Chicago area Diser's - check in here Part 4

HI all!!

Just like the news is reporting, those of us close to I-80 are getting TONS of snow!! You can't even tell where the yard ends and the driveway begins on each side. There are inches and inches of snow!!!!!
Earlier is was like a blinding snowstorm here!!

I need to go out and shovel so the girls can get off the bus!!!! They both didn't have snow boots on and they'll never make it through all this snow!! It's got to be at least 5-6 inches thick!!! :scared1:

Wish me luck shoveling! ;)

Tony already called and told me not to over do it. He's worried about my ticker! So I'm shoveling a small path and that's it, he can do the rest when he gets home.

I'll check back in later!! :)

I like that it's not as bitterly cold but I'm not so happy about the snow -- only because I had to go drive in it.

DD called and said play practice was cancelled. WHEW!!! I was a bit nervous to think she was going to be on a bus at 5:40 tonight with these roads on a school bus. It's not as if they have the best traction in the world.

So, she's coming home on the regular bus. I'm tempted to go pick her up at the bus stop even though it's just down the street. Most people have not gotten home or gotten to schoveling the sidewalks yet. She only has her gym shoes on, so I'm thinking of being a nice mom & picking her up rather than her slushing through it or walking on the street. :scared1: since people like to go 40-50 mphs on our street when the speed limit is 25 -- that's on a clear day. They do slow it down for snow but not by much!

I have to go back out and re-shovel the drive myself. I already did it once before having to pick up the boys from school but now that they are all home & someone is here to entertain the 3 year old (I attempted to shovel during nap & of course because I had something to do, he fussed about going down).

At least it isn't real heavy snow. :cool1:

Hi Everyone! :yay:

I know it's been ages and ages since I've been on this thread, but I just wanted to pop in and say hello and see how you all were doing! It's snowing here a bit too, but just a few big random flakes - we really only collected and inch or so. I just want the warm weather back!

As for me, we are progressing! Our basement is almost finished - hopefully within the next month or so. I will be glad when that's over! I am now 21 weeks pregnant and feeling good so far. We had our ultrasound last week, and although we said we weren't going to find out the sex, I'm pretty sure I saw some boy parts down there. :woohoo: That works out great if it is a boy, since he and Cayden will be so close in age...and I won't have to do a thing to the nursery or move out any clothes!! We are scheduling a level 2 ultrasound in a few weeks, since Cayden has his VSD, they want to make sure that this baby doesn't have one. I'll try to remember to let you all knw what we find out!

Thinking about planning a trip to WDW next fall - I need a vacation! Not sure if we'll bring along the baby this time around, but Madison has been asking when we are going back, and I'm a bit antsy myself! Hope you all are well....I see lots of new faces on this board - glad to know there are a lot of us out there!! :dance3:

Mookie - I love the pic in your siggie! SOOOOOO cute

bunchkin - you probably already shoveled, but it seemed like it was powdery snow, not wet snow, which is good! :thumbsup2 I had a meeting in Wheeling this morning for work and the streets up there - major ones, like Milwaukee and Dundee were not even plowed. Scary :sad2:

I hate that I have to clean off snow off my car after work. It adds on to my commute time :headache: I just wanna get home and cuddle up. With my blanket.

But at least it's "warmed" up, right?? It's like 10 degrees as opposed to 1. Whoo hoo!!! :rotfl2:

Glad to hear you are doing well :cool1:

BTW, sk8leigh - I'm glad to hear you have indoor plumbing...but...umm..what were you using before? :confused3

:rotfl2:

Ok, so it was fluffy snow but it was like 6-7 inches of fluffy snow!!!!

I was outside for an hour and did the whole drive and the sidewalk in front of the house and the kids bus stop. :) Nice little work out.

Bunchkin,

I'm glad you survived the workout! I hope DH's late arrival didn't throw a crimp in your afternoon. He tried to get there as soon as he could, but he had to take all the backroads home. The x-ways were bumper to bumper. I know Megan didn't mind. Megan will have her boots tomorrow!!

My car did really well in the snow. I had been dreading and anticipating the snow to see how this Pacifica reacted. I felt pretty secure and it didn't slide and was able to move away from stop signs confidently with no slipping or wheel skidding. I was also able to stop confidently. So, I'm 100% happy with it now! Maybe it's all the Disney paraphenalia stuck on to sides weighing it down. And I'm adding more. I just ordered the Mom Mouse Ears sticker from laughingplace.com and the daughter Mouse Ears sticker too. One for me and one for Megan. Nothing for DH as he is Anti-Disney!

Well I hope everyone is home safe and sound. Megan was playing in the snow when I got home and was really enjoying herself. Honestly, it didn't feel too unbelievably cold. It was actually "pretty", but it can melt tomorrow if it wants too! :rotfl:

Shoveled here too. Not heavy, but lots. I am so tired of this cold weather. My feet have been cold for days now.
Bunchkin, did you do OKAY? No ticker trouble? Hope all went well.
Sandy, sorry your poor DH had to go out in the snow/cold again today.
Leigh glad to hear you're making progress. How much longer til you're in?
Jedi, sorry you had to work extra. I worked late last night, but glad to be off for the next few days. Nothing special to do either except a retirement dinner for someone at work which I am now wishing I hadn't said I'd go to.
I think I'd rather sit home. Of course, those little critters I have need to eat, and therefore, I will be required to go to the grocery store SOON!!!
Welcome to the newbies and welcome back to the Oldbies. Come by often to chat with us.
Mac-thanks for the listing. I watched Step by Step today. Hadn't seen that before. Was fun to see the rides.
Rosemarie, have you ever done a YUKON derby with the Scouts? If so, what exactly do they do? DH and DS are supposed to do this Saturday, but not sure if it's worth it with the weather the way it is.
Well, checking out for now. Will check back after get kids to bed.

good evening chicagoland homies....

today i shoveled and went to the movies.
the theatre was warmer than my house.
then i went to visit a 90 year old lady that is a shut in.

been gone all day it seems like.

Leigh glad to hear you're making progress. How much longer til you're in?

Uh oh, I think I've been misunderstood. My indoor plumbing comment was what the guy had just said in CoP! :rotfl: I almost put it in quotes, probably should have. :rolleyes1 Sorry about that.

But I do have indoor plumbing in my new place. The drywall should be done, and the last time I went by it I had finally gotten my front steps! :cool1: It should be done around mid-March. Thanks for asking. :goodvibes

mookie - Didn't you just have a baby last week? How old is he now? It really seems like you just had him! And congratulations on your little work in progress! :cutie:

mac - Oprah. :sad2:

For some reason Spongebob just came on Nick instead of another Nick at Nite show. :confused3

Stephanie played in the snow yesterday and she was in heaven:cloud9: But I didn't let her stay out that long because it was so cold outside. When she came in, her cheeks were so rosey, and they stayed rosey for a long time.

Did I tell you that I am teaching her how to play Monopoly?
We brought it out on Sunday and put it on the dining room table so we could leave and go back to it. Last night was round #2 at this game, and she is kicking my butt!!!!!! She already has 2 houses on each Park Place and Boardwalk. When I landed on one once, I owed her $500:eek: I keep losing money and she keeps getting money. I'll keep you all posted on the Monopoly showdown :thumbsup2

Bunchkin - I'm glad you did okay shoveling - I worry about you!!!!

Becky - Stephanie didn't have her boots either, and she was ankle deep in snow walking home, but she loved it!!!! I guess we were goofy like that when we were kids too:rolleyes:

mookie - I'm so glad you came back here for a visit!!!!! :wave2: Congratulations on your member of the family coming soon:goodvibes I bet that your 2 babies will be best friends, since they will be so close in age.:) Don't be a stranger, and come and visit often.

Jedi - I hate cleaning snow off my car too ::yes::

HERSEY - Does Alex like to go out in the snow?

Sam - I'm glad your new car did well in the snow :drive:

Tiggerrnnn - My feet are always cold too :cold:

macraven - Wow, that is some experience  That would have been insulting to me too ::yes:: I used to love Oprah many years ago, but not anymore. Whenever I happen to see some of her show, she somehow always has a way to mention to her money. I think to myself, "we all know your rich, you don't need to keep bringing it up" I think because I don't watch her all the time, I can see the changes in her. If you watched her faithfully everyday, you probably wouldn't notice.

Leigh - Your place will be done sometime in March?! How awesome!!!!!:woohoo:

Well, I gotta run and get Steph up for school :teacher:
Have a good day today everyone!!!!

I hope you had a great, snowy, birthday yesterday!!! :cool1:

Not my Birthday yesterday it was DH Scott's.. but thanks. i'll tell him that he is being wished Happy Birthday from the Chicago DIS.. Maybe now he will go to a DIS meet..:lmao: NOT!!!! He is not very interested in my DIS/internet friends.. he thinks that all of this is too wierd..

We got some snow here too but not as much as the south side, maybe a few inches just enought to make driving last night slippery.

Hope everyone stays warm today..

good morning chilly Chicagoans. it has beena brutal last couple of days, hasn't it? Not funa at all walking to work. I got a new coat last Saturday since my other one is not quite warm enough. The new one is nice and has down lining. Its been doing the trick but I am still bundled up like a bear with so many layers of clothes when I go outside. Monday the radiator busted at work and it was freezing inside too. I can't win sometimes. But we're back up and running and its not so cold in there. I just wish I could stay home wrapped up in a million blankets...maybe tomorrow.
Next week I leave for a conference in New Orleans, so hopefully I can enjoy a little warmer temps for a couple days
Hope everyone is staying warm. Have a great day all! :hippie:

Princess Mindy Have fun while you're in N.O!!
Make sure you try to go hear some Jazz while you're there!! :thumbsup2

slo My heart was fine, all though I was really tired early on in the evening last night. Tony made dinner last night, I cleaned up and then I promptly crashed on the couch!! :rotfl:

Glad to hear Stephanie had fun in the snow! I tried to get Hunter to go out with me when I was shoveling and he wanted nothing to do with it!! He wanted to stay inside where it is warm!! :)

Sam It's ok that Dan was a little late. I obviously knew it would take extra time for everyone out there driving! ;)
Glad your car is handeling the winter driving well!! I get to test out my new tires in the snow in a little bit myself!! :)

Tiggerrn Thanks for the concern! I took my time shoveling and didn't over do it too much! ;)
