Has anyone recently eaten dinner at Chef Mickey's? We are trying to decide on a character meal for our trip coming up in October, the menu on Disney's website sounds good. It seems as if they are trying to improve the food there.

i did not think that the food was that bad there. it is a buffet so you got plenty of choices of things to try there. i am going back there again in august just to bang out the character meeting of mickey and minnie so i don't have to worry about doing it in the parks

We hate Chef Mickey's with the firey passion of 10,000 infernos. I won't stay in the main tower at the Contemporary, just because I would have to see it, and listen to the constant din eminating from there all hours of the day. We really hate it that much.

We eat there about every second trip.

Last time was this past December for dinner.

You are going to get a bunch of people telling you how bad it is. I find it's really all in your expectations. Because of the price tag attached to it most people are expecting more from the food.

My unemotional review of CM is this:

You are paying for a character meal in a unique location located in the middle of a very unique resort, not for a meal prepared by the Queens personal chef.

The food is "ok". It's decent buffet food, nothing more, nothing less. There is lots of character interaction and photo ops. The desert bar is a lot of fun and the part I enjoy the most.

It is a good value for a single dining credit on the DDP. We've always been on the "Free Dining" plan when we've gone there. If I was paying out of pocket I would probably elect to eat somewhere else. It's not a must do for us, my wife likes the place.

That is my unbiased and unemotional review! :)

This will now be followed by a bunch of posts like the one above telling you how terrible the place is. :teeth:

I loooooooove CM!!! Haven't had dinner though, but would love to try it!!! It is our family's favorite!

Thank you, this is helpful.
We have eaten at many character meals on previous trips mostly breakfasts. We have even had breakfast at Chef Mickey's twice but never dinner. We won a trip to WDW from Food Network and one of the things they included was a character meal.

We aren't interested in eating in the castle really, our youngest child is 3 going on 4 in August and we thought he would enjoy a character meal with Mickey. So we were looking at Chef Mickey's or Tusker House. We ate breakfast at Tusker House in June of 2013, our most recent trip so we were looking into Chef Mickey's so we could change things up. We aren't really interested in eating at Garden Grill in Epcot, because there are so many great places to eat at Epcot and there will also be a lot great food at the Food and Wine Festival.

We were thinking it would be nice to enjoy a day at the Magic Kingdom, then when they close for the Halloween Party we could go over to the Contemporary for dinner. We have already done the Halloween Party twice, so we don't really want to do it again. We will have Park hoppers for this trip though.

We don't think the food is that bad there either...we have eaten dinner there twice recently and liked it both times. The characters are great too:) I will say though, if you decide to try garden grill you won't regret it! The food there last November was amazing! And the characters were a lot of fun too...you can't really go wrong with either with a young child.

We are trying dinner there this year and enjoyed breakfast there a few years ago. It's hit or miss for most people from how it sounds but we really loved it our first time. Tusker House is a favorite for food and experience in regards to character meals.

We've always enjoyed it, although on our last trip the service was slower than usual and there were a few plates in the pile at the buffet that weren't as clean as they should be. Nothing major, though, and the food was good.

It's equivalent to Golden Corral in terms of quality.
It consistently ranks as the 'worst' buffet option of the Disney character buffets, at all three meal times. Breakfast isn't terrible, but compared to the others, the service and food replenishment lacks, along with cleanliness (from when we've gone).

We've been for dinner and liked it. We didn't have high expectations, we just went because of the location and the characters. We actually enjoyed the food. We're going for breakfast on our next trip.

We've never had a bad meal there, but we find the food to be just ok. DH & I prefer to go other places but our 2DSs like to go so we've gone on our last 3 trips. We've done breakfast & dinner and love the characters, but if we ever found it dirty or the food to be not edible we wouldn't go at all. Fortunately, that hasn't been the case.
You should always try a restaurant for yourself to be sure as there will always be differing opinions.

We've always enjoyed it. The food is fine, some items are really good and some not. The nice thing about a buffet is that if you don't like something you can not eat it and get something else. We go strictly for the characters and entertainment. CM's is DS's favorite restaurant at WDW. I do enjoy the roast beef, parmesean mashed potatoes and salad bar. The desserts are pretty good as well. If you think that your family will enjoy the entertainment then go for it. If you are a foodie who is looking for a wonderful meal, then your money is better spent elsewhere. Foodwise, my favorite buffet with the classic characters is Tusker House.

Wow!

If I still had a 3 year old Chef Mickey's would be a "must do" for us, despite the mediocre-at-best food.

My youngest is now 7 (and a half,) and this trip we dropped Chef Mickey's to fit in Raglan Road. (my kids are Irish step dancers.)
