Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

FWIW, the Indians are also 12-10. I'm not worried.
folks gotta just get back to enjoying watching the Cubs play...the game of THAT day~last time I checked no one's life was going to change a whole lot based on a W or L. Enjoy the ride, people!

Ha can't do it. I need the repeat as we get bragging rights for life.

Can't do it? Sad....that your driving force is bragging rights over enjoying the great game of baseball. We HAVE bragging rights right now...NO ONE can ever take the WS away from the Cub's, and I don't recall any other team having fans all over the WORLD rooting them on. Our record was stellar. Greatest game 7 ever played and we won. I think we're good on bragging rights. Maybe start your own thread for Bragger's as this is one for actual fan's  Honestly Paco, you asked if I ever get mad at them, are you ever NOT mad at them? No matter...all fans welcome here, but looking half full is always appreciated. :hippie:

Of course, there are lots of times when I'm not mad at them. Typically when they play well, I'm pleased. If they play poorly, which they have been, I will call them out.

As for bragging rights, not really, it's a new season. We had bragging rights last season and the offseason. Every season, a new team will win the WS. So us winning last year was so awesome but that's over now and a new champion will be crowned. If it's the Cubs, that would be amazing. Repeats are basically impossible to achieve in baseball. Cardinals have certainly never done it so we'd get to rub it in their faces for all of eternity and they will hate us for it. I really want that.

As for starting a new thread, the title of this thread is "DEFEND." That means repeat, yes? So that's what I'm aiming for. If you want to enjoy the single game victories, awesome. I will too. But the objective here is to repeat and defend.

And there you go...W.....That cemented this road trip a a winning one :thumbsup2

We never Quit.. I will "Defend" my team to the end.

I'm going to enjoy Miggy's tying HR today lol....he's in the zone :D

These Cubs players need to realize that they don't get a free pass into the playoffs just because of last season.

I've bitten my tongue a few times now...it seems to me as if you have nothing positive to say about the Cubs and are not happy unless they win every game. Is that a correct assessment? It's a game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I'm happy when they win, disappointed when they lose, but I don't know that ragging on them every time they lose is beneficial to anyone.

They are human beings...they are not machines. Have you never had a horrible day at work where nothing seemed to go right? Well guess what? This is their job and they are human and they can have a bad day just like anyone else. Yes, Jake had a horrible 1st inning. He recovered and in my mind, that's the mark of a professional and a good person...pick yourself, dust yourself off and come back stronger. They're my team and I will root for them to win, but NO team nor person is perfect.

I've said many positive things about the Cubs

and are not happy unless they win every game. Is that a correct assessment?

No it isn't

It's a game.

True

It's beneficial to me. I like to vent when they play bad. If they play well and lose, I tip my cap to the other team. Lately, they've been playing poorly and I've been calling them out for that.

If I had 3 horrible days for several consecutive weeks, I'd probably be out of a job.

Yes, Jake had a horrible 1st inning. He recovered and in my mind, that's the mark of a professional and a good person...pick yourself, dust yourself off and come back stronger.

Jake has had many bad innings thus far

They're my team and I will root for them to win, but NO team nor person is perfect.

Who said I wasn't rooting for them? I watch 90% of their games and I'm usually here posting so I'm clearly rooting for them. If someone is upset about them losing, all that means is that they care.

nice article on Miggy, a good read for many :rolleyes1...and Lackey cracks me up..Big John, you are a surly one. Maddon knows~

John Lackey exchanges some heated words with home-plate umpire Bill Welke while arguing balls and strikes

BOSTON -- Before Saturday's game, Cubs manager Joe Maddon was talking about how important it was for players to avoid getting angry. Getting frustrated is understandable, but Maddon didn't want to see them mad.

Then there's John Lackey.

Full Game Coverage
"You've probably got me there," Maddon said when reminded of his comments after Saturday's 7-4 win over the Red Sox. "Johnny definitely orbits in a different manner. He's always been that guy. I've known him since 2001, and back in the day, I was a bench coach and I was able to go out and have a beer with him and settle him down."

Catcher Miguel Montero had that responsibility in Saturday's game, which marked Lackey's return to Fenway Park. The former Red Sox pitcher picked up the win, but not without an argument. In the first inning, he was not happy with some of the calls by home-plate umpire Bill Welke and told him so as he walked off the field.

"Did you call that in?" Lackey asked Welke about a pitch to Mookie Betts.

Welke confirmed he did.

"Then you missed it," Lackey said.

Montero could tell the right-hander wasn't happy.

"I just told the umpire, 'I'll take care of it,'" Montero said. "The last thing I wanted to do was get a little retaliation there. I told [Lackey], 'Just keep throwing it there, because he's going to call it eventually. They're strikes, and he'll start calling it,' and he did."

Lackey lasted six innings, and he has gone that far in each of his first five starts this year, the second time in his career he's done so (also 2008 with the Angels).

This wasn't an emotional return to Boston for Lackey. He's changed teams more than Jon Lester, for example, who grew up in the Red Sox's organization. What was new on Saturday was Boston knuckleballer Steve Wright, who baffled the Cubs' hitters.

"The ball goes in to you or away from you or down or stays up," Montero said. "I told the umpire, 'I'm going to close my eyes and swing hard in case I hit it.'"

Montero's game-tying solo shot
Miguel Montero crushes a solo home run over the wall in right field, tying the game at 4 in the top of the 7th inning
Did Montero close his eyes when he homered in the Cubs' seventh, tying the game at 4?

"No," he said.

"Montero is a good fastball hitter," Boston manager John Farrell said. "Knuckleball stays up, and it floats out of here with the wind blowing out to right. He got it good, but that ties it up."

Anthony Rizzo also homered off Wright with a two-run shot in the fourth.

"I said, 'Tip my hat to everyone who hit [Wright] today,'" Kyle Schwarber said. "It's some funky stuff."

Hey all, Our Cubs are in first place and are playing in an awesome historical park and just became very quick learners of the knuckleball so they can add that to their skill set.
CUB LIFE IS GOOD

Hey Kewz...not sure if you got your jersey yet but your guy Zobie homered over the Green Monster, we got the W...good weekend to do a little shopping, just sayin' :thumbsup2

Same here. The way I look at it - even the best team is going to lose 60-65 games (yes, the Cubs only lost 58 last year, but how often do teams win 103 games?), and so far this year, the Cubs have only lost one series. I will concede though, that I would like to see a nice long win streak. ;)

I know! I was so happy to actually see it and not just watch the replay.

I haven't ordered one yet. I keep going back and forth between Zobrist and Champs. Decisions, decisions!!

Solution: Home and Away jerseys, Home is pinstripe Zobie, Away is Blue Champs since we won on an away game. Your wardrobe is covered for home and away game viewing, lol.

In his last 8 games, Miguel Montero is 13-for-22 (.591) with two homers, one double and three RBI.
ESPN apparently didn't bother to check that and include other batters in their opening spiel. This is why I listen to Pat and Ron when ESPN gets the games.
Here's hoping our lefty batter's connect tonight.
