Anyone make their own? What recipe do you use and do you add any extra/interesting ingredients?

I'd like to try to make both the traditional and something alittle unique.

I use the recipe on the back of the chex cereal box. I don't follow all the directions though. I don't have any onion salt or seasoned salt in the house, so I just add a little more garlic salt. I also add an extra tbsp of worcestershire sauce...makes it taste more yummy. :)

My mom makes it just the way I like it and sends it to me at school!
I have a great mommy :)

We have to use the Lea & Perrins worcestershire sauce.
Also we add garlic bagel chips.
My mom likes the waffle-looking pretzels, I like the sticks.
I am not too found of peanuts in it so I use mixed nuts without the peanuts.

Just thinking about this brings tear to my eye. My grandmother used to make it ever holiday. She passed in Feb (she had suffered from Alzheimer for many years).

I make the traditional Chex mix every year. But, for the past
two years I have also made a version that uses orange juice, craisins and almonds. Very yummy. I believe the recipe is on
the chex.com site.

I don't add the nuts when baking, because they taste funny to me when they are cooked.

I sude the regular: 6tbsp butter/marg; 2tbs worstershire; 2 tsp seasoned salt; 1tsp garlic powder and 1/2 tsp of onion powder.

Tastes good to me, but I add a little extra butter/marg and worstershire.

I always use extra worcestershire and a little extra season salt instead of the onion powder. I use dry roasted peanuts, small pretzel sticks, and goldfish crackers along with the cereal.

I use margerine instead of butter because the butter tends to burn and I also do my party mix in the microwave instead of the oven. It's so fast and easy!!

I like the traditional way, from the recipe on the box. Why mess with a good thing!

My wife is a wonderful cook, and rarely follows recipes, but when making chex mix for the holidays, you do it by the book, or more correctly, by the box!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I usually buy it but want to make it this year.

Kathy,

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. Why don't you make it this year and continue the tradition:D

We make this every year. We don't put any garlic chips in it and we add a cup of our pecans besides the mixed nuts. We also use maragine. We let the maragine melt in the oven add the salt, etc. Then we put the chex cereals, nuts, and pretzels ( the dry stuff) in a gallon zip lock bag and pour the maragine mixture over it. Shake it really good and then pour it back in the pan and do it the rest of the way it should be done. We have found that shaking it in a ziploc gets it mixed up much much easier and more evenly. Have fun!!! :)
