It's a great way to meet everyone and enjoy the craziness of other Disney addicts in our area! ;) :cool1:
We've been to movies, the mall, Disney on Ice, Mickey's Magic Show, a pumpkin farm.... you name it and we'll meet there!! :thumbsup2

So this is an open invitation to one and all, and your families too.
No one's excluded.....we always say "the more the merrier"!!:hippie:

April 28th - Bowling Meet - Brunswick Zone in Romeoville
Here is a link to their site:Type in zip code 60446 in the 'find a center' field.
There is bowling, pool tables, an arcade and bumper cars and of course food.
It is located near I-55. So it's easy to get to.

No time is set as of yet.
I will have more info in the next weeks.
Let me know if anyone has any questions. :hippie:

I just got pointed over here from another thread and wanted to stop by and say hello to my geograhic neighbors! After reading some of the posts, this is quite the community.

I've lived in the city most of my life and have recently joined DIS after months of lurking.

Would love to meet up for a cup of coffee and a run at Home Depot for all those LGMH's to wear proudly next time we're in WDW!

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Thank you all so much for your welcome! It makes me feel so much better knowing that I won't be cut off from my disers and hopefully making some new friends!
We have to sell our house here and find a house out there by the end of JULY! hardly enough time to get all my things packed and my house cleaned up! we are going to be looking 30 minutes to an hour outside of Rolling Meadow...more of a new area with some good schools. I have an 8th and 9th grader....what grades do your schools split at? I'm so worried about the kids, they've lived in California all their lives.:worried: :worried:
Thanks again! Helen

July!! Wow, that's not a lot of time!! Do you already have your house on the market?

Our school's by me are split: Elementary 1-3, Middle 4-6, Jr High 7 & 8 and then the high schoolers all together 9-12.

Well if you are going for an hour outside Rolling Meadows, you are going to be in the far Northwestern burbs like Cary, Hoffman Estates, Barrington and they are all nice areas. I think the biggest adjustment you will have is weather. You are in a pretty temperate area right now where it probably never gets really cold. It can get pretty dang cold here in January and February. It's very flat and the are no mountains, but we don't have much to worry about with earthquakes!! The people here are very personable, Midwestern hospitality and all that and pretty down to earth.

Our schools are usually split like this K, 123 (elementary), 456 (middle), 78 (jr. high), and then high school which is 9-12. So, your kids will probably go to different schools for the first year then both be in high school together.

It's a big move that's for sure, but give yourself some time and I'm sure you'll settle in fine. I take it this is probably a job relocation?

Welcome to the Chicagoland forum!! :welcome:

I didn't get a chance to welcome you yet so :welcome: but I'm always a day late & dollar short when it comes to this thread. I read everything, then forget what I was going to say by the time I get around to responding. You would think the multi-quote would have saved me but I still have a hard time. :lmao:

It depends on the area but *everywhere* as far as I know 9th is High School & 8th is Middle School.

In my area which is about 30 miles west of the city, the split is
K-5
6-8
9-12

I have a 7th grader, 4th grader, 1st grader and 3 year old. I'm out in Geneva (aka Tri-cities -- Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles), which I have no idea how far away that is from Rolling Meadows. :lmao: I'm extremely bad with most locations, I have HEARD of most of them but would have to look at a map to know where they are in relation to me. :lmao:

:welcome: to all the other new members too!!!

Edited to add: I see I posted after others -- apparently us way out in the Far West Suburbs (and YES, that's what I say we are since that is what the phone company used to call us! ;) ) have a different split. I know many moons ago it was K-6, 7-8, 9-12 but then 6th graders moved to "Middle School" vs. "Junior High" -- trust me my DD has drilled it into my head that she is in Middle School not Junior High as I so like to call it.

Bringing this to the new page so all can see!!! ;)

Anyway, my analogies aside, ;) Great America ( I still tend to refer to it as Marriott's, so if you see me mention that, just bear with me) is a great thrill ride park.

:thumbsup2 Yeah!!! I'm not the only person who still call's it Marriott's! People look at you funny when you do that although I have to laugh. When it was Marriott's the big thing was that it was "Better than Six Flags" -- I still have a hard time dealing with it for the fact that it is now "Six Flags".

Anyway -- the new thing is they are doing up a land based on the Wiggles this year. I find that completely amusing. It is bizarre though that they do have Disney merchandise there (or did last summer!).

For me, it's a 1x a year is good thing although I did have so much fun now that my DD is older & LIKES coasters. Since it was just her & I with and met up with a friend's family. My DH doesn't like coasters (or rides much in general). I hadn't been there since I was about 13 or 14 but went last year because DD was finally tall enough for the coasters so would make it worth the $$ plus we went during scout days which is really cheap! The tickets for both of us PLUS buying an all you can eat picnic lunch that way was cheaper than just 2 tickets alone would have been normally.

I was surprised how much it did change as they have some decent little kid areas now.

It's still definitely no Disney (especially when you can turn around from buying a pop & realize the parade was passing you -- I nearly walked right in the middle of it before I realized it was the parade! :lmao: No waiting for a seat at all!)

yes, i have been known to go to the "blue resturant" and eat dessert first...

bunchkin, i have to take a pass on the meet.
the 28th of april will be my 28th wedding anniversary and i think mr mac had other plans than go bowling.......

i think slo will faint when she comes back and sees how many pages we have covered today.

MIA: roseprincess, hersey.........wait, i better not list them as i always screw up.
i'm blonde.
i forget what i read sometimes.
it's genetic...

you name it and we'll meet there!! :thumbsup2

OK...this had me rolling -- since we had been talking about Great America, it struck me as hilarious to do a Chicago DIS meet at Great America -- has that been done?

That would be too weird. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hi all!

Wow!! A lot of new DISers here, where did you all come from at once??:scratchin ;)
Welcome to all the new DISers here :welcome:

Hi Dan :wave2: Nice to see you here

helenm29-I live in the Schaumburg area, very close to Woodfield. Tho, I hardly shop at Woodfield. strange, I know, ules I'm going to the Disney store :)
Which suburb outside of Rolling Meadows were you planning to move to?
I know parts of Hoffman Estates(west of Barrington Rd) is building up with new townhomes.etc. Tho that part of Hoffman Estates is not part of my school dist. Also Huntley,Il. is building up too(about half hour west of Schaumburg.).

Blue and Gold cub scout banquet(luncheon) went well this past Sunday. When we got home from the banquet, we found a birthday party invitation by our door, for Chrissy. It was pretty exciting for her to find a party invitation, as it surprised all of us!!
I've been out shopping today.

Prayers for the families of the people that were killed from the fire.

Hi to all :wave2:
Hope everyone is enjoying our fine weather today!! :thumbsup2

Great America; My kids are supposed to get free tickets for doing the 6 hrs of reading thing that G.A. was doing in conjunction with the schools. :cool1:
