Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

I am at the moment rooting for LA too. It could change if there’s a compelling in-series storyline. I just feel like I know the NL better in general, and Kardashians and some bad LA fans aside, they have a good franchise and this is their 11th (!) Playoff trip since 1988. I have a young coworker from LA who is so needing them to win too, after multiple years of disappointments for him.
We wouldn't know ANYTHING about that! :lmao:

lol...like my DS says...any team can beat any team, any time. Cubs homered off Jansen to win in April.
Hey wait, I'm older than your DS...he stole my line. :lmao:

Actually, I can laugh about it, but I've been saying that for years and pretty sure I've said it on this board at least once. This is more true in baseball than any other game, but then again the Dolphins beat the Falcons, so it happens in them all. Actually, with regards to the Phins, I'm not sure if I should be happy or should consider this a sign of the apocalypse.

:sad2: my Dolphin's....sigh. Someone asked me a ways back my thoughts on Cutler. I said I thouhgt he woudl do better than with the Bears as he was with Gase again, but I also said he's be hurt so it wasn't really gonna matter . He got his 10 million, his ribs will heal. Fin's have not done very well when I get them on tv, (and have yet to win in Baltimore) but hey, nothing say W like hiring an unemployed QB ESP with the last name "Fales" to back your second stringer:rotfl:

so it's true...Girardi will NOT be back with the NYY's. Looks like Martinez just got some heavier competition for the Nat's job. Girardi has passsed on that offerin the past tho :scratchin

I've always liked Girardi. It sounds like he may not want to be a manager any longer:

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/21166583/joe-girardi-not-returning-manager-new-york-yankees

After the Yankees lost in the ALCS, Girardi professed his love for managing but said he would once again discuss his situation with his wife and three children, asking them what they thought was best for their family. He has expressed similar sentiments on previous occasions when his contract was up but has always returned to the team.

Girardi has had aspirations to work in baseball operations, possibly in the commissioner's office. He also could return to broadcasting. Girardi also has a passion for college football, and while he has said it is a long shot, he's spoken about serving as an athletic director.

I usually don't pay a lot of attention to what other teams do with their managers. It seems odd to me that 2 managers from the top 8 teams will not be returning to their teams. If that usual to have that much managerial movement at the top?

Given the article about the guy in the back telling Joe to ask for a review, I can only presume the other clubs have the same type of thing. So Girardi not asking for the review is really to be blamed on Girardi or the people behind the scenes? That's one thing that really bugs me about "fans"...always looking for a scapegoat.

This day and age of instant criticism via Twitter,Instagram, FB etc. causes a lot of reaction I think. The Dusty situation ..I thought he was offered a 2 year extension about a week or so before the playoffs but for whatever reason didn't pull the trigger. Whoever DOES take the Nat's job has to know it's a temp gig one way or the other. Girardi is a semi surprise. Seeing the fan's rip into him like that was brutal and seeing his team rally around him was great but NYY aren't about feel good stories. I htink the team will suffer some without him. There was a great bond between him and the players. Watch them interview A-ROD :rotfl2:

ALL KIDDING ASIDE, Girardi is a Cub fan...and if '18 doesn't go the way Theo would like, I could see a call going to Girardi's house. He will probably take time off mostly due to lack of options out there for him. Lord help whoever the Yankee's choose if they don't make it to the WS next year.

WOWZA...Cubs are really cleaning house~

Mellee & Jonesy out ~hitting coach John Mallee's contract was not renewed. No update re: pitching coach

name Chili Davis hitting coach, Brian Butterfield 3rd base coach, Andy Haines assisstant hitting coach

getting to the NLCS 3 in a row with 1 W.S is not Theo's goal, clearly.

he is keeping his Boston ties

Just popped up on my phone ...

Chili Davis is our new hitting coach and Brian Butterfield is the new 3rd base coach. I'm going to miss seeing Gary Jones at 3rd.

yep...it appears the likeable personality is taking a back seat. Theo's circle of trust, Joes preferences...this off season is hopping

I'm excited to get a new hitting coach in. I'd like to see some adjustments in the way our players hit. They need to be less of of a swing-for-the-fences-one-trick-pony.

definitely. What I posted above, about Girardi being available? If these changes do not produce, you will see Joe as the next one in the breaking news. Theo stated Joe will have "whoever he wants" at his helm. By giving him carte blanche , if things do not get solid and consistent~ who do YOU think Theo is going to point to?

Maybe they came as a pair?
absolutely. They also qualify under Theo's Circle of Trust (see above)

this tells me Theo's pet project of Schwarb's is safe for at least the first half of the season. Prob AAJ/Javy/JHey too unless a pitcing deal is too good to pass up. If those 3 do not respond to the puitching coach all bets are off.

Shut your mouth! Theo will not fire Joe.

Do I want it to happen? Nope...but go back and read your own post about Managers being let go. Apparently making it to the NLCS doesn't validate anything. Theo will give it all season..but if we don't improve? Theo will not be complacent. Not moving foreward is failure to him. The Cubs are his "not making the same mistakes as Boston" project. He has a heart tho, so hopefully that stays in the mix. That said, he just created the combo powerhouse of Boston/Cubs (and isn't finished yet) I posted earlier about Benintendi...seems a bit more likely now..but for who is the question

That is what I love about Rizzo. Once he gets two strikes, chokes up (a LOT) and just tries to put the ball into play somewhere. I know the HR is more sexy to a lot of folks (hope I don't get banned for that word), but trying to hit HRs all the time results in a LOT of strikeouts or popcorn flys also. I like Schwarbs a lot, but that's what killed his average this year. Fundamental baseball...get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in!

Same thing I used to get so frustrated with Ryan Klesko of the braves for...he was constantly swinging for the fence and struck out WAY more often than HR.
