Chernobyl

That's just mean.

Most screwed up thing I've seen in a classroom? It didn't phase me as much as the other kids, but in Health class, we watched a video of a baby being born... there's nothing 'screwed up' about it, but I'd imagine it made a couple of kids puke.

And the health teacher, though she's kinda cool, can't really shut up about the... hrm... 'male reproductive organ' :lmao:
We watched that last year. I looked at other peoples faces. Some kids looked scared. A couple girls were whispering something to the other. Yeah, that wasn't a good day. Bad part, we'll have to go to that place again! :scared1:

When we watched the baby come out, the kids were like, "Auuuugh!" and when it was all the way out (I won't go into details) the kids were like, "AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!! NASTY!!" Yeah, real mature...

Okay, I'm a chick, and I don't have a problem watching a woman give birth. I've seen videos of it before, and frankly, I think that its just weird that people were freaking out like that.

*Old Person Posting*
I'm just checking out the teen board to see what my kids are up to and I came across this post.
I was in senior year of high school when the Chernobyl accident occurred. It was horrible.
You kids don't understand how most of us spent every single day worrying, are they going to attack us with a nuclear bomb today?
If you want to see a movie that will scare the pants off you, check the SciFi channel to see when they will next aire The Day After.

On HBO last year, the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, a filmmaker went into the former Soviet Union to document how things have changed.
It was very sad.
All the people that were being interviewed were my age (late 30's) and they were living extremely hard lives.
Almost every single one of them had Thyroid Cancer, resulting in having their thyroid removed. Some of them died.
There wasn't one life that wasn't touched by some form of sickness as a result of the radiation exposure.
Some married and tried to have children and A LOT of the births were stillborn births or the mothers gave birth to "monsters", and yes, they do exist.
(My DH is a retired NYPD officer and there's a special museum in Manhattan that collects these "monsters"...not open to the public)

Anyway, if someone gave birth to a horrendously deformed child, they would abandon it at one of the government's many orphanages
specifically set up for those types of children. I could go on in detail, but I won't.
It was beyond imagination what is shown in that documentary.
Not even in science fiction books would they dare to describe a child so horribly deformed.

It was very, very sad. I cried the whole show.
One reason I cried is because I am blessed to have grown up here in the United States,
to be able to finish high school, to go on to college, to obtain an awesome job,
to marry a man who Respects and Loves Me, to be able to purchase my own home and to be able to give birth
to two Healthy daughters here in the safety and comfort of The United States of America
while my peers half the world away struggled every single day with death and misery all around them.
While I enjoyed my young adult life having fun and going from one party to another (responsibly!)
my peers were worrying about whether or not they would live to see another day.

I'm not saying this to make anyone feel bad, but it is important that you are exposed
to the horrible events in life so you will respect the past and realize just how blessed you are to live here in this country.
When we were kids, we were told about and exposed to a lot of different things because that's how you learned.
If you saw something bad, or you heard about something bad, then man, you weren't going to wind up in that spot if you could help it!

That's the way it was.
We were taught that Life Is Not Fair
and you had to work hard to be able to get what you wanted.
I didn't have one friend whose parents spoiled them.
If someone wanted a car, then they would get a job after school to buy it.
If you wanted nice clothes from the store, you would get them at Christmas time, if you were lucky, or you got a job. I could go on, yadda yadda yadda, but I'm sure you don't care.....
So the next time your teacher goes over something that makes you feel uncomfortable,
don't complain - just suck it up and learn from the experience.
You might actually get something out of it and it will make you appreciate the life you are living.

Most important lesson of all: Life Goes By In The Blink Of An Eye!
Don't forget to Respect yourself and have fun Responsibly! You're Only Young Once!

BTW: We had posters in school showing us the lungs of a smoker, BUT
The American Lung Association came into school one day with these two big glass cases filled with formaldehyde which contained Two Sets of Actual Lungs - one from a smoker and one from a non-smoker. It was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen. I don't think one kid from my class went on to smoke after seeing that....Posters? :rotfl: Check Out The Real Thing!

See what I mean about how people my age were educated? :goodvibes

two years ago in biology, my teacher brought in a friend he knew that dealt with dead bodies. im talking about the kinds of bodies that have been dead in homes for weeks before anyone finds them. yeah. so. he showed us pictures of murder scenes, blood everywhere and stuff. then there were the body outlines of where people had been literally stuck to the floor or chair. i have an over active imagination and by the end of it i felt so sick i couldnt even walk. that was the nastiest thing i have ever seen in my life.

I have a friend who does dissections. which means he cuts up dead bodies to learn more about anatomy, and teach in coming grad students. He loves that kind of stuff. I've seen a couple of his animal dissections, and I know I could NEVER be a doctor.

Honestly, like Shelby, I had no problem watching a woman give birth. I watch A Baby Story almost like everyday, it's interesting. It's not and is the most beautiful thing in the world. Yes, sure the baby is ugly and the blood is nasty but it's the beginning of a life. Of course, I shall never give birth as I could not go through with that. C sections disturb me.

~ our sex ed teacher was away so we had a suplly who taught us about contraception by using her hand to put the condoms and all on

~ our ex science teacher(who has such bad grammer me and my mate were complaining about it, the fact that we noticed it shows how bad it was) spent a whole lesson saying 1 2 3 quiet then handing out lunchtime detentions to people who hadnt said a word(it would have been great except for the amount of lunchtime detentions we had)

~ a cover teacher talked for a whole hour about his life and he wanted to be a football player for cardiff but he was told he couldnt so how he ran marathons. he talked for an hour without saying erm or um and i swear he wasnt breathing. it may juist have been worse than science

~ we talked about juries trials and sentences during a lesson about henry VIII(big yawn but at least we didnt have to write)

~ we talked about radioactive poisining and the death of the russian spy for a whole hour in history

~ in 5th grade we spent a whole 6 hour day discussing why sound couldnt travel in radioactive waves

We talked about that for TWO 40 min periods!

no one listened... but it was a cool waste of time!

the fact that if i got pregnant when i'm older and i could have a C section would just **shudders** oh make me not wanna give birth...

weird: my p.e. teacher was like "oh and my name is Miss P not mrs because i'm not married.. but ya know... **she smiled mysteriously** we'll talk about that later''

everyone was like OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH we don't even want to know about your personal life... this is pe class!

scary...

If I were to have a baby, I'd want to have it naturally, however, sometimes you don't get a choice. People sometimes have health issues, the baby is too big to fit in the birth canal or the cord gets wrapped around their neck and that results in C section.

My teacher was asked at the beginning of the year if he was married. He replied, yes. Then he was asked if he had children and he said: "Non, je n'en pas, mais tu sais jamais." and with a little wink. It was disturbing, basically he said no, but you never know.
My teacher is a riot, someone once killed his plant by accident and he said 'MA PLANTE!' and said it in a girly voice. And he looks like a nerdy guy.. so it was just too funny.
