Cheney Warns of New Attacks!

He has never been much of an attention seeker, so no doubt, his coming forward so early after the inauguration perhaps says something about how serious the threats have been and are going forward. An interesting read.

I especially liked this sentence from the article:

"But many of the top Democratic legal and national security players have long viewed Cheney as a man who became unhinged by his fears, responsible for major misjudgments in Iraq and Afghanistan, willing to bend or break legal precedents and constitutional principles to advance his aims. Polls show he is one of the most unpopular people in national life."

You better hope they are right, don't you think?

I especially liked these:

"When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.

Protecting the country’s security is “a tough, mean, dirty, nasty business,” he said. “These are evil people. And we’re not going to win this fight by turning the other cheek.”

I don't get the passive approach to preventing terrorist attacks.

Dang Dawn, I don't even have to watch the news anymore with you here on the DIS. :mic:

I really don't think terrorists particularly care who the leader of the target country is. I mean, it took years to plan 9/11. I don't think they "went ahead" with it because Bush won or would have canceled or postponed the attack if Gore had won.

I completely agree with you.

No matter who the Commander in Chief is, the terrorist will still strike. :sad2:

I hope he is proven wrong.....

It is sad that the first statement even has to be made about some Americans!!:sad2:

ITA agree with the statements!!!

It is sad that some people want to throw out the Constitution in the name of fear and terror.

I stopped believing anything Cheney said after his lies led to an unnecessary war.

Cheney is a smart guy. I wish to God he'd been the President instead of Bush.

Dick Cheney is doing his usual fear mongering. IMO, he was always the nutjob that ruined the Bush presidency. He had a big role in that. I didn't listen to him then and I won't now. I do believe that he is a hateful man. He is also no longer relevent at this point.

Over 4,000 Americans have been killed since September 11, 2001.

True, instead of coming over to our shores to try to kill Americans, the terrorists simply have to stay in Iraq and Afghanistan.

America has been kept safe from terrorist mostly, I believe, due to our willingness to ship Americans overseas to be killed.

I do not put much stock in anything Cheney says. Note how broad he is (if an attack takes place in 20 years, he can claim credit for predicting it).

I tend to agree with President's Obama's inaugural statement, "As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals."

Of course for eight years Cheney was telling Americans that 'we, the national government, must have more power, including the power to arrest without just cause and holding those arrested in secret locations for years, without knowledge of why they are being held. During perilious times like these we understand that Life is more sweet than Liberty and Safety more desirable than Freedom. We, the Government, shall tell you, the common American person, when you should feel safe, and when you may have rights.'

::yes::

Even Dick Armey agrees:

According to a new book on Cheney called "Angler," by Washington Post reporter Barton Gellman, Armey, a Texas Republican, had spoken out against the war. Cheney was trying to change his mind. So the vice president told him the threat from Iraq was actually "more imminent than we want to portray to the public at large." In Armey's account, Cheney told him:

Iraq's "ability to miniaturize weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear," had been "substantially refined since the first Gulf War," and would soon result in "packages that could be moved even by ground personnel....We now know they have the ability to develop these weapons in a very portable fashion, and they have a delivery system in their relationship with organizations such as Al Qaeda."

"Did Dick Cheney ... purposely tell me things he knew to be untrue?" Armey said. "I seriously feel that may be the case...Had I known or believed then what I believe now, I would have publicly opposed [the war] resolution right to the bitter end, and I believe I might have stopped it from happening."

Cheney Lied

okeydokey: I stopped believing anything Cheney said after his lies led to an unnecessary war.
:thumbsup2 I still don't understand why he isn't behind bars.

WhereOWhere: It is sad that some people want to throw out the Constitution in the name of fear and terror.

::yes:: Cheney is good at fear and terror
