is a small world after all. (TVKirby note - The segment of the show is the
last 5 minutes or so. It is really just a short history of Animatronics.
Lots of footage we've seen before <Wathel Rogers in the Carousel of Progress
programming harness, etc.>. Segments are shown from all the parks and going
back 50 years. Expedition Everest's Yeti is shown, but commentary says it
opened in 2005 instead of the correct year of 2006. Lucky the Dinosaur is
also shown. Worth recording for the completist. Interesting, but not
essential viewing.)

On Saturday December 30, 2006 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on the History Channel
is

Modern Marvels - Walt Disney World
Journey underground and backstage at the technological marvel that is Walt Disney World. Enter a make-believe world spanning some 27,000 acres, brought
to life by cutting-edge technology. What was once Florida swampland now
boasts the world's largest theme park. The ride technology ranges from
space-age centrifuges to enhanced motion vehicles powered by 3,000 PSI of
hydraulic pressure. And hundreds of audio animatronics brought to life
through the power of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Walt Disney World is made up of four separate theme parks, each with its own
innovations: the 107-acre Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and
Disney's Animal Kingdom. The four parks are all part of a megaplex of a
resort. Twice the size of Manhattan, it was the final vision and crowning
achievement of a man who spent more than 40 years pushing the limits of
technology to create entertainment magic: Walt Disney.

On Sunday December 31, 2006 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on VH1 is

I Love the '80s: 3D - "1982" Episode #3.
Orange Julius; `Victor/Victoria' ; EPCOT Center; Freezy Freakies; `Cats';
Human League; Bow Wow Wow; Tron'; VCRs. VH1 description says"In 1982, Walt
Disney helped us keep our science straight and bored kids to tears with his
brand new EPCOT Center, the "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow."
(TVKirby sez - The segment is the second one after the commercial break at
40 minutes in. As expected, they spend a huge TWO minutes with the VH1
celebrities that call it both Fantastic and Boring. Wil Wheaton proclaims it
"Everything that Geeks Love". They show scenes from opening day. There is a
shot of Dreamfinder and Figment. Commentary on World Showcase concentrates
on the availability of alcohol. Lots of "It looks like a big golf ball"
references to Spaceship Earth combined with a graphic of a giant golf club
hitting it. It was about what you would expect from VH1. Worth recording for
the footage.)

Morning.. hope everyone had a great weekend.

I am downtown at work today. but hopefully it will go fast and I will be busy..DH and Eric are going to a paintball place near Mokena that is free today. Geoff is home alone playing on the 'puter ( that is after he wakes up)

Must be lots of people off today 'cause the train was empty...We got Monoploy today edition, it was real cute..

Today is one of my favorite days of the year.:goodvibes

I love relaxing at home, while checking out all the new gifts the kids have received. Kevin and I gave them a V-Smile this year, so I'm going to set that up for them today:thumbsup2

Becky - I had to laugh because that's how I am with vaccuums. I can't even begin to tell you how many vaccuums I've gone through in the 11 years I've been married. I hope your new toaster (after you replace it) lasts a long time :wizard:

Debbie - I missed you guys too!!!!!
grouphug.gif

macraven - Thanks for the listings!!! I've never seen that Modern Marvels one all the way through - I'll need to watch it on the 30th:thumbsup2
geffric - I was wondering if alot of people would be off today. Kevin is off today, and is already shopping with his parents to get after Christmas sales. I hope work goes by real fast for you today!!!

Question:
Does anyone know why my smilies aren't working unless I go to the smilie face above the web button thing, or if I type them out myself? Am I doing something wrong, or are they not working for everyone?

Well, I gotta run and make some breakfast.
Have a good day today everyone!!! :wave2:

Hi all, Happy Boxing Day(or day after Christmas)-
We had a busy day yest. Was up early yest, kids opened their gifts up around 7am. they were very happy with what they got from Santa!! Some DVDs and game cube games. Got 2 board games- Deal or No Deal DVD and board game and Life board game.
Spent time to visit and have lunch with grandma and my parents at the nursing home. My mom brought in catered roast beef, mostacolli, and meatballs. Opened gifts with grandma. Then we went to my parents afterwards to open more gifts. I was too exhausted to even post here last night.
DH is working today and the rest of the week.
The kids and I are staying home today while they play with their new toys.

Nice to see you, paintnolish and some others that had posted here recently (wave). Can't get the smilies to work.

Hi to all (wave)

Ok, talk later.

Good Morning all! Glad to hear everyone had a great Holiday.

Slo I think the smilie issue is a by product of the upgrade. I read somewhere the old search function is back temporily.

We watched the WDW parade yesterday I so wanted to be there. Yes even with all those people.

good tuesday morning chicagoland homies........

now we look forward to the new year.......

Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the Disney Christmas parade yest and didn't tape it, either (sad smilie). I was ready to watch it at 9am yest and Oprah ended up being on instead (roll eyes). I know after that, the parade was on at 10am, but by 9:30am, Matthew wanted to spend a couple of hours playing hs new game cube game and we had to get ready for the day.
I know Oprah (or we call her Opie at home) does great work for hte kids in Africa, but I really think it wasn't necessary to have her show on yest. morning when it could be put on today. I was looking forward of at least watching a few minutes of the WDW parade. Oh well. I did read from an email I got that there were going to be about 4 or 5 Make-A-Wish kids walking in the parade, which I would have liked to see.

Why does Oprah or our local channel 7 affiliate feel they need to put on an Oprah episode instead of the parade at 9am? I know Oprah thinks she monopolizes Chicago for some reason (sad and roll eyes smilie).
Ok, enough rant on that.

roseprincess.....i agree about the oprah show.

i have met her in person and don't like her at all.
she is a totally different person on tv than she is in person away from her show.

SLO lots of people are at my company but the tower is pretty empty. My train was empty too. Starbucks was closed when i came in and people are saying that it is closed all day...

The only way I get the smilies to work is to :confused3 cut and paste... maybe it is just getting used to its programming and will be back to the double click soon..

.. back to work..

Thanks for agreeing, Mac (thumbs up smilie).
Just was frustrated that I didn't get to see a few minutes of the Disney parade due to Opie being on when she shouldn't have (rolleyes). Not sure why some people in the USA in general feel they need to bow down to her??

I do like that SNL skit (can't remember her name) that she parodies being Oprah and does the Oprah Show skit. It is so funny!! (ROFL)

Good 'Day After Christmas' to all of you!!!
Happy Tuesday!!

Glad to hear that so many of you enjoyed your holiday!

We did as well. Still trying to clean up and find places for all the new goodies. :)

I was under stocked on the batteries so we need to head out today to get some. What was I thinking not having the right amount available yesterday???!!! :rotfl2:

Already starting to think of putting some of the decorations away!
I don't want to come home to a ton of stuff to put away after our trip! :thumbsup2

slo Sounds like you really enjoyed Christmas! :teeth:

Becky Toaster killer!!! ::lmao:

Geffric DH had to go into work today too. Not many people on the train.

Hersey I only got to see a little bit of the parade. :(
Glad you had a good Christmas! Alex get any toys I need to play with?? ;)

Hi Everyone! Well, I'm working today too! Very quiet on the train this morning. Only a handful of my usual train buddies showed up this morning.

Hey Debbie!! I just wanted to thank you for the series of really cute Disney cards you sent me this past week. I really looked forward to them after the first one!!

It was hard getting up this morning and I felt bad having to get Megan up. She's supposed to be on vacation. Well next year, I'm scheduling this week off! She deserves to have her breaks too! She's at her old daycare center and there weren't too many kids in today, so I hope she's not too bored! They are getting a naptime though and I know she'll appreciate that.

Santa was very good to me, Dan and Megan! We all got out wishes granted. Megan got the most beautiful winter white Mickey and he's just adorable and Sooooffffftttt! Great minds think alike too because Santa brought her a Winter White Stitch. Her Mickey came from her brother! Also, that very same brother got engaged this holiday too! My stepson is 25 and his fiancee is nice. A bit quirky, but I can live with her. She mentioned something about Megan being a flower girl, but the wedding isn't til 2008, so I think Megan (who will be 8) might be too old for that by then. I told her to take her time and decide what type of wedding she wants and that there's no pressure from us on who is or is not going to be in the wedding. I had so much stress around my wedding that I would never incur stress for anyone else. I'm easy, just tell me when to be there and if I should bring a gift.

It's very quiet here except for the one whiney guy that sits in the office kitty corner from me. He's complaining I have the heat up too high, but honestly, it's chilly in here and he can just suffer... I know great Christmas spirit and generosity huh! Oh well. I'll be fine after my second cup of joe!

Take care everyone, no matter where you are today!

Big Waves!!

SamIAm

YEH! I'm not going blind anymore. I can read the names on the posts again :cool1: Oh the things we take for granted!

Bunchkin Alex received some new lego sets and a couple of video games. Come on over you can help build the lego's.

Sorry to those of you who had to go to work today. I go back tomorrow.

Reading everyone who said there train was not as full today explains why it only took me about 50 minutes to get to Oak Park from here.

I had to go in to get DD's back brace today. Last time we went to Shriner's we left at 7:30 to get there by 9 and didn't make it until 9:30 due to traffic.

SO...today I left at 8:30 more or less (would have been earlier but after dropping off the boys had to return to our house for some stuff DD forgot). We had a 10 AM appt, at a place not too far from where Shriner's is. I was expecting tons of traffic with everyone back at work. Next thing I knew we were already there and it wasn't even 9:30. We sat in the car until 9:30 and figured we would just wait around until 10 but maybe they would take us a few minutes early.

I couldn't believe how fast we got there and basically no traffic. I had more traffic coming back at noontime. It was weird.

DD seems to think we are going shopping tonight after DH gets home from work. Hee Hee. I do need to return that toaster and she got a gift certificate to Barnes & Noble, so she wants to spend it. I'm scared to think how crowded the stores will be in the evening today though. :scared:

Yesterday was such a great day.:goodvibes

Stephanie and Katie played with their new V-Smile, and they seemed to like it. Katie needs a lot of help - so we'll play with that together when Steph goes back to school.:teacher:

Stephanie and I played with her new Magic Kingdom board game, and it was fun. Each player gets 5 destinations and you have to visit all 5 of you destinations first to win - it's fun!!!!:)

Then Stephanie, Katie and I played with Katie's new Dora Candyland game. Katie never played Candyland before, and she enjoyed it - especially because she won the first game:yay:

Then we watched Cars on super surround-sound. That movie is great when it's loud:thumbsup2

I'm not entirely sure what this day is going to bring.
I'm just playing it by ear:rolleyes:

Rosemarie - Sounds like you had a very busy Christmas Day. I bet your Grandma really loves you all coming to be with her on Christmas:goodvibes

HERSEY - I wish I would have taped the parade. The girls watched the parade, but I didn't because I was getting ready for my company. I contemplated putting on in my bedroom, but then I would have been distracted and wouldn't have gotten ready in time

macraven - I'm not a fan of Oprah either :sad2: I used to like her alot when she was new. But now when I should catch her show here and there (very rarely) it seems like she always feels the need to mention her money in some form or another :snooty: . I can't stand it - we all know she's rich!!!! She's worked hard for her money - but it doesn't need to be mentioned :sad2: It really really bugs me!!!!!!!

geffric - Wow....even the Starbucks was closed - that is a slow day in the city ::yes::

Bunchkin - Can you believe we are leaving in under 10 days :) I don't know if I should do this :yay: or do this :scared1: I haven't started packing 1 thing yet :sad2: Our itinerary is as follows:

Friday - Leave at 6am for the airport
Check into Wilderness Lodge
ADR at 7:20pm at California Grill
Go for dessert at Ghiradellies:goodvibes

Saturday - Watch our friend at the marathon
5:20 ADR at Coral Reef

Sunday - 9am ADR at Kona Cafe
7:20pm at House of Blues

Monday - 9am at Crystal Palace
Go home:guilty:

When it comes to the parks - we are going to bounce around alot. We normally never parkhop with the kids - but we will this time ::yes::

SamIAm - Congratulations to your stepson on his engagement:cheer2: That sounds like nice Christmas family news:goodvibes The flower girl for our wedding was older, and it was great - she knew exactly what to do:thumbsup2

Becky - How is your DD adjusting to her backbrace? I hope she is doing okay:wizard:

Well, I'm off and running - I gotta make some breakfast.
Have a good day today everyone!!!! :wave2:

Good Morning All!!! :wave2:

Has anyone ever watched the movie 'Walk the Line' about the life of Johnny Cash?
This has been running on HBO lately, and I seem to be drawn to watch it every time I see it.
I've never been a HUGE Johnny Cash fan, but I do really like this movie.

slo I know.....I haven't started packing yet either. But plan to really get things together starting this weekend. I did have a chance to put some things to the side. And prior to Christmas picked up a few things I needed.
And I did make a few calls to verfiy our ME, a cake I ordered, and change a ADR time.

Slo & Bunchkin Wow, you girls have some great intineraries. I can't wait to hear how you both like Wilderness Lodge/Fort Wilderness! I'm still trying to finagle a way to go in April, but if that doesn't work out, it will be Disneyland in June!! A girl's gotta do, what a girl's gotta do!

Well, it's a pretty slow day here at the old workplace. I have my 633 page book on Walt Disney that I need to dive into. It is written by Neil Gabler, the only guy ever allowed into the Disney Vaults to research Walt's life. It's a recent release, so it should be pretty good! I got it for myself for my birthday...

Oh speaking of that, anyone in need of a good movie recommendation?? Charlotte's Web is so cute and so true to the story line. I went to see it on my birthday and it was great! So cute and so many funny scenes.

Well, that's it for now I guess. Have a great day everyone. Heard we are getting some SNOW this weekend. Winter is coming back with a vengeance eh?

HERSEY said:

We love Legos here too! :thumbsup2

In fact Hunter asked Santa for Star Wars legos, which he got.
And of course he wanted them opened right away.
So Tony started helping him put together this huge ship thingie, but Hunter took off to play with something else....of course.
For an hour Tony works on this huge thing and was still not done, and getting no help from Hunter. So I tell him to stop.
Tony walks away and here comes Hunter and starts taking the whole thing apart!!!!! :scared1: An hour's worth of work down the drain!!!! :rotfl:

How can it snow if it's going to be 51???

At least that's what I saw on the news this morning. :confused3

Glad you liked Charlotte's Web...we did too!! :goodvibes
Did you like Hollywood Theatre??? What did you get to eat??? :teeth: popcorn::
