Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

Bullpen does it again. Wow, just wow. Rondon? Why is this guy pitching in the 9th when we have one of the best closers in the game? Maddon, you'll pitch Chapman for 3 innings but you won't pitch Davis for 1 inning because he's tired, what?????????????????
Davis coming off injury and you don't risk that in early May vs the World Series. Especially when we are in first and on a dead bullpen as it is. Also, bullpen has more saves then losses...been doing great. If you're gonna put the game only on pitches, I have a few that were called on Zobie and KB that change the whole game

ETA: Duensing had a great outing as well as Pedro

Meh. He was one freaking strike away from putting the game away.

I like Castro, but where was that outta the box hustle when he was a Cub? That's one of the reason's he was the one traded, got lazy lol. Guess just missing getting the ring is a bit of a motivator to help your current team. He was still a little squirrely on the bases.

Perhaps Maddon shouldn't have used Davis in G2 against the Phillies when they were up 5.

lol...then you would have been ranting if anything went wrong in that game.Yeah, Maddon could predict Thursday's 13 inning game on Tuesday..while still coordinating him for NYY and the Rockies :rolleyes2 Hindsight's a wonderful thing isn't it? Look at it this way, now he's available for YOU to see if we are in a save on Sunday. If Monty was available today, good chance that left arm would've gone in anyway against Gardner after the 2 base runners, not Davis. I honestly think today was our most solid shot the W but I never count this team out. Ever. We simply got handed a smack of what we usually do...come back and win.
ETA: Not to mention needing more than 2 runs..while the world is livid at Hector, we really should have connected , a lot more.

Well, if Maddon had put someone else in during the 9th in that 8-3 game and they gave up 2 or 3 runs, Maddon could have then gone to Davis. He didn't have to go to him up 5. So if Maddon would have done the traditional thing there, no, I wouldn't have been mad at him. But when managers try to get cute and be creative, that's great when it works out, but they need to be prepared to take some heat when it goes awry. I think you'll agree with me on that.

The more I think about today's loss, the less mad I become at Rondon (mainly because I know what he is and it's not a closer), and the more mad I become at Maddon. Why couldn't he have gone to Edwards in the 9th? Rondon lost the closer's role last year for poor performance and forced Theo to trade for someone who he could trust.

And if Maddon had put in someone in that 8-3 game and they had blown the game, then you would've been complaining about how he was so stupid and blew the game. Do you KNOW if any of the pitchers said to Maddon or the pitching coach that they pulled something or something didn't feel right or what other factors/considerations went into them choosing one person over another? I used to pitch and sometimes your arm just doesn't feel right. Most (not all, but most) coaches like when you say something so they know it's not a good time to put you in. When you know the end result, it's easy to second guess, but as fin said...it's a game of inches. A strikeout vs. a home run...inches. It seems unless we win every game, it seems like some will try to find a scapegoat. So...I think I've figured out....if we win, read the board. If we lose, don't read your posts because inevitably, it will be how someone was stupid or wrong and while I value differing opinions, the incessant rants about this person or that one are REALLY old. It's the same thing I said about the Seattle superbowl a couple years ago. If the pass had worked, people would've thought it was a brilliant call because everyone was expecting run. Because it didn't work, everyone was saying what an idiotic call it was. Hindsight is 20-20. Foresight, not as easy.

Now, having said that...I did get frustrated with Chap in game 7. I was literally yelling at the TV..."I know you have a good fastball, but if that's all the batters see...they WILL catch up to it. Throw a stinking slider or changeup or SOMETHING ELSE". And I was saying that BEFORE the homerun. Again, as a former pitcher, no matter how good your number 1 pitch is, you have to have other pitches to keep the batters off balance or guessing. If a batter keeps seeing your fastball, eventually they will get the timing right and then what happened happens. Talk about a heartbeat monitor AND blood pressure monitor. I was so mad...I thought for sure he'd lost it for us (and almost did).

OK...first off, sadly ANOTHER death in CJ's family..he isn't on bereavement but could have factored in. You know you have Anderson today who will most likely need bailing out. I know win today first then worry about tomorrow, just saying CJ may not have been an option.

YOU WIN AS A TEAM, YOU LOSE AS A TEAM ~ bur since blame appears to help get thru frustration, here goes.

To point out the obvious~You're blaming Rondon and Maddon for something the offense is more responsible for. Going into the game the team KNOWS we have no bullpen, no closer. Putting up 2 runs against the NYY doesn't win you the game. Especially the way they have been hitting homers and like the Cubs, putting up huge come back success. Our pitching was awesome keeping the ball in the park. Judge was practically foaming at the mouth up to bat 'cause he thought he was sending it into Lake Michigan. Gardner knew as soon as he connected it was gone. Our defense kept us in the game, but the offense has to win it. You have to get them on, get them moving, get them home. Their pitcher was decent but nothing we shouldn't have been able to hit off of more. Yeah, we homered twice. We also couldn't get Willy in which was crucial. We had the element of an unfamiliar park (for a good portion of the guys) I know Rothschild was here under Dusty so he knew what to do~but now that element of surprise is gone and the bats have to show up today, no doubt. The winds will be 10-15 today, will have to see what direction at game time. Facing a lefty pitcher, so Riz, JHey tougher day ahead. Addie connecting on Chapman was one of the highlights of the game to me yesterday..he is right on the verge of a breakout and today would be the day for it to happen. Everybody ragging to put #12 in the 4 spot and I looked for it myself, but you can't put 2 lefties back to back. Zobie a switch -hitter and has actually been more successful R this season than L. Rizzo needs to find a way to break out too . Opposing pitchers have our guys figured out and lucky us, Joe West in this series..I believe he will be Umping the Dish tomorrow for Lester. Like I posted the other day...

No you clearly don't. Your last few posts seem to be directed at me, bordering on insulting. You can rant and rave all you want, I will continue to post how I want. If you find my posts "really old," the solution is obvious, please add me to your ignore list.

So no Schwarb's(expecting to see him, Szczur PH)or JHey ~stacked the lineup with righties for obv reasons but the line up but his defense is going to be missed. Wind blowing pretty similar to yesterday at the moment so maybe Joe figures anything hit up to RF going out anyway, lol. Everyone who wanted Zobie as LO is gong to see it tonight. Kewz, gotta stop hating on him...he needs full fandom!
