautions you would in any large city. Secure your valuables, be alert to your surroundings and don't engage panhandlers.

Keep in mind that the directions showing the walk to be about a mile are correct to the front of Navy Pier. It is huge and you could still have a good bit to walk once you get there. I might consider a taxi for one leg since it is going to be late for the kiddos.

We spent the weekend downtown last week and only took a cab once, it is a safe and fun city to walk in. Have fun!
