It took Alex a while before he would put his head underwater. Now I can't get him to swim above the water line so I can see him.

Alex's World Fair went well. I hope he gets a good grade on it. Do you know he has to do a powerpoint presentation? This is 6th grade people. Oh speaking of 6th grade good thing I don't have a girl. All I have to say is were is the school dress code  Ok back now to my little rock.:rotfl:

I went over to Kohl's and Target. I really need to stay away from those stores when I have time to myself. Can you say CLEARANCE. Good thing I was starting to get hungry or I really would have gone overbudget.

Why do so many young girls dress the way they do?? :confused3
Lack of parental authority is the answer!!!
The 'let's be friends' moms who let the girls wear what ever they like!!! :sad2:

I have been to Target 3 times in the past week!!!!
Sshhhhh.....don't tell on me!! :rolleyes1

I could have wrapped them in duct tape to cover the parts they forgot to cover :rotfl2:

OK I see we are all really busy today.:rotfl2:
Those clothes for tweens are atrocious (sp?). I can't even imagine someone letting their 8-12 year olds wear them. And it is harder than ever to find them something decent that they will wear.
I go to the Lighthouse Mall in Mich. City and check out OshKosh. There are still some things DD can wear from there.
My problem with Target and Wal-Mart is the waist size for my DD. She needs a 7 length, but only about a 5 waist. And I am not handy with a needle and thread of any kind.
Thank heavens for these new adjustable waist things.
I did find some jeans on sale at Kohls yesterday that fit her nice. Hate to have to buy winter clothes at this time of year, but both kids were waiting for the flood with their pants from Christmas. Can I put a brick on their heads til spring?

Putting bricks on heads is definitely a no no. I was thinking about the duct tape thing kind of like what they did in China to the women's feet so they stay small though.

And for the record I do have plenty of work I don't want to do. I took the day off from my reqular work to do work at home. Am I crazy NO don't answer that.

.

in the school district where i live, my kids starting doing computer classes in the first grade. power point presentations start in the 4th grade here.

i thought all the schools used the computers at all levels.

in kindergarten, they only use the computer for the alphabet in a game to instill more interest. we have all day kindergarten in zion.

carmen, rosemarie, chrissy, hope you all start to feel better soon.

lets see what else did i miss.........i know life insurance, think bunchkin brought it up. we cancelled all of our life insurance policies. we paid off the house and cars and then cancelled the policies.

yes, watch AI tonight.
i love watching that show.
i really enjoy simon and his comments............taylor hicks was on tv with larry king some weeks back. taylor's one comment that stuck with me was he was gratful of how simon critiqued everyone. taylor said you hear more of the negative than the positive when you are in the music business.

Mac I like Simon too. Alot of people at work think he is to cruel, but I supect the music business alot more cruel.

 again All!!! Another quick fly by from me as DH showers before he heads to work at 11:30. :guilty: SOMEthing is headed our way.
Do you know he has to do a powerpoint presentation? This is 6th grade people.
Kelly finished her powerpoint presentation for the academic fair at school. ;) She's in 3RD grade.

Thank heavens for these new adjustable waist things.
We have several of those for DD. The Children's Place also sells slim sizes, which fit DD well. She also grows taller faster than she grows 'wider'? :confused3 I envy her.:rolleyes1

Well, I hope we all survive whatever it is that's coming, weather-wise. Happy Friday all!! :woohoo:

Clothing is where DD's back brace comes in handy. :lmao: Although, then when she has it off for gym during lunch, people comment that her jeans are WAY too big on her. To which she tells her "I know", they ask why she doesn't buy smaller jeans and she answers with "I can't". Does make it basically impossible for her to wear anything too revealing & even if she did, she has a very long t-shirt on under the brace to keep it from rubbing on her skin.

I really think the kids at her school are probably completely baffled by her at this point. :rotfl2: Her jeans fit fine in the morning, are huge at lunch & then fit fine later but she has also been known to stroll into math late (probably on more than 1 occassion). Then she tells them that maybe she has abs of steel when they ask.

As for the Powerpoint I was discussing this with DH a few months back. One of the new this year items on DD's school supply list was a flashdrive! :scared1: It did say it was optional. Last year it was floppy disks. DH went ahead and got her one. She was working on a project earlier in the year and said something about she needed to finish her presentation which had to be done in Powerpoint, so it was on her flashdrive. She has a computer & this is how we got talking that it's almost a necessity for their to be a computer in the house to go to school now. I feel like we are going to have to get the boys one as soon as they hit middle school *just* to be able to do homework! I can't even imagine what someone who doesn't have one does. We just get lucky with the computers we have because of DH's work.

I asked her what would happen if you didn't have the flashdrive (since it was optional), etc... After seeing how much she uses it for all the presentations, etc... I really think it would be a determinent if she didn't have it.

We did this year also get DD's math book & social studies book on CD. That has come in real handy -- she doesn't have to carry her books back & forth for those classes.

Well, I hope we all survive whatever it is that's coming, weather-wise. Happy Friday all!! :woohoo:

WAIT...there is something coming weather wise again? Oh crud, now I have to go look up the weather stuff & I was planning on going to bed seeing how it's nearly midnight!

DD has her play tomorrow night. It's the night with lots of people coming, grandparents, friends, our entire family. Saturday is just me showing up again.

Geez, what am I, 100 years old??? :rotfl: Textbooks on CD?? Crazy! And I've never even learned to use Powerpoint! At 33, I feel so old. :rotfl2:

I GUESS there's something coming or DH wouldn't have been called in at this hour BUT, he has sometimes been called in just to sit and watch the weather channel.....waiting...... :confused3

Relax Leigh, I'm 44 and Powerpoint is foreign to me!! :rotfl: Forget the "old" part! Here's a young-to-old comparison I didn't realize until a couple weeks ago too - DD was AMAZED and THRILLED by the TYPEWRITER in my office! She had NEVER seen one and, she was sooo excited! It corrects mistakes, blah, blah, blah. It NEVER occured to me that my 9yo DD ONLY knows a computer keyboard and NOT a typewriter. Now, that tells you how OLD I AM!! :rolleyes1 Yikes, technology! ;)

Leigh I never knew what "flashdrive" was until this year. I didn't know what it looked like. Know I see it at the check out at Target now.

Geez did anyone else stay up last night because of the dratted wind?
Good thing Alex has no school today or I would have to load his pockets with rocks. I think I'll be save though I haven't needed slim anything for years.:rotfl:

First time I was done with all my work in weeks and I settle down to watch Grey's and it's a repeat  I hate that.

OK all I have to go a chug somemore coffee I so want to go back to bed.

Hey everyone.............

IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not doing anything exciting today - I'm just so glad it's Friday!!!!!

geffric - That mint chocolate chunk looks so yummy :goodvibes Your tempting me to want to go buy some.

HERSEY - How did the kids like the pancakes? I'm glad the Worlds Fair went well, and yes, many girls dress way in a way that make me do this:eek: :sad2:

Becky - A social worker is another person I'm starting to deal with at Stephanie's school. Last week she had an emotional break down in class during a movie they were watching that had music in it that my Grandma and her used to listen to. Her teacher sent her to the social worker (or as Steph said "the lady that makes you feel better when you are sad or you get in trouble). The social worker never sent a note home or a phone call to me about this - I thought this was wrong. If Stephanie never said anything, how would I have known? So I called the office and complained, but they didn't care, so I talked to one of the social workers, and she's going to look into it and get back to me. As I told her, if you need to see her that's fine, please do, but I would like to know what's going on - so we'll see what happens:rolleyes:

Sam - That's awesome about the sleds :) Last fall Kevin garbage picked a Playschool desk and workshop from the side of the road. You can sometimes find some great things on garbage day:thumbsup2

Tiggerrnnn - Were you successful in getting your son's room done?

Debbie - I bet kindergarten is a fun age to teach :teacher: Did you teach 1/2 day programs or a full day program?

Jedi - I'm so sorry you feel bad right before your trip:guilty: I would go to the doctor and see if they can give you an antibiotic - maybe you have a sinus infection. I'll send you loads of PD your way to feel better NOW!!!!:wizard:

Bunchkin - I should go get School of Rock for this weekend for us to watch, and then if Stephanie likes it, I can add it to her birthday list :)

Rosemarie - I'm so sorry to hear that both you and Chrissy are sick now:guilty: I sure hope you both feel better soon - sending you both lots of PD:wizard: :wizard:

macraven - Have you heard from your son in Mexico?

Kim - Kelly did a powerpoint presentation in 3rd grade - that makes me do this:scared1: Because I know nothing about it. I guess Stephanie will have to teach me or I will have to get Power Point for Dummines book

Leigh - Is there any new updates about your house?

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I gotta run and get the Princess out of bed and ready for school.:teacher:
Have a good day today everyone!!!!

good friday morning chgoland homies........

i heard the same as you heard here.........change in weather today/tomorrow and then the big one sometime next week.

yikes.....

got to get ready for work now.
hope everyone here stays healthy

Geez did anyone else stay up last night because of the dratted wind?
Good thing Alex has no school today or I would have to load his pockets with rocks.

Grumble, grumble, grumble -- yeah, me...first off go to bed around midnight. Not all *that* unusual but then 10 year old DS comes in and starts grumbling that he's scared because of all the noise the windows are making. I think that was about 4 AM or so. I grumpily yelled at him to go back to bed and I promised him if it was necessary (i.e. tornado or something), I would get him. Then he comes back a couple hours later? 6ish maybe? I don't know, at that point he got into bed to just snuggle with me -- I do think he fell back asleep for a bit (I know I did -- sort of -- he likes to stick his feet on me, so I don't usually get good sleep then, I hate being 'kicked'). It's going to be L-O-N-G day.

Becky - A social worker is another person I'm starting to deal with at Stephanie's school. Last week she had an emotional break down in class during a movie they were watching that had music in it that my Grandma and her used to listen to. :grouphug: poor Stephanie. I hope you have a nice one. I guess ours is doing her job but sometimes I wish my kids never had IEP's so some of the smaller stuff would fly under the radar a heck of a lot more. I honestly think it's because the have IEP's that they get scrutinized more than other kids. My oldest never had an IEP and the only time she ever saw the social worker was actually as the "model" child. I know I was asked if I would give permission when she was in 5th grade for her to go and play games with other kids, so they could learn appropriate responses to things. This was a different social worker than we have now and yes, I know DD was going as the positive influence, not as a veiled thing that she needed it. :rotfl:

It could just be a one time thing too, since I'm sure they had no idea why she got upset when the music played but once the social worker knew, then hopefully that's that.

Off to go wake up the kiddos because it doesn't say our school is closed. :rotfl: I didn't expect it too either though since it's just really windy but nothing on the ground. They have never closed for anything other than a blizzard.

My kids are using flashdrives too. We buy them on sale for $10 or less.. but they do their reports, save it to the flash drive and then turn it into the teacher's computer.. of course then there is the story about Geoff that did a whole report and saved it to the falsh drive and lost the drive and he hadn't saved it to the hard drive so he had to redo the paper.. lesson learned that one should save in both places

Rosemarie - how are you and Chrissy feeling today?

the wind is really kicking up her and the temp is dropping..:scared1: Mean Mom moment, I made both kids wear jackets to school today..

Leigh do you have a moving date?

Kim both my kids started power point in 3rd grade too. Now they make movies and put them on DVDs and bring those to school..

JEDi - how are you feeling?

Hi and happy Friday and stay warm to all I didn't say hi to individually

Back to work.. I'll stop by later..

Boy it is windy outside - I drove Stephanie to the bus stop today :drive: I didn't want to stand outside and watch her, and I didn't want her to get blown away from the bus stop:rotfl:

So, now Katie is watching a Clifford movie, and I need to venture into the shower. Katie and I are just staying home today. She woke up so early this morning, that I will need to put her down for an early nap today. Which will be a very quiet afternoon for me:thumbsup2

macraven - Have a good day at school today :teacher:

Becky - Thanks for the hugs for Stephanie. She is still heavily greiving the death of my Grandma and I wish there was more I could do. It's going to be one year on March 10th since my grandma's unexpected passing, and I originally was going to take her to the cemetary, but now I'm not going to. I decided it would be best to not put a date to it for her benefit.
**Was is IEP?

geffric - I had to chuckle about you being a mean mom. I was one too this morning - I made Stephanie zip up her coat and wear a hat :cold:

I wanted to let you know that I got a response back from Stephanie's gym teacher. Here it is....................................

In response to your e-mail message below: I understand the note is long, and the first time you receive it the wording may appear stern. I just wanted to let you know that it a standardized note that I send home with any student who may have dress code concerns so that I can quickly circle or fill in the situation that applies to that child and get on with my teaching the activity class. I have classes back to back and that does not leave much time. That standardized note is a tool to just make sure parents are informed whenever their children may have to miss gym and keep them informed about grade concerns.
I hope that helps explain the length of the note and the purpose of the note better.
Your daughter does not usually forget her shoes and every student is allowed one free miss each nine weeks. Her grade was not lowered because this was her free one this nine week grading period. I am suppose to send this note home every time someone forgets for record keeping purposes.
Thank you for your e-mail and if you have any further questions or concerns please don't hesitate to call me!

She also called my house yesterday and left a message (which I felt was nice - she didn't have to do that). I thought this note was a good answer to my email - what do you think?

Well, it's time for me to get in the shower and get this day started.
Later gaters!!!
