I remember seeing something somewhere regarding Disneyworld having these life size Mickey or Minnie statues that will be decorated by various celebrities. It will be similar to what Chicago did with the life size cows (by the way....these were unbelievable)....anyway...can someone help by knowing where to check this out. I don't remember what park they were to go in...but I believe they would be there sometime in October.

I was told by Disney's mail answering service that something was in the works for December to replace the missing Osborn lights....has anyone heard anymore about that?

I suppose I should wait until after the October Food Festival but I'm so looking forward to a December visit that I just can't wait to find out more. Thanks.

I remembered reading a similar thread several weeks ago--so I did a quick search. I copied the following from a previous thread . . . hope this is the information that you are looking for.

Mickey Mouse Statues - decorated by celebrities
This is from a Minneapolis paper, hence the Minnesota reference in the article. Thought it was interesting though. I know the Charlie Brown character figurines are sure fun to look at here.

It does state that there is a news conference set for today. Maybe there will be something more concrete soon about what we can expect to see.

Randi and Hart Johnson, the St. Paul sister-brother design tandem behind four summers' worth of "Peanuts" sculptures, are going to Disney World.

At a news conference scheduled for today in Los Angeles, the Johnsons will join Walt Disney Productions CEO Michael Eisner and comedian Drew Carey as they unveil the first of 75 6-foot polyurethane Mickey Mouse statues slated to pop up in November to honor the lovable rodent's 75th anniversary.

The first sculpture is expected to go on display at Disney World in Orlando on Nov. 18, the anniversary of Mickey's debut in 1928. The sculptures will resemble the Snoopys, Charlie Browns, Lucys and Linuses that have dotted St. Paul street corners the last four summers as a tribute to the late hometown cartoonist Charles Schulz.

The Mickey Mouse figures will be created at Tivoli Too, the Johnsons' sculpture and design studio on Ford Parkway in St. Paul. Celebrities, including Carey and actor John Travolta, will decorate the figures.

The Johnsons befriended Schulz and his family before his death in 2000 and won their blessing for the public arts tribute, modeled after a Chicago display of cows.

The Mickeys are expected to go on display at Disney properties, but more specifics won't be available until today.

"We're pretty excited about it," said Hart Johnson, Tivoli Too's vice president, speaking Tuesday from L.A. "The Disney people have been working on this for a couple months, but we were ordered not to say a word."

:D

kverna - Thanks so much for the exact information I was looking for. I just knew that this site would come up with the answer...I just didn't know it would be so fast. You are great....thanks!

I imagine this will be some photo opportunities also. Can't wait...

c4241-- I agree with you--there will be some great photo opportunities! I am just sad that I will miss it! My family will be at WDW from Nov. 11-14.

Oh well! I am just happy to be going! :bounce:

just wanted to mention that there hasn't been anything else about them in the Minneapolis paper (which probably would run a story since the sculpture studio that did them is in St. Paul).
Also, the Peanuts character sculptures are great, so I'm expecting good things from the Mickeys and Minnies. After being on display all summer in St. Paul, the Peanuts sculptures go on auction for charity. So far, they have had Charlie brown, Snoopy, Lucy and this year it is Linus. My DD's dance teacher has a Snoopy and Woodstock displayed in her dance studio. She got the company to make her an extra bird ("Winnie") molded in a seated position so that Winnie can sit in a wheelchair (she teaches children and adults of all abilities and disabilities).
PS. If this works right (I'm not sure since it's a popup window), here's a link to some of the Snoopy figures.

Sue - thanks for your post....I loved the photos of Snoopy....makes me even more excited to see what can be done with Mickey and Minnie.
I know that I read the original article about them on some Disney site while surfing one night....so the news via Minneapolis was the second info about this upcoming project. I remember reading that Drew Carey was going to be doing the first ??? "statue"..... I suppose it will be somewhat difficult knowing that it has to be out in the Florida weather/temps. Maybe that's why it's scheduled for the winter-time.
Thanks again...and if anyone comes across the "Disney" page please post it here.

I loved the link to the Snoopy's. They were great. I clicked on "Production Stuff" and got to see a couple Lucy's and Charlie Brown's too. Panama City had "Dolphin Splash" around town. Local artists decorated over 50 dophin statues. Some were unreal. Check them out here:
Dolphin Splash- Panama City, FL

We are going down to WDW on Nov 26. So hopefully all the Mickey's & Minnie's will be out. That is great. I can't wait to see them :D

Hi....being kinda new here I'm wondering if above person could let me know how to get the "countdown" graphic on your messages? Thanks. If you want to do it in a personal email that would be fine too.

i wouldn't worry about the Mickey and Minnie sculptures being out in the Florida weather. Some of the original Snoopy ones are still outside in St. Paul and we are not exactly in the "good weather" belt of the US.
If you want to see more, here's a link to the "Linus Blankets St. Paul" site for this years' statues. That should give some more idea of how cool the Mickeys and Minnies will be.
