CHICAGO Distance Classic -- August 12, 2007

If anyone is still around, I have a question....

Are you all meeting at 11:00 to walk to Gino's?? Or are you meeting at Gino's at 11:00?? If you are meeting at the Hilton, let me know when and where. Things may change for me with getting down there a little earlier and if I can make it for lunch, I really want to.

Thanks in advance. I started packing and panicking last night. I really haven't trained this week because my foot was aching and I want to rest it. So Tuesday it was elliptical and today maybe the TM, that's it. May the pixie dust be with me on this race!!!

Jen, as I understand the plan is to meet at Ginos at 11 after attending the Expo that opens at 10.

This will be such fun to have a WISH Team presence at CDC!

Jen--We are getting into Chicago Saturday morning and heading straight to the Hilton to get checked in and then to the Expo. If you want, we can meet you and your family at the Hilton and then walk over to Gino's together. I'll be here until 4:00 tomorrow, so just post on the thread or PM me and let me know what you want to do.

Krista -That would be great. It looks like we are driving to somewhere between Madison and Rockford, IL Friday night. That means we can get into Chicago earlier. Are you planning park at the Hilton or the Millenium parking ramp?

So do you think the walk is about 15 minutes? If we meet in the Hilton lobby at 10:45, does that sound good. It has been many years since I have been to the Hilton, but I remember the lobby being quite large. How about if we meet near the concierge desk (I am sure they have one). I have your cell number from the list, so I will call you if something happens to delay me.

Anyone else want to join us????

BTW Krista - I know how hard it is to find a decent kennel. We are very lucky that my parents LOVE Sadie and will be home to take care of her this weekend. Sadie thinks going there is a vacation!!!

Jen, according to Mapquest it is about 2 miles to Gino's, I'm thinking we need to allow a little more than 15 minutes! Hopefully the weather will cool off a little bit.

We've got a Sadie too. She is a black lab we adopted when she was about 3 yrs. Fortunately my kids are old enough to be our dogsitters when we are gone.

Jen--I have never been to Chicago before, so I'm not sure of the distance, but it doesn't look like a long walk to me. (I looked it up on Yahoo Maps this morning.) I was thinking of meeting at 10:45 as well and if we're a couple of minutes late, someone can just save our seats for us. :) I'll look for you and your beautiful family at the concierge desk at 10:45, I'll have my phone on, but the # on the CDC list is wrong, the last 4 digits of my phone # is really 4358. Stephen's # is correct and he'll have his phone on as well.

We are driving to Crestwood, IL tomorrow night (TOMORROW!!!!), I think that is a suburb of Chicago on the south eastern side, and then driving into downtown Saturday morning.

I am so excited to see everyone this weekend!!!!!

Hmmm, maybe we can meet at 10:15 or 10:20? I thought the Expo didn't open until 10:00, but I just checked the CDC website and it really opens at 9:00. I know we can make to the Expo and get our packets by 10:00, but is that too early for everyone else??

Oh, Jen, I forgot to answer one thing, I believe we are parking in the Hilton garage.

What is everyone doing about dinner? I've tried to find a really good "Chicago" restaurant for dinner, but I'm too overwhelmed!!! I just know that I'm NOT eating at Friday's or Applebee's or anything I can eat every single day in Cincinnati!!! :)

Hey guys--which Gino's are we meeting at 11:00am? There's one on the corner of Ontario and Wells and then there's one on East Superior St. Both of them look fairly close to each other (less than one mile apart), but I can just see half us us meeting at one and half at the other. The original is the one on East Superior just off of Michigan Avenue.

By Google Earth maps, it's about 1.6 miles from the Hilton to Gino's on East Superior. Are we really walking? I'm too lazy. Let's take a cab. ;)

Steve

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I'm not sure which one! I think I used the Gino's address that Lily posted....I printed the map out, but it is at home. We definitely all need to be headed to the same place!!

RE: the Hilton parking garage.....it is pretty pricey in comparison to nearby garages. Don't know if there is a price break if you are a hotel guest.

Wow! It is finally here! I am so excited:dance3: :dance3:

OK, good thing we are finally talking about Gino's so we can settle this before everyone gets there!:rotfl: Let's eat at the closest one!!!!! I can walk, not sure if the girls will like that but they will have to live with it. I guess I can always take a cab back to the Hilton.... and yes Steve, you can hop in with us!!!

Either way, I am aiming to be at the Hilton by 10:00am. I am also at work all day tomorrow, so I will watch here for any late breaking news!!! Maybe the concierge at the Hilton can send us in the right direction.

Pat - My Sadie is a Golden Retriever/running buddy. She will 8 in December and acts like she is 3. Even the vet is shocked at her spry-ness.

We also have a 3.5 yr old golden named Keeper. It is really fun to watch the dogs interact. Keeper can be kind of pesty and Sadie is so patient with her. Unfortunately Keeper has had medical issues since she was young, and can't run very much- she's had surgery on both her front legs and she is almost completely blind, so it is a challenge to take her places she is not familiar with. Sadie was already an adult when we got her and well, she pulls a lot when we take her to the forest preserve, and it takes all my strength to keep her under control. She also likes to smell everything, and not just smell, but savor the aromas, so she definitely doesn't maintain a steady pace!! So, if I am out on a walk for my sake I have to leave the dogs at home. If I take them with it is for their sake and not for my training! Doesn't matter though - they are without a doubt two of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet!

I know some of you are leaving tomorrow and might not be around for the weekend events thread so....

:woohoo: Good luck and have a great time!!:woohoo:

I'll be thinking of you all. Take lots of pictures! :thumbsup2

Glad I popped in! The one on East Superior looks closest to me. It's almost due north of our hoel and a little further cout than the other. Let's plan on that!

I just mapquested it.
The address is 162 E. Superior Street
From the Hilton at 720 S. Michigan Avenue--
You go north on S. Michigan Avenue for 1.5 miles
Make a right on East Superior and it is right there.

I will probably be picking up my packet tomorrow, with my dh.

I will meet you all at the gino's on east superior. Save me 2 seats, I will have my ds3 with me.

To all of you traveling tomorrow/sat, WISHing you safe travel.

See you at lunch,
Maggie

GOOD LUCK, WISH TEAM !

:cheer2:  :woohoo: :cheer2:

We'll be thinking about you!

We would love to meet up at the Hilton to walk over to Gino's. I've only been to Chicago once so I don't want to get lost ;)

Krista...sorry the phone number was messed up :guilty:

Don't know if anyone has made plans for dinner on Sat, but we're certainly up for anything!

Mel-Don't worry about the phone #, it was Stephen's fault! Have a good flight!!!!

Got my garmin charging, batteries for the camera charging, all my WISH gear in one spot - I am READY!!
