Since I'm not in the mood for flying, we are celebrating our Anniversary in Chicago next weekend. I know we're going to stay on the Mag Mile, but I haven't got around to making reservations. I like the Westin, but I want to stay somewhere else.

Which restuarant would you choose for a nice romantic setting. I love The Signature Room, Lawrys, Houston's and The Grand Lux Cafe, but I really don't think the Grand Lux rate up there on the romaceometer. Benihana's is another favorite, but I don't want to share a table with other people.

Another thing I thought about doing was a dinner cruise at night although I'm not sure which one to pick. The horse and Carriage ride is a definite.

Since we love Reggae (i hope I spelled that right) and Jazz I know for sure we're going to the WILD HARE Friday night. The Back Room on Rush street is another favorite of ours for a little relaxation and Jazz.

I appreciate any recommendations and please don't think I'm being picky. Due to dh traveling to Chrysler in Kokomo from Indy 7 days a week, we don't spend as much quality time together as we would like to.

Thanks Dan:D

BTW, the menu minus the fondue looks delicious :)

Geja's is an excellent suggestion. It is romantic.
The Signature room is great if it's an evening with a view. Did you know you could just go to the bar at the Signature Room, have a drink, enjoy the view and have dinner somewhere else. It may be a fun thing to do. I would do a dinner cruise only because it has been cool in the evenings which makes the cruise a little uncomfortable.
Budget Travel just offered some interesting hotel options for Chicago. My magazine is in the car so I'll reply as soon as I'm able to retrieve it. Or, maybe you can check msnbc.com travel area---I believe this is the website where Budget travel is at.

My husband and I almost always celebrate our anniversary at Lawry's. We both love it!

Dh and I use to go to the Signature alot when we lived in Racine Wisconsin. The view on a cloudless day is quite beautiful.

Try the Drake. Me and DH just did an adults only weekend there two weeks ago. Splurge and stay Club Level, the rooms are large and you have access to the Executive Lounge, which offers an awesome view of Lake Michigan as well as breakfast each morning. In the evening they offer hot and cold appetizers and open bar until 11:00.
We spent alot of time enjoying the view with a great glass of wine.
Check out their website. http://www.thedrakehotel.com/index.shtml

Yes, they do still serve the corn. It tastes better in the restaurant but here's the recipe for it:

Creamed Corn

A delicious selection from the Lawry's® Prime Rib Restaurant.
Prep Time: 3 minutes
Cook Time: 10 to 15 minutes

Lawry's Products Needed:
Lawry's® Seasoned Salt

1 package (22 oz.) frozen whole kernel corn, defrosted and drained
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon Lawry's® Seasoned Salt
3 tablespoons sugar
Dash white pepper
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup flour

In large saucepan, combine corn, cream, milk, Seasoned Salt, sugar and white pepper; mix thoroughly. Heat over medium just until warm. In small bowl, whisk together butter and flour. Slowly add to corn mixture, stirring constantly. Bring just to a boil; quickly reduce heat to low and cook 7 to 10 minutes until slightly thickened

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Meal Suggestion: Serve with Prime Ribs of beef and a crisp green salad.

For restaurant...try Riva's....its at Navy Pier and very nice....on the 2nd floor looks out at the water.

I'd steer clear of Riva. Had a terrible experience there - two hour wait with a reservation - kept getting bumped for regulars. Finally seated behind a column with a server who didn't know we existed. Lots of big groups and not very romantic IMO.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate your help on this.

Right now it's a toss up between Lawrys, The Signature Room and Geja's.

Karen thanks for the recipe:D

make a 5 o'clock ressie...or you could be waiting a very loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time!! They only take ressies for the first seating, which is at 5. If you go here, you will have a great romantic meal!!! One of my very favorite places to eat!! Enjoy and Happy Anniversary!!!

Oh Dan!! That would be MY fave!!! ;)

However, I'd chose the Signature Room for something this special! Only went once, but loved it! :smooth:
