Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama

I think the rides like Primeval Whirl, Triceratop Spin. etc,. look like fun, but I don't think the carnival stalls suit a Disney park at all. Apart from it looking tacky, I find that area really ugly with all the concrete and garish colours, especially after the lushness of the rest of the park.

i don't like it either. reminds me of a carnival and does not follow in the typical disney fashion.

It's not my favorite area from an aesthetic standpoint, but we spend alot of time there. My kids like all of the rides and the boneyard. DD5 can dig for a long time. Dinosaur is ds8 favorite ride in the park. It would be nice if they could remove the carnival atmosphere.

We skipped it - but I thought it was themed in Disney style - the style just is small town carnival tacky!! We liked the old junker cars....just wanted not to bother with typical carnival rides.

Our family kind of likes the carnival area. The prizes are quite easy to win, and aren't bad quality. For someone who in NOT good at carnival type games, this Dad can win something for his 2 sons, and be a hero for a few minutes!!!

I must say that it may not be classic Disney, but my children love it!
How fun to 'win' a cute stuffed animal for a few bucks, and they are not the carnival cheep stuffed animals like at the county fairs. We have fun just watching the "I won" look on little faces. I thought this area was always to be a bit cheeky and silly fun for the young at heart.

I'm not referring to all of Dinoland, U.S.A, just the Chester & Hester Dino-Rama area. :D

Chester and Hester area is alright. It does have a carnival atmosphere and should have been added to DTD as a little fun atmosphere.

My family all thought that they just plopped the the carnival area in an "old" area. They didn't realize they made it to look like that. So, with that being said, I think they did theming very well. I love to look around at the area. We skipped the carnival games because we get enough of those here. The rides were fun. My only problem with this area is that I really don't think it fits into the rest of the park. I think Animal Kingdom is beautiful, and I'd never call the carinavl area beautiful. I'm not sure where I'd put that area. I think if they would have given it a movie theme instead of dinosaur theme it would have been much better suited at MGM.

It's so cheesy it's great! A lot of people, I think, just don't "get it".

I think that it's cute and fun! The whole road-side attraction thing is part of our cultural history and I think Disney did a good recreating that. That being said, I don't go on any of the rides... I hate getting jostled around on Primevil Whirl and if I wanted a Dumbo-ish ride I like the Alladin one better. The games are fun, my poor DH who can never win anything at the fair or amusement park won 2 dinosaurs for me and was so proud!

I think the theming is good, but a lot of people don't "get it" as is obvious from this thread. Next time you're there, look down at the road/parking lot -- it's pretty cool the way they made it look like a place where a temporary carnival would land. We enjoy Primeval Whirl but our family refers to the Triceratops Spin as Dino Dumbo.

We've never done the carnival games -- I assumed they would be hard to win at like at the Boardwalk. My 16-year-old sometimes comes home from our local theme park (Paramounts Carowinds) with four basketballs, but he didn't manage to win even one on the Boardwalk.

Help me understand what that has to do with "Animal Kingdom"? I truly want to get it!

just back 2 weeks ago, and my 2 dd (7 and 4) loved that area. They both had studied dinos in school this year and were so excited to see this part of the park. They loved the games, they made wonderful memories playing with dh, and then we headed over to Tarzan rocks (thanks to a dis vet who recommended it).

It's supposed to look tacky and be kind of cheesy, like a roadside attraction would. That's the part I think people don't get -- that it's supposed to look unDisneylike and cheap.

I think the only thing it has to do with Animal Kingdom is that one of the lands is Dinoland, and Dinorama is dinosaur themed.

I'm not sure that building Dinorama was the best use of WDW development $, but I do think it fits its supposed theme pretty well. We like Primeval Whirl and usually ride it when we're in AK, but we don't spend a lot of time hanging out around it.

Just last week I posted an article on my opinion of Dino-Rama on my website (scroll down to the bottom of the page).
Excellent review! ITA!

I have to agree with Mplsmom1. Tacky! These to rides just don't go with the flow in AK. Maybe if they weren't such bold and bright colors. We did Dino Insitute and when we walked out of the gift shop, WHAM! Hit with the site of these 2 ugly rides. If they were colored more with the theme of AK in mind it wouldn't be so tacky. Having rides such as these in AK is ok, but I just don't think that they look like they belong in there. Definitely has the look of cheesey carnival to it.::yes::
