Just saw the blue crab festival on Travel Channel, and now I cannot wait to visit there and stuffed myself with great seafood. So when is a good time (other than summer peak season) to visit? And which area should I go to? We lived in NYC, so this will just be a long weekend getaway thing. Would you recommend us taking the train down to DC, then rent a car? (To save time mainly, so I don't have to fight to get out of town).

And if anyone can recommend a blue crab place in NYC for the time being, that will be great too. I heard there is a place in Brookyln that serve something similiar.

Thanks!

Well, if you are taking a weekend trip you must do what the locals do "Yous need to be goin downy oshin, hon!" ........Ocean City, Maryland that is. The season runs Memorial Day to Labor Day ...but we usually go just after Labor Day for low crowds and low prices! If Ocean City doesn't float your boat, Baltimore Inner Harbor is an excellent choice - lots to see & do!! Fells Point, Federal Hill, National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center, shopping, eating - love it - love it! Just so you know - you can get steamed blue crabs - old bay style from May to October (roughly) - the later in the season the better!

I grew up in Baltimore and now live in Elkton which is near the head of the bay. Blue crabs are most plentiful and least expensive in August and September. There are great places to get crabs up and down both sides of the bay. You could take the train to Wilmington, DE and rent a car and go to the eastern shore of MD or do the same from Baltimore. St. Michaels and Oxford are lovely small towns on the eastern shore where you could find a B&B. There are places in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore to visit and Phillips Restaurant would probably have crabs year round. Winter crabs are usually from Louisiana.

If you have any specific questions, PM me.
