Except for a little arthritis, you would never know that anything happened to her. She is not only eating her own food, including the "dietary enhancements" to put weight on, but she is eating Annie's hard food too. In fact, she walks right over to Annie's bowl and steals it while Annie looks on helplessly. It doesn't matter to Chelsea that Annie out weighs her by 61 pounds. This experience has taught me two lessons; even if your groomer, or someone else you have entrusted your pet to, has known you and your dog for years, always be on the alert. The second, and its a HUGE lesson, is no matter how bad your dog looks, and that was brain injury with nystagmus, spinal cord injury, paralysis and no matter how hopeless the situation appears at the outset, do not make any irreversible decisions for at least 24 hours. We had glimmers of hope after 24 hours and she has progressively improved. I have to say, I didn't think I would ever see her run again. I never thought she would jump up the three steps to get into the house again, but she did. Thanks for all your support. Just want you to know that this story has had a great ending. Tomorrow she starts on her Enacard for her heart murmur.

Go Chelsea. That is pretty amazing considering what she has been through!

:rotfl2: Silly me... I saw the thread title and thought it was a Clintonian political post :rotfl2:

I didn't remember reading your original post so i looked it up to see what happened. I am SO happy for chelsea's recovery. You are so right about not giving up hope too soon. Our cocker spaniel is 13 and right before vacation in august, she had a seizure. no use of back legs but not in any pain. we took her to emergency vet (ours was closed) and they did all kinds of tests and gave her a steroid shot. she seemed to be getting progressively better and they let her come home that next day. Later on that next day, she started running again. we couldn't believe she recovered that quick. They suggested canine cushings disease, she did have all the symptoms. Then just last week, she had another seizure, same symptoms, no feeling in back legs but this time we knew to wait and see how it went and sure enough by the next day, she was hobbling but at least walking. now this week, she is running as usual.
You must be feeling so good about keeping the faith and her recovery.
I was wondering if maybe the groomer should pay your vet bills. I can't remember if you said that in your other thread. I would have x-rays and everything done to see what they look like and send them the bill. they shouldn't be allowed to get away with that; if she did that to your dog she will do it to others. I work in a grooming salon and believe me, i watch them like a hawk. We did have to fire one girl for other reasons but i thought she was too rough with dogs anyways so i was glad to see her go.
I am so glad your story has a happy ending.

I remember your original threads and they just sickened me. I am so happy that your doggy is getting better.

Donna, she should pay my vet bills, but having said that, I realize that one can't get blood out of a turnip. I had her send back the check that I had written her for Annie, my standard poodle and she did. I am trying not to be bitter and vengeful and I am praying that she feels bad enough about what she did that she will never repeat it. She actually admitted that she "scruffed" her to get her to hold still. I listened again to the cell phone message that she left me and I could sense the panic in her voice. I don't think that she intended for it to happen but I think that she was too aggressive and too careless. Considering Chelsea was hospitalized for 5 days, 4 of those in ICU, with xrays, oxygen, ivs, steroids, NSAIDS and antibiotics, all iv, and blood work, the vet bill was very, very reasonable. ($543.00) Thanks for your good thoughts.

I wish i could go to your vet! I agree, let it go and be thankful. To pet lovers, that amount is nothing! Just that overnight stay in the emerg. vet clinic was over $800! When she was only 4, she slipped a disc and that was over $1,200! You do what you have to do, our animals are SO worth it!

Saw the subject line, and I thought DawnCT was enthusiastically announcing that Chelsea Clinton was running for political office. I then felt my forehead for signs of fever.

I didn't see where I mentioned "Clinton" anywhere. I hope you have recovered.

How many Chelseas do you know? Even in Connecticut, the yuppie-name epicenter of America? Chelsea Clinton is the famous one. :)

Here's the good news: mention Dawn on the DISBoards, and pretty much everyone assumes it's DawnCT ... mention Nick and Jessica, and pretty much everyone assumes it's Simpson and Lachey. By extension, Dawn, I think we can draw a beautifully unexpected parallel between you and Jessica Simpson. :)

Only on the DIS will you find some people trying to get a cheap shot in on a dog recovery thread.

Glad to hear your doggie is so much better Dawn! :goodvibes
