Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

The pictures of Wrigley remind me a lot of Fenway Park. I know they were built around the same time, but does anyone know if they shared a similar design? (I can look it up, too.)

Other than being squeezed into relatively small plots of land, I don't think the stadiums were ever remotely similar. Even old photos from way back when show they were quite different. After relatively recent trips to both, I think Fenway works better than Wrigley.

I wasn't able to watch the game last night and from the sounds of it that was a good thing...

Win or lose though I'm still a fan and proud of what they have accomplished this season. :thumbsup2

Red Socks

on the road at Yankee Stadium 2004

take the World Series with a 0-3 deficit

Lets have another Theo moment (nvm that Francona was managing the Reds, lol)
It was an 0-3 deficit in the ALCS, not the World Series. The Sox swept the Cards in the World Series following that historic comeback.

It's "Do or Die" for the Cubs tonite.

I hope they win for the diehards. I admit, I'm not one of those. I have my doubts. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

Good luck Cubs fans! It can be done! (Says a Royals fan from long before the 1985 series) :cheer2:

Wow! This game was a bit emotional for me. Soooo very happy we got the W!!!

Glad we won but it's hard to stomach knowing that we have to pay Heyward roughly $160 million for the next 7 years. The other thing that's hard to stomach is watching Baez at the plate. Is anyone trying to help this kid? He swings at everything the pitcher throws.

Heyward was great last night. As for Baez, yep, he's swinging at everything about a foot away from the end of his bat. But I think all the team was nervous as heck. Compare the Major League experience of the Cub players to that of the Indians. Big difference. Some of the Cubs only started shaving two years ago. Napoli, Davis, Santana were probably already playing major league ball when our kids were still in elementary school. And when the last World Series appearance was 71 years ago with the last WS win 108 years ago, nerves were getting to them. They really needed this win. Hope it carries them through the next two games in Cleveland.

Just when a person thinks their team is "pathetic", and there's no way they are going to win another ballgame again, they prove you wrong. Frustration can make you use words that later, you want to take back. I watched last night's game expecting them to lose, and they find a way to win. I am a flawed Cubs fan. I guess being a fan since the mid 60's has tainted my soul. These men are human. So am I. I will be on the edge of my seat again as they play game 6 in Cleveland. I applaud the diehards who never give up hope. Victory will always be much sweeter for them.

you unhappy with that $160 million dollar catch against the wall last night that literally changed the momentum in the game? I'll give him a bonus. Even Bauer gave JHey props for that catch. Javy reverting to his old ways but some improvement. What hurts with Javy is he is a way better player than this, he knows it,we all know it. That bunt was a beautiful site. Joe , man...not letting Francona get his wish of pulling Chapman, incredible,

My DS and I met a gentleman and his wife on the train heading to Wrigley yesterday. He is 94 and was at the '45 World Series game between the Cubs and Detroit. He tried to get tix but there were none. He was on leave from the Navy and in his uniform, and there were other servicemen at the park (from various branches) who had also come down hoping to get a ticket. He said they sort of grouped together to talk and an Andy Frain usher came over and asked if they were there to see the game.. Ulysses(man on train) said yeah, but no tickets. The Andy Frain said, "You guys don't need tickets. Follow Me" and they saw the game. He could remember just about every detail, the pitchers, plays, all of it. He knew William "Billy Goat" Sianis , said because they were both Greek and Ulysses could speak Greek they formed a friendship . Reminded us of how William adopted the goat after it fell off a truck and wandered into the tavern. Ulysses son took him to the World Series game 3 (Friday). He was interviewed outside by Ronnies statue. I showed him a picture I took of my DS from same game right in front of Ronnie..we smiled. Our train was delayed about 40 minutes yesterday and I have never been happier to have been stuck on the tracks. Ulysses and his wife were headed to the Symphony yesterday, we wished them well, thanked them for the wonderful conversation, stories and his service to our country. We shook hands, said GO CUBS and that for my son and I , we just got our W right there, meeting him. For my DS and I Ulysses was the missing puzzle piece for a W at Wrigley. Puzzle is filled in. DS wrote a message thanking him and honoring him on Wrigley's wall before the game, he deserved it. Unlike Ulysses DS and I did not obtain tickets. That's just fine with us. We had a plan on how we wanted to experience Game 5. We watched/listened street rat style on Waveland. I had my little a.m. radio listening to Pat and Ron in one ear and the crowd/Walk Ups / Gary Pressy with the other and watching the scoreboard thru the back of the bleachers. 2 of the rooftops put tv's in the front. The Firehouse was awesome and fed hundreds with free hot dogs. We used the empty Program Boxes and had our own "box seats" lol.(I was too lazy to lug bag chairs thru train and El) Many had their phones trying to watch but they delay, hiccups etc was frustrating for many. My old school radio was only 2 seconds off real time so I would call the game out, made quite a few friends last night. My DS and I had one of the best days of our life together. We cheered we cried. My DH had to stay home still recovering from bronchitis that hit the day we took the pennant. I knew Robin was just inside the wall from me in her seats having the time of her life. I could have thrown a baseball to her if I had Heyward's arm, lol. What a day yesterday, WHAT A DAY!
