I would like some opinions on Chefs De France in EPCOT. I have never read much about this restaurant and was thinking about trying it during our upcoming trip. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

GO WHITE SOX!!!! :cool1:

Had two lovely meals there in the Summer. The servers were excellent both times. For a starter I had a tarte with cheese, bacon and onions and cream. It was absolutely delicious. For main meals I had duck the first time, and stuffed fish the second. Again lovely. I was too full for desert, which was a shame because they looked fantastic. Had some sort of wine, but I can't remember which.

Had two dinners there last month. Both were fantastic. I had never eaten there before and did so because of the "free dining" plan. Glad I did.

Loved the cheese selection plate.

DH and I absolutely love their french onion soup. It's a must do for every trip. They always have a good lunch special--I think it's french onion soup, croque monsiuer, and creme brulee. We have alway had good service there, too.

My Dh, twins and I really enjoy it. The atmosphere is really relaxing, the food is excellent and the service is very good.

We've dined there a number of times over the years and enjoyed it each and every time. I just made ressies there for our upcoming trip in January. The french onion soup is great, but we love their rolls. They are truly the best! ::MinnieMo

Thanks everyone for your comments. I am definitely sold. I am a big fan of good french onion soup!!!!!!

If you like highly Americanized French - it's ok. If you are looking for True Classical French cuisine, you will be extremely disappointed. I ate there once & it is one of the few WDW restaurants I can honestly say I will never go to again.

I totally disagree with this post. It's bistro fare, and pretty good bistro fare at that. I see the OP is from Illinois, if you are familiar with Chicago restaurants, I'd put it on par with Brasserie Jo or Mon Ami Gabi, but not as good as Bistro Campagne or some of the less "commercial" bistros. It isn't way out there immaginative, but you're not limited to French Onion Soup and Croque Monsieur, either. (Although both are good).

If, on the other hand, you're looking for haute cuisine, Chefs de France is not your place.

I like it for lunch.

have to agree with the post above me..we had a very good meal there a few years back..i had snapper that is no longer on the menu, too bad! one of the best meals i've ever had at wdw. if you want bifteck/frites they have it on the menu and you can feel like a real Parisian :)

DH HAS to eat here every trip. It is the only restaurant in all of WDW property (although Le Cellier is close) that he feels this way.

Don't ask about the cholesterol count, but he has to get the quiche and the french onion soup. We go at lunch time. Hard rolls are also served with this.

My DH LOVES my quiche............he brags about it all the time. But mine doesn't compare with Chefs de France. It is incredible.

Last time we kind of skipped breakfast and ate here for an early lunch. We practically had the restaurant to ourselves. Great, great memory...........my DH actually wanted us to eat here twice on our upcoming trip, but I told him once every trip is plenty(it's not cheap, even at lunch for our family of 5). :)

I make my judgement based on the fact that I am trained in Classical French Cuisine & am familiar with the proper preperation of several of the dishes they serve there. We ordered dishes that I love & am versed in & what we had was very toned down. It was "dumbed" down, assuming that the average vacationers palate would not accept it in it's true form. While all of the restaurants at Epcot are Americanized for that reason, I found Chefs to be the most disappointing of the lot.

ot but interestingly i was just reading about how even french food has changed so that might account for some changes depending on how long ago you took your class. anything in particualr on the menu you found to be "dumbed" down?

oot but my daughter was in paris last yr and disappointed as everyone constantly got steak and fries(the Parisians) and she wanted to try something different(but not brains, chittlins, ect, the really "traditional " food...she didn't want to try something that different)

A long time ago we asked in one of the restaurants at world showcase (don't remember which one), if the food was "americanized?" The answer we got was that "yes" it was changed to some extent from what you would get if you traveled to that country, but it was still pretty close. ::MinnieMo

Just ate there on 10/6. Best meal I have ever had at WDW. Had the cheese plate. I do know my french cheeses and the Roquefort mild and was extemely good. We had a party of 11 so I think we basically ordered everything on the menu. All Very good. I am not a expert at french food though. The average person on at the park would be very happy here. Even the kids in our party had fun here. We had 2 10 year olds and one 12 year old. I do eat out a lot so I know good service and good food. I think the restaraunts at World Showcase do a good job capturing the feel and food of the countries they represent.

I ate there on Thursday night (10-13). It was the only place in EPCOT that would except walk-ins. There were 5 of us. The frech soup is to die for. 4 of us ordered the filet. I thought the filet was extremely average. I would have been mad if I orderd it and I was not on the dining plan. The rear was medium, the medium was well and the medium well was just gross. The last girl in our party order the fish (I think it was sole) and she loved it. Our desserts were excellent. I would not eat here again but I am gald we tried it.
Our server was slow and we could not understand him. We asked him to please repeat himself once he got really nasty w/ us. I falso felt like it was too crowded where we were sitting. They sat 5 of us at a table for 4. I was in the end chair and they kept bumping into me so if you have more than 4 in your party, make sure you get a table that can accomodate you.

We had a nice lunch there last year. The "French Menu" fixed lunch is unpretentious but a good value, even more so if you have a discount! We are a family of four and spent almost exactly the same amount for lunch here as we did at Beaches & Cream. I would have no problem eating there again.

A restaurant that intends to remain in business needs to understand who it's customers are. When I hear a restaurant serves "authentic" food, it's simply a code word that says the food is probably not going to appeal to me. I can understand that some people who have acquired different tastes would want truly authentic meals, but these type restaurants are normally niche type places in larger cities that don't appeal to the mainstream and wouldn't be able to stay in business in smaller cities. The smart restaurant manager caters the menu to the customer, she doesn't expect the customer to spend time to become acclimated to the various authentic tastes on the menu.

Having said that, I ( and my uneducated American palate ) think Chefs De France is a fine place to dine!

We loved our meal here. We had an ADR for 5:30, but we went to the French Pavilion early to see the 5pm show of Impressions of France. It was wonderful to sit, listen to the beautiful music, and see the gorgeous movie about France. Then, walk right over to Chef to continue the French theme.
